Organizzazione, pulizia e silenzio senza rumore.

Excellent staff. Decent menu and professional-seeming chefs.
No lift, but I was given a 3rd floor room despite my obviously being a pensioner. Television in my room was tucked into a shelf on the furniture, so it was sideways on to the bed. That meant that it was impossible to see the full tv screen from my bed so I never even turned the tv on (a first for me). Looking back, it kinda ruined the stay for me, among other things, I usually turn on the tv first thing on entering a new hotel room and added to that, there was a perfectly good wall opposite the bed where the tv could have been hung.
Also, I was told by Benjamin the concierge that because I had booked a room that stated ‘1 adult occupant’, that if I then wanted to invite any guest to my room that I would have to pay for ‘2 adult occupants rates’. No way I agree with that policy.
Flies were buzzing everywhere around my food when I was eating in their canteen, while at the same time that I was silently cussing the flies and the hotel I was asking myself ‘why don’t they have one of those blue light flies zappers’!!?? Bloody flies actually alighting on my food. UUUUGGHHJ….!!!
Oh, and my very helpful (true) hotel driver tried to get me to pay him for services by asking for more than what seemed value to me. I just gave him in dollars half of what he had asked for, but I still feel I was over- generous, because I had also already given him 2 lovely ‘puzzles’ gifts.

The hotel is very basic, but exactly what you need to serve the purpose of just stopping over in Mombasa.
Comfy bed, spacious room and they have a restaurant (not the best for vegetarians but was fine). Very friendly and accommodating staff!
To be honest I think it should be a lot cheaper for what you get!

Our little team stayed here for one night only, in preparation to catch the SGR the next morning to go to Nairobi.
This was an absolute gem of a place, a little tricky to find if I'm honest once we were in the hubub of the town, but using Google Maps we got there without a fuss. We were greeted and assisted at the entrance to the hotel and shown to our rooms.
For a budget hotel, I have to say, this really was a great stay. The beds were very comfortable, the mossie net over the bed was quite attractive and really functional, and the shower and loo was lovely and clean. There was good aircon too for those that needed it and a fan. There was even a telly but it only had about 3 channels of fuzzy rubbish and I didn't go to Kenya to watch the box, so I wasn't fussed.
The food was delicious and copious but it did take a little more time to organise. Because of COVID, lockdowns and the financial crisis, lots of Kenyan hotels haven't managed to get back on their feet properly. As a result, the kitchen at Coastgate doesn't always carry a broad selection of ingredients for that day. You just need to let them know what you fancy and they'll source everything fresh from the market which is literally outside your door, then present you with a delicious plate of supper at the time you want it served.
The food options were abundant by the way - there was lots of delicious Kenyan and European choices. Nobody left the table with a hole in their tummies, I can tell you that, in fact, my only grumble about this amazing little place would be that they served TOO much food and we were concerned about waste! We took back doggie bags so all was good but I guess the reason they do it is because they want to ensure people leave good reviews and that more people start using the hotel again.
If you need to get the SGR from Mombasa to anywhere, make this your pitstop! It's smashing and the people are incredibly gracious and helpful and the price is perfect!
Just as we arrived at the Coastgate, the heavens opened and it poured with rain! Which was refreshing but I think lots of windows were opened to let the fresh air in, as it had been really muggy. I think as a result, there were a good few crawlie bugs, including a gorgeous foot long millipede that checked in with us too!
It wasn't a major problem, just worthy of note that it's a very rural setting. To be honest, if you're really freaked out about bugs, consider staying in another country!

Good price, convenient location, clean, guarded parking. Will stay again.
Google map took me on a road over a nearby hill, which was not a good road....double-check directions.

was clean and the aircon was cooling
hardly any Wi-Fi in my room

The only thing I liked was the receptionist. He was friendly and did his job well.
I did not like almost everything. The photos on the booking.com website for this accommodation does not reflect what the reality is.
The rooms are old and badly or hardly maintained. The pillowcases are old and torn, the sheets are also old, and stained. Blood traces on the mosquito net and it was a struggle to use the mosquito net, since the rails are not working. The towels were too old to be presented to any guest.
The toilet was not flushing!
Come breakfast time, we were harrased by flies. They were all over us and all over our food that we could not enjoy anything.
Tip/advice to the management:
Maintainance! Mentainance! Guys. Very important. Make your guests happy by upgrading your accommodation. Alooot has to happen.

Clean place, good breakfast and attentive staff.
The road google took us through from the SGR to the hotel was hectic. Narrow, potholed and through a dodgey area.
