I received 11 emails prior to checking in which listed rules and things not to do. Prior to checking in, we spent another half hour on the phone where we were told what not to do while staying at the property.
The host was very unwelcoming and we will not stay here again.

Great location at a quiet resort. Lots of privacy. Chalet was well equipped.

We had a lovely week stay in a beautiful cabin in the woods. Unfortunately, we made an error when we read "on Dogtooth Lake" and assumed private access/dock from the cabin and better views of the lake. The cabin itself was beautiful and immaculate but the communal dock area was often busy and a difficult walk, for us, carrying the kayaks.
Owners have obviously had issues with previous renters based on the pages of rules and regulations sent which actually made us a bit uncomfortable in it's wording. We could tell by the wording and repetitive nature, that previous renters causes problems for neighbors and the cabin itself. This paranoia in their communication made us unable to fully relax on our vacation. In such a small community and watched area, with so many stipulations, I might not be inclined to list my property as a rental. With that said, Helana and Mike were very lovely people and own a very beautiful cabin.

We are completely happy with our stay. We would not hesitate to book again for next year.
Mike and Helena are very kind and excellent to work with.

Our kids loved the location of this property. We'd picked it because of it's proximity to Rushing River (we wanted to cabin not camp) and had planned to go there every day. We did visit the park multiple times and do a hike, but what the kids loved even more was being able to walk down the road (a 2 min walk, if that) to the private little beach and playground that are part of the resort that the cabin is within. You really get the best of both worlds with the cabin as you can access the resort's amenities (our kids were too little to do the waterslide but it looked fun) but also have a little oasis up in the trees at the very end of the road, with views of the lake from two sides. Beautiful cabin and we didn't want to leave!

Had all the amenities; was a beautiful place to stay with lovely surroundings, the hosts were accommodating and accessible.

The stay was overall great, however on the last day when we were getting ready to be out by noon the property owner had come and opened the whole house while we were at breakfast and moved in and out of the space somewhat agressively while we were packing and loading the car. I had planned on rinsing off quickly but the home owner came in on me while I was changing so I decided to make the 8 hour drive without the shower. Space was a yes! Owner was a big NO

I've been with my family at the cabin for a few nights. The cabin is great and has all the nice features.
The hosts are not so great. We've been told to bring our own toilet paper, liquid dish soap, and paper towels. Also, we had to take out the garbage bags and put the dishes back in their original place. For the amount I paid per night (around $700) I would expect to have toilet paper provided by the host.
They have a lot of rules for their stay and I had to undergo some "screening" before being allowed to book (should have an opt-out at that stage). It felt like I am in the army and have to follow rules for everything instead of a nice family vacation.
And for bringing a family of friends to stay with us for 4 hours for a barbeque I've been charged an additional $100 (I've been told that this is due to the additional costs of water and toilet flushing). All of this made our stay stressful instead of relaxing.
If you are looking for an army-like experience when you're ordered to do stuff, this is your place. If you want a relaxing experience, search for something else.

Was a great stay at the cabin that was very clean and spacious for the 7 of us. We enjoyed our time and would stay again!

We enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was clean and beautifully decorated, and the kitchen, complete with a huge island, had everything we needed. The huge decks and multiple sitting areas were a welcome feature. Our 11-year grandson had an awesome time in the water and spent many hours there. Overall, a great vacation.

The property is well equipped and very close to the water with beautiful views from the deck. The beach is great for kids and a short drive to Kenora for restaurants

Pros:
- Great location, just a kilometre from the gorgeous Rushing River park. A sandy beach on-site is awesome for young kids. Easy drive into Kenora for supplies.
- Well-appointed cottage – the kitchen has everything you need. The kayaks are fun, the deck has tons of space to relax and hang out, plus the fire pit is a good evening perk.
- Friendly neighbours – they treated our kids great and were cool to chat with. To view the lake, you sorta need to walk onto their property. They didn’t seem to mind when we did so for pictures.
Cons:
- Unwelcoming host – Helena seems very distrustful. Both she and the very nearby (but friendly) cottage neighbours separately confirmed that they have a tense relationship because the cottage is mostly used as a rental. We felt caught in the middle of their spat. And when we had a simple misunderstanding with Helena about overnight visitors (still below the cottage’s occupancy), she scolded us as untransparent, sent extra fees and threatened to evict our family. We were after a stress-free week away, and the ordeal was bizarrely filled with friction.
- Air conditioning – We booked thinking there’d be air-conditioned rooms for our young kids, because the cottage is advertised as air conditioned. But there’s only one window unit in the living room. The bedrooms became hot on July nights.
We've had many kind hosts over the years. It sucked to be treated as a necessary evil to secure a weekly rental fee, rather than guests to be welcomed.

