First class service and attention to detail. Although the decor is a bit dated it was clean and comfortable. Great location.

The staff were attentive and helpful and made the visit an enjoyable experience.

The hotel is well situated just off the high street, we managed to park on site, which was a bonus. The hotel was clean but fixtures and furnishings was very out dated and worn. The reception staff were nice and pleasant but we didn’t eat or drink in restaurant so cannot comment on that. The room was very spacious with lovely view of the cathedral but as mentioned before room needs a make over!

Nice hotel... lovely city.. The only complaint I could have was that the television in my room wasn't up to scratch... neither was the remote control!!

The hotel overall is really dated. The TV in my first room didn't work and so I had to walk all the back to reception just to move 2 doors away. In the new room the hot water tap in the bathroom wasn't fixed to anything so when you tried to turn it on, it just twisted and twisted. The room was very hot with no air con, and so I had to get a fan to try and cool things down. There was a shower over a bath, which makes no sense unless your one of the weird ones who like taking baths in hotels. Think I'd rather stay in the travelodge next door.

Location is very central, hotel lobby is fine, room was nice and tidy but a little tired, bathroom needs updating however it did have a de-misting mirror. No air-con but it did have a good fan and the windows can be opened as well which I prefer anyway. Door lock for our room happened to be dodgy and needed fixing (didn’t unlock and yes it was our room), the night time staff (a lovely gentleman at the reception) was super helpful. The view outside the window was on the street side this time and some building work was happening opposite the hotel. The bed was comfortable so we had a good night sleep despite someone singing their heart out and some loud bin noises happened briefly which both are uncontrollable circumstances by the hotel. Overall I would stay there again if I found a cheaper rate for street side room or if it was facing the cathedral side.

We booked for location to meet up with friends. We have stayed before but over the last 30 years nothing seems to have been upgraded. Furniture was very dated and bed not very comfortable. We even got upgraded to an executive room but with the mass of trees outside the room was dark and no view. Having said that we were only there for 1 night and it suited our purpose. The receptionist was very cheerful and made us feel welcome. The Wessex could do with a total upgrade in my opinion though!

Enjoyable stay.

Overnight stay on way to Southampton. Good location friendly helpful staff. Old but lovely hotel. Didn't use bar ir other amenities at the hotel. Parking was challenging!

Lovely hotel could do with another cleaning rota

It was clean, however, it is an old building so all the taps, plugs etc are d. Very old fashioned but comfy. Terrible access to car park. Breakfast was 6 out of 10

Very easy access to heart of Winchester shops and attractions and river

I got an economy room without air conditioning. Lucked out because the nights were comfortable. Like a lot of European hotels, the shower/tub combo is a steep climb to get in and out .

Reception very welcomed, bed and pillow very good, noisy hot room, bin men, builders, buskers for the morning wake up call, breakfast sharing with the staff not a complaint but never done this before but it would be nice if the supervisor took their argument with a member of staff outside the breakfast area, poor coffee tea, it was the water taste, overheated food.

A lovely 2 night stay at the Wessex Hotel. All staff were friendly and helpful. Beautiful room overlooking the cathedral.

Good location, parking bit of a pain bathrooms need deep clean and updating

Pleasantly large room with 4 poster bed very comfortable and clean, little mention of bathroom.door not quite shutting properly and limited selection of teas, one person overniht needs more than 2 tea bags hoeever reception gave plenty more plus biscuits shen were slodo misding from the room. Lovely view of the cathedral. Shout out to the ladies on reception they were fantastic 🌟

Very stuffy airless room. Black slime in fridge. Terrible bathroom. Horrible mattress. A very poor staff interaction when someone walked into my room without knocking, telling me I should have been "Out by 12" (not true btw) I've seen this hotel described as "Tired" there are large areas where carpet is held together with gaffer tape. "Tired" is generous. Great view.

Location good. Car park limited and v cramped

Advertised as having air conditioning. Maybe it did but with most of European and English hotels it was not working and the day was hot. So open a window. FALSE ADVERTISING.

Service was excellent and great breakfast choice. Hotel needs a little bit of modernisation but it is a perfect location to see the city and the staff and service totally make up for that.

To start we were not put in the type of room we had booked. It was dirty. Reception said they’d see if anyone was available today to resolve the situation (we were only booked in for one night!). Housekeeping were helpful and understanding about getting us moved to another room. Here the issues were lesser - a single duvet in double cover, curly black hairs in the bath, chipped and cracked bathroom floor and sink. On the upside although we didn’t notice straight away at least one of the 3 lights was working in the bedroom so we didn’t have to speak to anyone again after we returned to the room following dinner. All in all very run down and I wouldn’t stay here again. The only positive was the housekeeping manager - kindest thanks Len for helping make it less bad.

Beautiful hotel in a lovely area - on-site parking is expensive but you can use the public car park opposite at a fraction of the price. Definitely upgrade for a bigger room with a view of the hotel Only criticism is that the room was ridiculously hot all night and we didn’t seem to be able to cool it down - didn’t complain as we were only there one night

Perfect location. Lovely room. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Managed to get parked in the car park -great price and so convenient. We had a lovely stay thank you.

Hotel is a little tired but location is second to none. Bed and pillows were also very comfortable so decor didn't really matter.

Overall this is a good hotel, the location is so convenient to go around Winchester and the staff were lovely. The room itself was nice, comfortable bed and a good size but the bathroom was dated and the shower screen was very dirty around the edges. If they replaced the shower screen it would go a long way to the feel of the room.

Ordered a breakfast for the room amd it arrived very cold was very expensive also in my opinion

In need of an update, especially to upgrade to A/C.

The hotel was sitiated right in the middle of town a d rhe view was of the cathedral so couldnt have been better. Staff were lovely, very helpful. Thee was no toet roll in the bathroom when we arrivef but this was immediately addressed once mentioned. The room seemed rather tired and dated, and the bathroom door would not close fully but it was clean and adequate for us.
