Peaceful place in the nature, singing birds and giant trees were amazing. Food was excellent and the rooms are very authentic. Spa could be less expensive though.

We have now stayed at all five haciendas in Mexico under this “Luxury Collection” umbrella: Santa Rosa, San Jose, Temozon, Uayamon, and Campeche and this was my favorite! The staff is amazingly friendly, food was delicious, the nature tour was great, grounds are beautiful, and the room was very comfortable. I wish we had stayed longer. We were there with two adults and our three kids: 12, 2.5, and <1 year old.

Hacienda San José de Chulo is much more than an hotel, it is an ancestral place where nature's elements combine with outstanding people living to makes happy and pleasantly everyone visiting them. Certainly I appreciate Felipe, Miguel, Alberto, Diana and all of the incredibly staff members who made us feel in a paradise.

The place its self is wonderful, the hacienda is in amazing condition, the gardens, the pool, and the rooms are outstanding. The service is great, is truly a luxury hotel. Location is very convenient, we took 45 mins to reach Merida's airport and within a short 30 mins average drive, you could reach other haciendas, hidden archeological sites and the most beautiful Izamal town.

Unique property with exceptional rooms and a hands-off approach to hospitality. It was like I owned a hacienda in the Yucatan. The property itself is given just the right amount of maintenance: no excessive polishing or lighting. Everything is simple and rustic. If you're looking for thrills, this isn't the place for you, but if you like blossom floating in the wind, flowers scattered over every path, wasps and birds playing over the pool, and the highest ceilings I've seen in a hotel, then this is it.

A magical place in the middle of the jungle. History is very present and you want to learn more about the daily life of the people who lived here several hundred years ago. You can almost sense them, someone in the corner of your eye, an unexpected scent...

What a beautiful place! Would highly recommend this if you want a few days of peace and quiet. The staff is great - beyond pleasant and accommodating - so so nice! The spa treatments were great.

Arriving to this hotel itself is like discovering an archeological site, its rustic charm alone is worth the drive. The staff makes you feel like you belong there, the room itself was magnificent, it felt as though it were my house. As far as Im concerned best hotel in Mexico.

The grounds were lovely. The highlight was the pool. No complaints there. It was great. The grounds were nice but while there were aspects of the Starwood "Luxury Collection" experience----the front desk staff in the end were inflexible and non-accomodating. It really was a mix. The food service was mixed. The location was isolated ---about 45-1 hr drive to Merida, but for some travelers, that would be a good thing.

Hacienda is magical. Gardens are beautiful, and we loved staying here. Maybe we stayed too long. 4 nights with 2 young children, and there was really no one else around. Would have been nice to have hotel offer activities (cooking, horse back riding or gardening or something local?). The pool is too cold for young children to really have fun for a long time. Izamal town near by is worth seeing. Staff is wonderful. Overall great time for the family.

I would not recommend this hotel for families with small children

The Hacienda San Jose is wonderful hotel. We only stayed for one night but would gladly have stayed for a week. The hotel was not too difficult to find coming from Merida.

Hacenda San Jose is in a secluded area about an hour east of Merida and about 7km east of Tixkokob. It is beautifully laid out in the buildings of a former henequen hacienda to which have been added four Mayan "Villas." We stayed n one of the latter which was elegant. Several acres of enclosed gardens surround the main buildings. A large swimming pool has been installed in the hacienda's irrigation tank. Meals are served in an open arcade or in tables set up outdoors adjacent to it. The food is excellent. We had a delightful experience. The only drawback one should note is that it is located in a remote spot, a good drive from the city of Merida and about an hour's drive from the chief archaeological sites (Chichen Itza, Dzibilchaltun or Mayapan). Thus it is a place to stay for several nights while absorbing the region and not a single-night stopover.

This is a really beautiful place. The room we had (no. 2 I think) was great - big comfy bed, lovely big bathroom and toiletries, and a hammock to sleep in if you wish. Beautiful flowers on the bed and in the bathroom. The hacienda is set in fabulous, lush green, quiet surroundings. The pool is divine after a hot day of exploring the nearby ruins - and there's even a hammock in the shady end of the pool to really help you relax... Staff are very friendly. Food is average (a lot of beans...), the winelist limited, but when you dine by candlelight on the lawn under the stars, who cares... This is a really lovely place. Highly recommended.
