The house was exactly as promised. We found it in pristine condition upon our arrival. The check-in was simple even though we arrived late in the evening. The location was a plus as it was away from the crowds in Bar Harbor, yet within an easy drive to a variety of destinations. We were able to find some favorite hikes near Southwest Harbor as well as around the park loop. Great recommendations were left by the owners as to good hiking trails. We were able to walk to Southwest Harbor and enjoy some of their activities and restaurants. A whale watching trip and e-biking around the park loop were hits for our family in addition to hiking.

We had a great two week stay here at this super convenient house in Southwest Harbor. The house had all that we could need to make for a very comfortable base camp to enjoy all that we love to do in Acadia! The kitchen was very fully stocked, and that was great for us as we don’t go out too much. Wish we could enjoy the back deck more, but didn’t have the best weather. A really great spot for active families who are busy in the day and come home to rest.

Great quiet home to return to after day of hiking and exploring. Home had plenty of towels, dishes and staples. Also included great patio area with plenty of seating.

My family (me, husband and two adult daughters) thoroughly enjoyed our stay in May 2023 at Golden Cove Cottage. The cottage was beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed the privacy, the feeling of home, and the gorgeous outdoor space. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the warm spring sun. Though we were there in the off-season, Southwest Harbor and all of Mount Desert Island and Acadia did not disappoint. It was our second trip to Acadia and we hope to get back some day! Thank you to our hosts for sharing their lovely home.

Everything about this home was exactly what we had hoped it would be. It was neat, clean and nicely decorated. The living room is spacious and the bedrooms very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked including lobster pots that got lots of use! The owner even left blueberry jam and soda for us to enjoy. We also enjoyed the gas fire pit on the back deck! Great location with easy access to all of Acadia National Park. We have already suggested it to several friends! Many thanks!

Our stay at the cottage was just terrific. The cottage design and amenities were outstanding. It worked mostly well for us. It was clean and exceptionally well appointed. Communication with the rental company was easy and they were responsive. The back porch was a great spot to enjoy quiet reading time or an outdoor meal. The only drawback (for us) was location on a main road. We like to walk the dog every morning and the location of the cottage on a busy main road without sidewalks made this not ideal. It’s a bit of a hike to “downtown” SWH and cars travel at pretty high speed in front of the cottage.

Perfect fit for our family. Hoping to stay at this property for many years to come!

This home was just lovely. It had everything we needed, including coffee to brew and a gift of blueberry jam and blueberry soda. It was in close proximity to numerous trails and mountains and my niece, who we went up there to visit. The home was clean, welcoming and just perfect for a family of 4 with a dog. Thank you for a lovely experience and long weekend getaway.

We enjoyed our stay in Southwest Harbor. The home was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. The location on the island's quiet side was outside the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, but quaint and convenient.

We were thrilled with Golden Cove Cottage. We greatly appreciated being able to travel with our little dog. It was exceptionally clean, very thoughtfully decorated, and well equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. The gas fireplace kept the family room cozy and warm on the cold days and an air conditioner and ceiling fans were a welcome relief during the heatwave! The recliner sofas in the family room were extremely comfortable. The deck is large with great chairs, benches, a fire pit and gas grill. The bedrooms were a good size and equipped with blackout blinds. The queen bed was comfy, but the master bedroom king mattress was too stiff and hard for us. Southwest Harbor has a local grocery store, great restaurants and yummy lobster pounds.The cottage is in a great location to explore, hike, and picnic (Charlotte Rhoades Butterfly Park was a wonderful picnic spot down the road). The house is noisy during the week as it is located on a busy road with commercial traffic. There were quite a few trucks rumbling past early in the morning. However, the house has so many positive features, we would not hesitate to rent here again.

Clean, spacious, updated, dog friendly home on the quieter side of MDI. We are looking forward to many return visits!

This was a great house for a small family gathering; very comfortable for 5 adults. It was clean, attractively furnished, comfortable beds, great living room and deck for hanging out and visiting. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook nice dinners; pots, baking pans, blender, utensils. We also made use of the gas grill. It's on a busy road, about half a mile out of the center of Southwest Harbor, but the house was very quiet. We walked to town almost every day. I highly recommend it.

Have stayed in Ellsworth on a previous trip to Acadia, I really appreciated being so close to the park, with some trailheads being 5 minutes away. We were able to see and do so much! The check in and check out processes were smooth - the Knowles Company was so professional and easy to work with, and it is clear the homeowner put a lot of care and attention into their home. The beds were comfy and kitchen well equipped. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and already looking forward to my next trip to MDI!

Golden Cove Cottage is a lovely home. Pros: Clean, nicely decorated, equipped with everything we needed (except bath soap). Keyless entry was easy and convenient. Loved the welcome gift of blueberry soda and jam, and dog treats. The area information was helpful; especially the book on hikes to take with your dog. The gas fireplace was wonderful and the firepit on the deck was nice as well. It was so great to have a washer and dryer, a nice foyer where we could hang our jackets and leave our shoes. The recliner sofas were wicked comfortable and great for movie night. Cons: it is located on a busy road. Many dump trucks and regular traffic going by all day. It was not a good road for walking, which is too bad, because you are close enough to walk to downtown Southwest Harbor. It was too noisy to sit on the front porch and even affected the enjoyment of the back deck. It would be great if there was a gate for the deck to make it safer for a dog or small child. The yard is very small; so not much area to give a dog a break. We had to drive to a trail. Many of the windows did not have shades; the ones that did have shades were insufficient. The light from a nearby street light shone in all night, and the sun came in very early. Some blackout shades would be helpful or just an additional curtain.

We loved our stay, everything was nice, recommended to others looking for a place near Acadia.

Beautiful home that provided everything we needed, clean, comfortable beds, all kitchen supplies, a warm fireplace, and even a small gas fire pit outside on the deck. It was wonderful to come back to this calming space after busy days out in Acadia, Bar Harbor, and the surrounding towns. Would stay there again!
