The host and house manager made fabulous food for tenants. The beef stew was delicious. Many stores are nearby so you can use Walgreens and Safeway within walking distance of the house.

They were expecting a cleaner to come, so I'd appreciate the timely cleaning to be done next time.

Location was fantastic, and the host was nice and laid-back. I liked the idea of a hostel that could host entrepreneurs and provide for a place to network or get feedback for ideas. The backyard was spacious and beautiful; a great place for activities or just some quiet time alone.

There are no locks used for entering or leaving the house, which surprised me since California has many issues with crime (although Palo Alto was safe when I traveled around, so maybe the locals are not as concerned with locks). Also there were areas that were not so clean (espcially corners in the bathroom) and not enough toilet paper at times in some of the bathrooms. Lastly, there was a misunderstanding with my stay during my last night and my bed was given to another guest, however the host quickly made a new bed for me and it wasn't a big problem.

Relaxed community, meeting point of diverse backgrounds, laundry facilities, well-equipped kitchen, quiet area close to downtown and the Stanford Uni.

I missed a blender.

Amazing house with an amazing community of people. I was a solo traveler and I met many like-minded ambitious people. I would rather stay here than any hotel just for the networking and setup. Large backyard with plenty of places to sit down and work, comfortable beds, and everything you need to accomplish your goals.

Based on the information available on the website of Startup House hostel, it might appear that the establishment is a vibrant special place for both entrepreneurs and start up founders searching for the Silicon Valley funds in Palo Alto. Website says that "Startup House is a community and co-living for entrepreneurs and their teams"...so untrue. The truth is that this is a regular house with a bunch of Russian guys co-living together most of whom do not speak English (???) Unmade beds, unclean bathrooms and what to mention about no cleaning or housekeeping services being provided. Moreover, the hostel's has no official staff or management, leaving guests with zero level of professionalism in the check in. First day I arrived no one was waiting for me. I felt as invading someone (Russian) house. My Booking printed reservation seemed useless. No staff at all. Thanks God a host volunteered to make some calls to find out about my reservation (spasiva Roman!) Is like they do not care about the hospitality business at all. I booked a single room many weeks before my trip. I received an email one week prior to my trip saying single room was not available. I was offered a double with no further explanations beyond a "we've had technical problems". Once I arrived no double room was available and I ended up sharing a quadruple with 3 more people (surprise!). Quite professional isn't it? Of course price was exactly the same with no discount for sleeping with 3 more guys with no further explanation. Forget about the famous and prestigious American customer service. This is Russia my dear tovarisch. In conclusion, based on the information available in the website and whatever the official website might say, I can ensure that this hostel falls far short of its promises. If potential travelers to Palo Alto are looking for a clean, well-managed hostel with professional staff, they may wish to look elsewhere...
