The beds which were extremely uncomfortable and the bathrooms could do with investment and upgrades

We liked the sheep, hens, cherry trees and rural atmosphere with an outstanding view over the city. The host was gracious and informative.

Lovely old building and rooms full of charm.

No one was there, no one told us there would be no food availability in the evening so we went to bed hungry. I couldn't wait to leave the next morning, a real uncomfortable experience.

What a unique place! We loved the warm welcome, the uniqueness of the place, the wine, the owner who spent so much time with us, the animals around and collecting the eggs we had the next day for breakfast! Thank you for a lovely stay! If you want to have dinner there make sure you let them know in advance.

if you go there in the ´winter times’ make sure you have warm pyjamas :-)

We were met by the owner who provided us with a wonderful history of the property and tour of the home and gardens. The home is a former noble manor and looks every inch of the elegance it must have one had. The bed was wonderful, linens superb, and the art and furnishings were sublime. The breakfast was filling and delicious. From start to finish, we could not believe how very lucky we were to have found Quinta de Mata.

Loved the property and place it situated which was outside of the city. You could not get better host than Luis - he is attentive and helpful in any way possible and beyond, he knows about the region, permaculture and wine. Surroundings of the Quinta are gorgeous and so are the furry friends. And breakfast was excellent, too. Everything went really smoothly.

Great location on a farm/mata. Louis was great host, showing us his farm and the area history. I loved the house and our large room. Great being a small 5min drive from Chaves.

The Quinta da Mata is,frankly,exceptional.From the welcome we received,when we first arrived, to the warmth of the lady who prepared our final breakfast-which was outstanding,both in quality and variety-the professionalism and friendliness of the members of this community is second to none.

We were disappointed not to have the opportunity to dine in the establishment,but we fully understood that it was not viable for a set meal to be prepared for just one couple.In any case, we were directed to an excellent restaurant,close to the Quinta da Mata.

Breakfast was delicious, abundant and perfect.

Amazing location. Beautiful gardens in the farm. Very interesting house with a story of its own. And just like everyone else here, we say thanks to our host who was happy to chat away for hours. The dinners should come with a warning tho as the portions were huge :)

Very enthusiastic host with knowledge of local wines. Lovely pool. Great views from the terrace. It was no trouble for them when we asked to eat outside.

Seeing Quinta da Mata in late Spring was a bonus after our recent visit in December 2020. It’s a great location for a day’s drive heading to Santander for the ferry back to the UK. Such beautiful gardens and the surrounding area and not far from the wonderful town of Chaves. The dogs loved it too!

Nothing to fault as Luís is such a great host.

The quinta building is beautiful, as well as areas around and the view. We have had a very warm welcome and we were very impressed by the hospitality. The owner is very nice, he shares the story of the place. And this place is fantastic, with an unique atmosphere and touch of care at every little thing. Breakfast is also wonderful. Highly recommended and we are looking forward to come back one day for a proper longer stay. Also to note, we are traveling with a baby and a cat, and they both were very welcome and enjoyed this place very much. Many thanks for this charming experience. Such an interesting accommodation from a historical perspective; fantastic views and fabulous inside, so rich in history. Luis was an excellent, excellent host and although we were the only ones there, we had a very tasty dinner. We could only stay a night which doesn’t do Quinta da Mata any justice, and perhaps winter doesn’t reveal the property in all its glory. We slept well after a long journey and the bedrooms are beautiful. Thank you Luis for looking after my sister and I so well.

Just a little in the cool side in the morning in the bedroom for me, but there was a portable heater which heated up the bathroom wonderfully to get dressed after showering.
