Food was not that great.

We had a wonderful stay at the Riu Playacar and look forward to returning soon. The room was clean, comfortable, and had perfect air conditioning to retreat to from the heat outside. House keeping was on top of everything and always provided fresh towels and bed turn down. Breakfast and lunch buffets were our favourite and so delicious. There are good options around the resort for food and drinks. Enjoyed our trip and wish we could have stayed longer!

The staff wouldn’t even acknowledge us in the restaurants. We would ask for a high chair for our little one & they would take forever to bring it

We enjoyed many aspects of Riu Playacar. The hotel was very nice, the staff was exceptional, the entertainment both during the day and in the evening was great. We really appreciated the relatively short walk (30 min) to Playa del Carmen and the variety of food offered. Our only points of disappointment was the very low alcohol content of the drinks and the quality of the food was not consistent. In particular, the Steakhouse meal was very disappointing - the meat was very overcooked and not to our specifications. Also, when one arrived at a buffet between 7-8 pm, the food had sat under heat lamps and became very dried out. Overall, we would recommend Riu Playacar to friends but with the caveat about arriving early for food and ordering a shot to go along with a cocktail.

What was unique about this property was the fact that it was in Mexico

My experience was not what I was expecting. The rooms weren’t as nice as what the pictures show on the site. The balcony door knob was broken, the bathroom walls were really dirty, scratched. There was no privacy from the room to the bathroom just a door to the toilet. But most of all the reason we left the resort was because there was too many ants on the floor and in the bed. Unfortunately I booked this reservation without a refund. So I lost money. We ended up going to a different resort.

The best thing of this hotel is the Beach!! Playacar is the most beautiful beaches in Riviera Maya and Jesus for the entertainment team!! Jesus you're amazing!! The Júnior Suite is really good and confortable... the drinks are really good!! And the food is okay!! For our next vacation we'll try Riu Palace!! To see is the food is better! But I recommend this hotel!!

I've been many times in PDC Resorts, This one in particular is not the best.
Place is super clean though, friendly staff. Great food.
Even though they state it's good for Families, they don't offer the usual variety of entertaining activities for kids other Resorts offer.

It was a stay from hell. Staff was rude, food was terrible, 40 of the 70 people we went with ended up with food poisoning suffered from vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps. I was sick the entire time there.

Cons-
My room was not ready until 4:30. I had booked 4 rooms for my family. All of the rooms were ready except for mine. We had to dig through our luggage in our son’s room to find our bathing suits to put on so that we could go to the pool.
There were no bellhops so we had to bring our own luggage to our room and carry it up the stairs to the second floor.
Pros-
We liked that we were always able to get a table to accommodate the 13 of us without waiting.
We enjoyed all of the food except the Asian food.
The rooms were nice ands clean.
The resort was kid friendly.

The staff works so hard to make sure you have a good time. Rained most of the week, but the entertainment team does such a great job keeping you busy! Our 2nd time there and it’s always beautiful.

We appreciated the more quiet nature of this property compared other one we have visited in playa del Carmen in the past. The property was very well maintained, staff was excellent. I highly recommend this resort, especially for families with kids

We always stay at RIU, this was the second time at this location. Friendly staff. Very clean and fun.

The food was not great and the rooms were okay at best. Our bathroom had mold in the shower and the sheets were stained even new sheets put on the bed. The staff recycled water from drank out of glasses in front of you. I wouldn’t recommend this riu to anyone or return. Staff was friendly which was nice but we did not enjoy the resort.

The Entertainment staff and wait staff were outstanding.
The rest of the property average. No room service no special additional perks wet towels on arrival champagne on arrival, evening appetizers and special cocktails, specials of the day, the salon offered half crown head breads and then cancelled on me, no special dinners.
Rooms had no travel body care samples.
