I love the cabin! It was perfect for the both of us. We got to the motel after a nerve-wrecking 5 hour drive, mostly in the dark. As we pulled into the property, the receptionist just locked up the office. She greeted us, regardless of the time, and helped us to check-in. She was so lovely. She even left the lights of our cabin on for us so we could easily identify it. The cabin was so spacious for the 2 of us. We love the little orange tree outside the cabin and the parking space next to our cabin. I absolutely would recommend booking this place.

I enjoyed the location of this motel. It's across the road from Gibbos which is well known for its fish and chips. It's down the quieter part of town where you can hear the tuis sing and enjoy the ambience of the cliffs behind. Its so picturesque. The amenities could be a bit more modern. The staff are super friendly. The price per night is great. It was a nice quiet place to rejuvenate.

Centrally located close to beach and CBD. However, bed wasn't great as it sags in the middle, also there was an irritating ticking sound the whole night which kept us awake. However, would recommend the facility as it's neat & tidy and value for money.

Awa is always an excellent place to stay, especially if you’re in the spa bath room. SKY TV, aircon, etc - excellent! My only gripe is that there isn’t a power switch on the right side of the bed so I can use my phone while charging it, headphones, charger and hubby’s phone (his side has C-PAP). There are heaps of switches on the bench but too far away for my cords to reach.

Clean and tidy with friendly and helpful staff

The AWA is a lovely motel in a quiet area, close to the river and the city center. The room was large and well equipped. The bed was a little too soft for my taste, but I prefer firm matrasses !

Fantastic staff, very helpful. The room was very spacious and well set up. We had breakfast from the Awa cafe' which was superb and took in the wonderful view.

I've traveled extensively throughout New Zealand, staying in numerous accommodations. Awa exceeded my expectations; it was even better than I imagined! The cabin I stayed in was pristine, with a fresh, clean scent and gleaming metal surfaces. It was impeccably maintained, like brand new. Every corner, including the shower and toilet, was spotless. The cabin was well-equipped with essentials like utensils, dish soap, TV, air-conditioning, and toiletries. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the complimentary coffee and snacks were delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall excellent experience. I highly recommend Awa—it's more than just a 5-star motel, especially with its stunning ocean views. Thanks for a memorable stay!

We had The Bungalow, which I found needs quite a bit of modernising and updating. Carpets very marked, lounge suite broken and uncomfortable.

Kaimahi were very obliging and sent messages to access keys and to register for our stay. Clean convenient and yes, we will certainly be back to stay on another occasion.

We like it

We stayed 2 nights in the motel and it was one of the best we have stayed in. Out of all the hotels we stayed in in New Zealand, this was one of the cheapest but what we got for our money was outstanding. A very large comfy bed,a kitchen, air conditioning and large television and a very large bathroom. We also had free use of the launderette including free detergent. Could not fault it and would recommend it to anyone staying in Whakatane.
