The estate is immaculate, the location is perfect, and the host is wonderful. We all had a fantastic time.

Stunning views of the lake. Spacious grand living room, perfect for entertaining. State of the art large kitchen for preparation and enjoyment. Two comfortable bedrooms with a jack and Jill bathroom. And an amazing host - Chuck took care of every need and concern, he helped me coordinate which took less stress off of me.

We had such a fun time! The house was gorgeous and the host was perfect. He was super inviting but also gave us plenty of space to do our own thing the whole weekend. We will definitely be going back.

The owner of the property, Chuck, is a wonderful and gracious host. He gave us a full tour and described the very cool history of Wiseacre. He accepted our two med-large dogs who loved to run across the vast yard and tested out the lake. We immediately felt right at home and enjoyed the use of the house. Chuck is super relaxed and generous with the use of his home. And those views - wow! We highly recommend staying at Wiseacre!

Chuck was a great host! He welcomed us with open arms into his beautiful home. On site you have everything you need, space, hot tub, privacy, lake views, nature, and close proximity to just about anything. The location is very centrally located to Norfolk, VA Beach, Cape Charles, and Hampton. Wiseacres provided us with the most comfortable place to site see, relax on the lake or take a 5 min drive to low key peaceful beaches. I recommend this place to anyone and I hope to return again someday. Thanks for everything Chuck!

Wonderful

My family of 6 adults and two children was in town to visit my mother in law. This was one of the most unique and interesting VRBOs we have ever stayed in. The host who resides in the property with his dog Charlotte has restored the home to its 1960’s heyday with modern upgrades of the kitchen and bathrooms. It is a museum of 1960’s pop culture and an eclectic collection of art with an emphasis on giraffes.while we ate take out, the kitchen has high end appliances and is well equipped for cooking. The dining room table easily seats 8 and is beautiful. The term Great room doesn’t do justice to the expansive living space anchored by a S shaped red leather couch surrounded by other mid century modern chairs and chaises. There is a cozy speak easy type bar areas and a screened in porch with hot tub. The two bedrooms are small but adequate with comfortable beds and shared full bath which has obviously been updated. The host was like a museum curator who passionately talked about the house and decor and then vanished to his rooms to allow us to enjoy the museum after hours. imagine the parties that occurred here. The home, situated on a large lakefront lot has views that are awe inspiring including watching the planes take off and land at the Norfolk airport. Don’t let the fact that this is a 2 BR with 1 and 1/2 baths deter you from renting this house for up to 12. There are lots of options for sleeping in the great room. We are still talking about it.

You read that correctly. Chuck opened his amazing home so we could host a Murder Mystery Dinner party and it was amazing. From personal greetings to a full house tour in advance so no detail would be missed. Cocktails, Dinner and a murder! Then a relaxing by the campfire. We did not stay overnight but were so happy to enjoy this wonderful home for time we were there.

We had a great time at the property. Chuck was an amazing host and gave terrific recommendations for the area (including a traffic free way to get to Virginia Beach). He was accommodating and a pleasant host.

Looking for a place to host an important event is inherently stressful and time consuming. UNTIL you find Chuck Taylor’s home at Wiseacre and just simply, reach out. Not only was Chuck responsive, welcoming and dialed in as a host, his home is such an amazing experience for any gathering. I can’t thank him enough for his hospitality and generosity. If you need a spot in Hampton Roads, quit searching just let him know. I’m trying to figure out a reason to host any other event because it was freaking phenomenal. Chuck and Jeff are the best hosts out here, hands down. They helped me arrange a wedding in 3 days when my original venue didn't come through and it turned out excellent.

Our stay at Wiseacre was a step back in time. The house is incredible and it feels like you have been given a pass to live in Chuck’s personal museum.

A truly beautiful architectural gem with an astounding view of Lake Whitehurst, geese, towering trees, and planes landing and taking off from the Norfolk International Airport. This is a perfect place to entertain, and my family were as delighted with its charm as I! Key to its novelty are the whimsical and clever interior design and decor. The owner, Chuck, lives in the house with his dog, and is helpful and interesting, without being obtrusive. While you are not alone in the house and do interact at times, the level of privacy was comfortable for us. We highly recommend this rental for those willing to follow the house rules:-) A restorative and peaceful -and very interesting - way to welcome in the New Year!

First off I would just like to thank Chuck for having us stay at him home! Although we were only there for a few days, the time we spent was perfect! Chuck greeted us as we arrived, gave us a little tour of the home, and was sure to let us know that he would be there for anything we needed. The home was just as described, so peaceful and relaxing out in the back by the water. The location was ideal... close to the beach, downtown, the zoo and the aquarium (which was great for our two little ones). One thing to mention, I believe Chuck has not yet updated the pictures of the kitchen on the site... the kitchen has been renovated and is not only beautiful, but stocked with everything needed! Chuck even left out mugs and had coffee brewed and waiting for us before we woke up every morning. I would definitely recommend this property to others and would love to stay again when we are out that way!

Owner Chuck was a great host! Very friendly and accommodating. My twin teenage girls and I enjoyed the private setting and was only miles from the beach. For a change our vacation was relaxing and not hectic.

My husband, two children (ages 3 & 5), and I really enjoyed our stay at Wiseacre. The first day we stayed at the house and took our stand up paddle boards out on the water. There really isnt a good place to swim at Wiseacre unless you bring an SUP like we did. The lake was wonderful and quiet, and there were plenty of places to explore for any paddle craft. That evening, we went and explored downtown Norfolk and ended up at the best mall ever. It had a big play area for kids and a movie theater on the third floor. We loved having the airport right there- it was so fun to see the planes come and go, and we didnt mind the noise at all. The big Virginia Beach was an easy 30 minute drive, and the smaller beach at the bay was an easy 10 minute drive. Parked across the street in a garage at VA Beach, and easy parking right up to the beach at the bay. We enjoyed both beaches very much; I liked the bay better because it was practically empty and the waves were smaller for my kiddos. On our final evening, we went and had the best seafood ever at Bubbas, and then froyo at Tinis. Thank you thank you for a memorable visit. The listing description is completely accurate. The property is old, some parts are showing some wear, but it was clean overall. Chuck was a fantastic host and provided clear communication. We would absolutely recommend Wiseacre to others.
