I stay at the Great Southern Hotel Melbourne a lot because it is comfortable and very affordable. The room is always clean and has good amenities. It is in walking distance of my clients and great public transport.

Great staff at check in. And check out. Breakfast offers fantastic - $9 choice with yoghurt, fruit, cereal, toast - and help yourself to tea/ coffee or $17 with extra cooked breakfast they served from buffet styles included eggs, bacon, baked beans, hash browns. Both great value. Buy coupon at reception b4 eating. Rooms very quiet. Modern hotel . White bathrooms.
My preferred accommodation in city as just down from Spencer Street rail station and lots shops. Location great for Casino, and South bank DFO, vast number cafe/ restaurants and much more

A basic but pleasant hotel very close to the station and airport bus terminus. Room reasonable size and good bathroom. Good value for money.
The bathroom does have an opaque glass door but the design still gives reasonable privacy. The full-length mirror right in front of the toilet is an odd design feature!
Breakfast is good and excellent value but does not start until 7:30am

Wonderful stay at The Great Southern Hotel yesterday- experience was, on the whole- excellent, with staff who were extremely polite and helpful. I appreciated being able to store my luggage until my departure later today- and the breakfast was superb.
One slight issue was dust and debris in parts of the room and bathroom- but I tend to clean areas myself before their use- so it was not a major fault at all. I was also charged $20 for a prepaid full breakfast, when the price listed was $17. (Not sure if it was a service charge- or what the reason was.) In spite of these minor issues I Will most certainly stay again. Thank you for your service.

Reception staff were thoughtful, helpful and friendly. Room was smart, clean and comfortable.
The only thing that could have been better was that the frig was noisy and didn't stop buzzing all night and the air condition was old and noisy. I had a meal in the dining room attached to the hotel which was delicious.
Overall it is a great hotel.

usually i get a really good room, but this year i got a very bad room where there was major gaps in the door that allowed a lot of light in, there was no proper duvet for the bed and i just had multiuple sleepless nights.

Can't beat the location for CBD activities. For a quick work trip this is a super convenient and well priced option. The building is old and the facilities are also older, however if all you need is a bed and a shower in a clean and tidy and secure location, this is a great option. I probably wouldn't book it for a romantic night away with the missus, but for work or boys trip, go for it!

Check-in was quick and efficient. The hotel is a fairly large older style hotel very near Southern Cross Railway Station and walking distance to Crown Casino. The room was a good size with aircon, a comfortable bed and an ensuite. Breakfast was not included in the room price and was $9 for continental or $17 for a buffet style all you can eat one. I took the latter and was very happy with it. I had a room overlooking Spencer St. but the traffic noise was limited and did not disturb me. Good value for money and I will stay there again when I visit Melbourne.

Very accommodating and friendly staff. Has a nice restaurant whoch serves good food and has happy hour too. Affordable food and drinks. The rooms are big. Rooms are clean. Need to request for room service- as advertised. Overall, the place is very good and central to everything.

The staff were very helpful and the room was comfortable and as advertised. Very convenient to Southern Cross railway station. Seem to be ongoing issues with Tv system which they said would be fixed the day after I was there.

Short walk from Southern Cross station, staff were helpful and friendly. Lots of dining options close by. Trains were a little bit noisy sometimes. I would definitely recommend.

Rooms are what you paid for but more than adequate just to sleep.

Booked a twin bed room but was given a king bed. Not appropriate for business travel with a colleague. Had to wait an hour for beds to be redone. No TV reception for whole time we stayed.
