Great little hotel, nestled by the river in Barnstaple. Staff were fab and couldn’t do enough for you. Had a very homely feel and was very cosy. Food awesome! Rooms clean and tidy but no air con so had to have the window open then was woken by bin men at 7am. Certainly not the hotels fault! Overall, very much looking forward to staying there again…

Nice hotel but needs to take a serious look into sound proofing. The guy in the room next to me was on the phone and I could hear his conversation word for word. He may aswell made the call in my room.

The hotel is quite nice and its restaurant was very nice. The only downside to our stay was that there is no air conditioning in this hotel.

It is very pleasant hotel with excellent staff.
The dining room and room service fee are very expensive.
There seems to be no recycling effort made in the hotel.

I particularly liked the variety of lounges of different sizes with good views as overlooking the river.
The location was especially convenient for river walks and public transport yet at the same time quiet.

Hotel is a traditional hotel with excellent staff (definitely a great asset). Our second stay here and rooms and bathrooms have recently been refurbished. The restaurants are good, breakfast excellent. Car parking avaiable (if you have a disabled badge let reception know and rhey will reserve you a space in the car park). If there is a slight downside to the hotel it would be that the corridors upstairs are a little narrow (the building is older) but there is a lift and we had an accessible room which was excellent.

Great venue and staff, but my stay was marred by their dress code for dining. I'm not going to let a hotel tell me what to wear when I'm relaxing. I had to eat out. Dress code made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I understand why it's there, but I think in this day and age it just seems old-fashioned, snobby, condescending, and actually quite insulting.

Very friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. Room and all facilities were lovely and. Clean. Breakfast was well worth the extra and great value too.

The building looked great inside and out. The staff were all very nice made you feel welcome. One night I came back at 1am and was still greeted by a smile which you don't get everywhere. The restaurant attached to the hotel looked great. The rooms are all well done out and feel cosy. Would definitely stay again.

A nice old fashioned hotel in the centre of Barnstable. Short walk to Parkrun, and close to shops. Decided £20 each for breakfast was too much for us, so went into town.

Property was very good except for a lot of squeaky floor boards which is too be expected in an old building.
Food was excellent,plenty of choice of the menu.
Staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble for them.
I would highly recommend this hotel you won’t be disappointed.
Highlight for me was the excellent food compliments too the chef.

Nice historic building with modern well well-equipped rooms. Lounge bar food was very expensive and small in quantity, Restaurant breakfast was fantastic.

I stayed here probably 30 years ago and it was a favourite when visiting the area. Lovely to see it has retained its charm and atmosphere. Old world hotel with modern updates. Lovely.

Very noisy with the window open due to the badly fitting sash windows which rattled in the frane, I had to shut them which wasn’t desirable.
