Clean and spacious, well located, if you can find it. Forget use of GPS/google maps. Hotel doesn’t give you great directions/support and hard to reach. Probably similar properties same value but a little better. Bed was awful. Bathroom unnecessarily huge, tub ginormous and hard to get into, terrible hand shower. Breakfast was good. Beautiful, unique town, a must see!!

This is an amazing place to stay, with an amazing view of the ancient city and an amazing staff to attend to your every need. Having the morning meal in their breakfast room gives you a taste of what its like to live in a cave (well, a well-appointed cave). I highly recommend staying here!

Hotel has an amazing location. Breakfast is exquisite and rooms are very comfortable. Location of the hotel is PERFECT and it has an amazing view. Please have in mind that front desk of the hotel closes (we were not told and we were surprised when no one was in the front desk starting 8pm). You have to coordinate the transportation to the parking lot the day before so dont forget!

Finding the property was nearly impossible. Directions From staff or incomplete. After locking for a long time in the area. A staff member came to meet us. They could solve this easily by providing a QR code for Google Maps.

Absolutely incredible cave hotel in the heart of Sassi in Matera. What an amazing experience. They also brought us aperol spritz to our room with snacks. One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Didn’t want to leave.

A really charming hotel with very friendly staff.

First of all, we had a few issues with our travel arrangements. The hotel was very accommodating and made several phone calls on our behalf. We were very impressed. The location is in the heart of the old town so very convenient for sightseeing. The room was spacious and comfortable. A huge bathroom was built into an old cave. We had ample choice for breakfast. Overall, highly recommended

Great place to stay right in the heart of Matera Sassi. Staff is very welcoming, good breakfast. Only drawback was the a/c as it did not produce enough cold air to cool the room.

Beautiful property with a fantastic location in the Sassi. Clean and luxurious rooms. Absolutely wonderful breakfast and coffee. We don’t speak Italian- so the young woman who spoke English at our evening check in was super helpful.

This is a cave hotel. Our room was on the top floor inside a cave. The view from our room faced the old town of Matera. It was spectacular. Breakfast offered a great variety of food, coffee made for you, fresh! The staff was so friendly. High recommended. Please note, if you are driving into Matera, you will need to park in a nearby garage, and catch the shuttle to this hotel. This area is steep and roads uneven, therefore you need good walking shoes.

This is a unique property in the middle of antic city Matera. Beautiful views from the windows to die for, location, etc. Hotel is in excellent condition, furniture, room design, etc. Breakfast is very good. Great options for fine food in the area. You need to be prepare to walk a lot in the city of Matera with steps up and down including to and from hotel. If you can not walk - it is not for you. Parking (free or paid) is on the street within 10-15 min or so walking. Finding can be a problem. Do not bring large car unless you planning to park in some private parking and take taxi to hotel. We had Fiat 500 and it was great. Hotel can arrange transportation too. Just call them. We left our suite cases in the trunk of the car and walked to hotel with small backpacks. it was perfect.

We love where the hotel is centrally located, the staff is very helpful (especially Maria Angela she helped us with the tour and restaurant reservation). Room is what it was describe, clean sheets and bathroom.

Our stay was lovely. Our room was at the very top of the complex (about 75 steps up) so we struggled with a bags. The lady who ran the place actually carried mine which was nice but i wish there was a note in the room description as i avoid these rooms. The view was snagging though. Also, our room was not serviced during our 2 day stay which was also disappointing. I found this unusual for the style and other service at the property.

One of the best experiences of my life. The town, the Hotel, the atmosphere, all total amazing. It was Mr Bond that showed me this for the first time. I was coming to South of France for a Month anyway, so I had a week here.

This was the most amazing place we have ever stayed. Matera and this property are mind blowing. Lovely friendly reception. Authentic cave accommodation and very spacious. Great advice on local restaurants. Breakfast fit for royalty. Really an amazing experience overall.

An amazing, beautiful and unique experience! The property was charming and quaint. We loved our stay and will come back. It is also a convenient location to stay in Sassi, easy to access in comparison to others. There are a few parking spots out front that you can temporarily park to drop off your luggage then move your car to parking garage a short walk away.

We had an amazing experience at Fra i Sassi. The hotel room itself is a cave on the rocks, with bluetooth bathtube, where you can bath and relax. The Terrazzo on the outside has a fantastic view over Matera. Perfect just to seat and drink a cup of tea. Breakfast room and table was just beautiful. Everything was so clean and organized.

Couldn’t have picked a better hotel in a better location. View is spectacular and gives the true feeling of matera. Everyone was lovely, happy hour with beautiful wine from the region and delicious breakfast variety. Dinner spot across the street very recommended- da nico. Would definitely come back if visiting Matera again.

We really enjoyed our cave room, it was magnificent. The location was perfect and the staff was friendly and helpful! We hope to return some day. What a magical city.