My wife and I came for the week with our young adult children. We absolutely love this area for its wild and unspoiled feel. You can hear loons every night.
The cottage was immaculate and really well appointed with everything we needed, combining all the comforts of our home right in the middle of the wilderness. Will definitely come back.
There is plenty to do in the area, with hiking trails in Rushing River Park, Kenora as well as boats, canoes, and jet skis for rent just down the road.

Mike and Helena's cabin on dogtooth lake is gorgeous and they were excellent hosts, gave us all the information we would need to know during our stay. Would definitely recommend this property and Mike and Helena as hosts!

Cottage was excellent. Very clean and well stocked kitchen. Only issues were we couldn't get the AC units in the bedrooms to work and the bed in the third bedroom was a little uncomfortable. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Girls weekend - house was perfect for 4 of us, but room for up to 10. Modern and clean and had everything you needed. Close to resort to use beach and swim dock. Close to Kenora for staycation. Would recommend staying here.

I definitely recommend this place.

We really enjoyed getting away to this beautiful and quiet vacation spot. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by Helena and Mike, and their son who was very enthusiastic about showing us around (which my own little one appreciated). They showed us everything we needed to know for our stay and were very pleasant. The place was exactly as pictured and very clean. There is no wifi, which I thought was nice so everyone had to disconnect and really enjoy our time away. There is a shared sandy beach, which my children loved, and a shared dock with a slide and jumping platform. The kids really enjoyed making use of that. It's a quick walk down from the cabin. Kenora is just over 20 minutes away in case you need to pick something up. The views are beautiful and peaceful. We were delighted with our stay and enjoyed ourselves despite the weather not being ideal for part of our stay. Bring your DVDs for evening entertainment or for those rainy days. If you want a nice, clean, quiet, relaxing getaway on a lake I would recommend this place.

A group of 8 of us spent 3 nights there, and had an amazing time! No issues whatsoever. Would definitely recommend!

The cabin is very clean and really well set up and had lots of great areas for gathering together. We enjoyed the kayaks and the games and did try our hand with the pizza oven! Heather and Michael were excellent and helped us get settled in quickly with a few quick calls.
The cabin is privately owned within a resort so there were great features that were shared like a sand beach, swim dock, jumping platform and basketball area.
The downside is that there is only parking for 2 vehicles by the cabin and we had to park our truck and boat trailer further away and the areas behind and beside the cabin that we wanted to explore had many no trespassing signs that kept us from close enough to have a good lake view but it was just a short walk down to the dock.
Overall the cabin is beautiful and clean and owners are great and we would stay again.

Great experience in a beautiful setting. Communication was great with the owners - they were super attentive to our needs.

Overall, the place is good for a small gathering with friends. There is a basketball court, a small beach and the dock which allows for some activities! Fun things to fill some time. Unfortunately the lake was cold by this time but was still fun! Careful for leeches. The kayaks and paddle boat that comes with the place were definitely put to good use! It is a small and quiet area though, so if you’re afraid to be too loud by accident and have to worry , it might not be the place for you. There are neighbours right in front of this cabin. Thank you to Mike and Helena for being so accommodating! Instructions were crystal clear!

Beautiful Cabin right next to Rushing River provincial park. We were a family of 7 and we were very comfortable in this space. With the nights getting cooler the wood burning stove was a very nice amenity. We enjoyed the large deck area and the fire pit.

Very comfortable place its like modern style cabin. The owner is very approachable and provide a lot of stuff inside the cabin. Very good experience with my friends. I would go back again thats for sure.
2.5 / 5.0
Nice cottage in an excellent location! Keep in mind one bathroom is in the cottage and the other bathrooms/showers are public access facilities across the lane. For parents with young children the cottage is a work in progress with railings and guard rails missing from the deck/patio. The owners Mike and Helena are easy to reach and helpful. Overall a wonderful experience with lots of space for entertainment inside and outside.
2.0 / 5.0
We really enjoyed our stay! The cabin is very cozy, the only thing we didn't like that much was that there was just one bathroom to share with 9 people!
