Good Hotel to come qith your family, but you will do a lot of walking

We just stayed 13 days at the Riviera Princess and there are pros & cons but thanks to Lorenzo the pros easily win! CONS - we have stayed in the past in the Platinum area & it is not as special as it once was, some menu options in the a la carte restaurants are quite bad, they are constantly trying to sell you something (dont go near an information desk) & the rooms and some common areas are worn out and badly need the coming renovations. Our platinum suite was a bit of a disgrace really. worn out furniture, the couch has sooo many nasty stains on it and the same squashed bug was left on the wall for our entire 13 days PROS! - Some of the a la carte menu options are fantastic, there is tons to do, but mostly the staff are awesome! The staff somehow in such a huge resort they managed to make it feel like it was all about us. There was Carla at Riveria Platinum reception desk, Martin a shuttle bus driver, Martin our watersports advisor, Martin our main pool bar barman, Matias our dive instructor & a fabulous lady (whose name I cant recall) who is the shorter of the two regular hosts at the snack Riveria buffet but MOST OF ALL there was Lorenzo from snack Riviera buffet. I cant say enough, that man made our vacation, his face lit up when he saw us, he was SO attentive, he shared info & advice, he made us feel special and we looked forward to seeing him every morning to start our day. Lorenzo alone is enough reason for us to return!! Gracias mi amigo!

What a fantastic week at the Grand Riviera Princess! My wife and I were celebrating our very first anniversary and the staff and management truly made us feel special during our stay. From the moment we checked in we knew the staff here on another level! The resort definitely shows its age in some spots, but nothing that takes away from the experience. The room was clean, spacious, and cool to escape the scorching sun. The al a carte restaurants need some work in terms of quality, so we stuck with the buffet which was surprisingly good, with many options.

The hotel has SO many resting areas for different kinds of vibes, they have a pool area where they have the main activities and music, and other large pools that are more for a relaxed atmosphere. There are multiple swim up bars and buffets that are walking distance to most points of the resort. BE CAREFUL with the small animals that look like raccoons (called Coati’s), they are not afraid of people and will steal your food and knock over your drinks. Its not really a massive nuisance, you just have to be aware of them and be careful where you put your food and drinks, just finish whatever drink/food you have when you get it and you’ll be golden throughout your time at the resort. The beach and entire resort was clean, and the employees were always attentive and friendly to us. The hotel also has a taxi service so you don’t have to buy the roundtrip taxi ride when you arrive at the airport, since the airport taxi’s will overcharge you significantly. Overall, it was a great experience for us, but its far more adult friendly than kid friendly, since most events were geared towards adults.

Unfriendly amd rude staff. We got to our room and AC was dripping water, it took the hotel 2 hours to come for help.,even at the end we had to go to the reception and wait to get a different room assigned. Bad customer service all around

Everyone was always really helpful, it was easy.

This property was too big upon arrival. It is not relaxing at all. I’ve had leg surgery with a rod put in my leg so my leg swells when I stand or walk too much. We tried calling Expedia to ask for a refund immediately and leave the hotel to which they said we can’t until the next day when the hotel staff are available. The next day we spoke with Diana customer service at the hotel and she said I’d be refunded for all but the night we stayed. I am now on my way back home and I find out The hotel is denying me my refund when I did not stay there past one night. I left and booked another hotel as soon as I could and Now they want to just keep my money?? The hotel smells cause of the animals, the buffets were bland as hell and beach view room was covered by jungle trees everywhere so no beach view at all. It’s a massive compound and just wait for golf carts all day to get anywhere. This was not the vacation I wanted and I do not understand how difficult it is to simply refund my money for The nights I didn’t stay!!! I will ensure to never recommend grand Rivera to anyone heading to playa del Carmen.

The place was really nice and clean. The food was very tasty and the buffet very impressive. However, there was one day that the employees over 200 employees did a strike and the hotel did nothing for their staff. There was only one buffet were closed. Everything was closed. There was barely water And the hotel management nobody took ownership. The employees did a strike due to pay/tips And management were able to resolve it the next day and everything went back to normal. But it was only unfortunate. That management did nothing for their guests. Not even the rooms were cleaned

I love this hotel this is my 3rd time coming back. However my room this time was a outdated and had issues with the air conditioning also the food was not that good this time around.

Overall was a very good place to visit.

Beach views was good

Everything about the hotel was awesome, the food was great and the drinks were amazing, we enjoyed every minute of it.

Everything went well except for one night where staff were on strike and closed a lot of amenities to the resort this issue took place for a day and was resolved the next day

Property was beautiful. Staff was amazing.Animals were alittle aggressive, jump up on the table and take your food. Trolleys took too long to come. Overall we had a great trip. Looking to book again.

