We kwamen hier aan met zeer veel verwachtingen (na het lezen van de reviews), maar waren een beetje teleurgesteld. Positief: mooi zicht, tussen jungle en strand, prachtige omgeving. Hostel is mooi van uitzicht. Hangmatten. Omgeving. Gezellige sfeer, uiteraard afhankelijk van de gasten.

Personeel is ongeïnteresseerd (of komt in elk geval zo over) en geeft geen of beperkte info over tours (ook na dit te vragen, zeer beperkte onduidelijke info), het lijkt alsof het teveel moeite is gevraagd hierop te antwoorden. Keuken vol etensresten, ijskast is walgelijk (vis en vol open borden met eten), gasten hebben dit zelf uiteindelijk opgeruimd. Ze rekenen 10% extra als je met kaart betaalt (zou al minder een probleem zijn als al bovenstaande wel in orde was). Het is echt de combinatie van dit alles dat het verblijf een beetje tegen deed vallen. Veel potentieel, maar lijkt alsof personeel alles wat laat hangen. Er is weinig tot niets in de buurt voor te eten of drinken, daarom erg jammer dat de keuken zo ranzig is, nodigt niet uit om te koken. Basic is zeker oké, maar toch belangrijk dat het gewoon proper is.

I really had a wonderful time at the pelican house hostel. The staff (owners and volunteers) are amazing! They help you with everything, organize tours and transport and are always up for a lovely conversation. The atmosphere at the hostel is super laid-back and familiar. The hostel has a kitchen and fridge for cooking meals and enough spaces to hang out. Despite the humidity, the sheets and pillows are dry and smell fresh. There is daily housekeeping to keep everything clean. The location is absolutely amazing (just look at the pictures). It really is a small paradise and I think my Chocó experience may have been the best during my 8 months of traveling.

The only small remarks I have would be that my mattress was a bit old and worn through, so little uncomfortable. It might be time to change them. There are only a few toilets for quite a lot of people, although overall they were clean enough and this of course depends on the guests. The fridge was a bit dirty, but that is also mostly due to the guests.

Very helpful staff, they help you from the minute you enter with any information you need/ help with organising tours etc. really nice vibes.

Great location straight on the beach. Nice filling breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs, sweet potato pancakes and corn bread. Very friendly and welcoming staff. They are always cleaning, which is necessary given the location. Great tour options (whales, baby turtle release, frog walk) and they try their best to communicate with the agencies and get you into a tour, which is great since the whale tours are often cancelled last minute.

Unbearably hot at night. Even though they are open, there is no air circulation in the dorms, as there is very little wind, so they are stuffy and stinky. Lots of sweaty human bodies and clothes trapped in an airless room. Also it caused me to get a lung infection later because all the air and allergens stagnated in the room. A single fan to aerate and cool the rooms would go a long way. People are smoking inside, right next to the kitchen area, which is unhygienic, and next to reception. There's plenty of outdoor space so I don't understand why there can't be a seperate smoking area. Kitchen equipment is pretty old. Fridge was full of uncovered fish and meat so it was really unhygienic.

Very lovely place in the middle of nowhere in El Valle. Restaurants close by and 20 min from El Valle centre. Very safe little town. We had the private room with seaview and it was fantastic. Owner is also very friendly and helpful and we did some very cool tours!

The location is super close to the beach (just like all the hostels in el Valle).

It felt like almost all the employees and guests already stayed here for a long time and they passively excluded the other guests from their group. The dorms were super small and didn’t have fans. And to go to the bathrooms and toilets you have to get 1 or 2 floors down. They do not have lunch or dinner and the nearest supermarket is a 25 min walk, the hostel never mentioned this. Bar closes super early. Furthermore, everybody bitches about Utria hostel while that place is sooooo much better

Best place to stay in El Valle! I really loved the vibe of Daniela and Emanuel, they are always happy to help and they really care for your well-beeing and safety. It's a beautiful wooden house, with a well equiped kitchen and a lot of nice chill areas with hammocks etc. One of the best places in Colombia for me. Thanks a lot <3