PROS: Great dining options, exciting entertainment, amazing and welcoming staff! =========== CONS: Among diverse fauna here are plenty of coati, which are very cute animals but unfortunately most trashcans on the property and at the beach specifically are not protected against them properly, so could be accessed, which can spread trash and disease etc on the beach and surrounding territory. Trashcans need to be replaced with coati-proof type. Also, hotel employees deserve a raise for their hard work! Last day of our vacation was negatively affected by employee strike due to poor pay conditions, and the hotel management should make appropriate changes and improvements in pay to avoid such strike in the future, which can certainly disrupt a hard-earned vacation.

An amazing resort!

Everything was amazing however the lunch and dinner at the buffet was not good at all

It wasn’t as nice as it was before. We went in 2014,2015,2016 and it was very nice. Stuff is not friendly, food is the same every day and not as much as it was before. Everything is dirty. Wat to much animals no animal control , if you go swimming they go inside your bag and eat your food, and steal from your bag. They looks like racuuns and they go through garbage make a mess and then go through people stuff and steal food and drink from your cup. This is very dis costing. I would never go back there.

We loved everything about the resort itself, very clean even with those stupid ciaots that got in my bag and left dirt on everything! the staff all were friendly and great! Want to thank Jose’ by the seafood restaurant pool swim up bar! Excellent service! Buffet could have been better, food not the warmest. We missed our reservation for dinner one night and were able to get into another one with the manager…thank you! Beach was smelly every day, but still beautiful! Liked that we were upgraded with our room that was a plus! Thanks for the great trip with my bestie for some girl time!

We did get a room with pool access which you would think no one else would go inside your area because you paid for it. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Why even pay extra for it? Food was ok. very plain & repetitive . Customer service was ok as well. Lady upfront didn't even care to mention that the kayak and a mini boat were free to use & we had two closer buffets next to us. We did love the Theater & the shows they were very nice!. Also.. the cups they give you at any bar for drinks, they reuse them, which was kind of gross because we would see people leave the cups on top of the trash bin & these animals would start licking them .. so I really hope they don't reuse those. Thankfully, we had our own. Rooms were kept clean which was nice as well. Would I recommend.. no. Would I come back ..no sorry.

Terrible experience at this resort, would not recommend or ever go back. Property completely run down! Beach not maintained daily, seaweed everywhere, and rocky beach. Rooms are deplorable!! Mold everywhere and filthy! Food- substandard and barely edible! Hard to get reservations at any of the restaurants we had to eat buffet daily. Upon check in we were harassed into buying a time share. If we asked the concierge a question they would also try to sell us a time share. Lastly the spa…. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!!! We got scammed at the spa by the saleswoman after filling out paperwork for our appointment She told us we would get 2 princesses packages with bonus champagne and strawberries. When we arrived to our appointment they informed us they couldn’t do the whole package in one day and we would have to return the next day unfortunately we were leaving at 7:30 am the following day and couldn’t return. When I said I was going to cancel because I couldn’t return the next day they charged me 100 US dollars for cancellation fee even though it was them that couldn’t give us the package we signed up for. When I spoke to the hotel manager Osvaldo he said he couldn’t do anything since I signed the paperwork. Just a total scam!! This place is a rip off not 5 star and overpriced. I wouldn't even recommend this place to my worst enemy!! Do yourself a favor And go somewhere else!!

We came to the Grand Riviera Princess to celebrate a birthday with my family and unfortunately we had a really bad experience. The buffet selection wasn’t the greatest and to book a reservation with one of the restaurants was difficult all that was left was late night reservations. Lastly DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING AT THE SPA!!! We totally got scammed. This sales lady told us we would be getting 2 Princess’s packages for 2 hours and as a bonus she would throw in champagne with strawberries. All we would have to do is fill out some paperwork to confirm our package and appointment information. The day we arrive to our appointment and on time we were told unfortunately we couldn’t do the whole package in one day because they were closing soon even after booking the appointment days in advance from 4pm to 6pm no one said there was an issue until the day we arrived for the service. After informing them it was our last day at the resort because we would be leaving at 7:30 am the next day they still couldn’t accommodate us. When we tried to cancel because they weren’t able to give us the service we originally requested they said they would charge us 50 percent of the package which was 100 US dollars. No one ever told us there was a cancellation fee and also, I was cancelling because they were closing soon not my fault. After contacting the hotel manager Osvaldo he informed me there was nothing he could do because I sign the paperwork. Terrible service and experience would not recommend!!

Very nice staff, buffets are yum, everything was very nice
