great place to relax and enjoy the onsen. good and helpful staff. far from train station however they do provide shuttle service, you just need to call the hotel to arrange for it. not much around the area for shopping though,

Rooms were traditional and clean. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Not many other facilities other than the baths; but the baths were great.

My boyfriend and I very much so enjoyed our stay at this ryokan. There was an initial amount of confusion with the language - only one employee spoke English, and the other employees seemed VERY stressed about the language barrier. For instance, I had gotten an email implying that we were getting dinner as part of our stay (which was not the case), which caused some confusion when we arrived. Additionally, we had to call the inn to get picked up at the train station, which was difficult as I only had an American phone. I also didnt realize that the inclusion of an on-site onsen meant we wouldnt have a shower *in* the room, which was an interesting surprise. That said, we loved our stay. Certainly not the most comfortable experience, sleeping on the tatami mats, but comfort isnt why we wanted to try staying at a Japanese traditional inn. The inn was also a bit run down - definitely in need of a renovation. However, it was a very unique experience and Im glad we did it. The onsen was so lovely and relaxing - I dont think Ive ever felt SO relaxed and chill.Additionally, the dinner (which we ended up scheduling anyway) and the breakfast (included) were incredible. We had such a cool experience with the traditional shabu shabu in a private restaurant, and the breakfast was full of foods I had never had in my life.Overall, the inn was a very worthwhile experience.

Welcoming and friendly staff with great English. Traditional style style with futon on tatami. Very relaxing view of the lake nearby and yukata to relax in. Loved the traditional breakfast and bathhouse.

It was our first time to Japan, and we werent exactly sure what the whole experience would be like. While there was a bit of a language barrier we were not disappointed in the least. Right from the moment we got on the shuttle (from Ogotoonsen the nearest train station) to when we were dropped off, the staff did everything they could to make our stay as memorable as possible. The dinner served in our room was incredible, breakfast equally amazing, and having the private osen in our room tied everything together. I was a bit worried beforehand about the dinner since I dont eat any meat except fish, but they accommodated without issue. The only unexpected bit was the hotel was not right on the lake and there was a small road inbetween, but very little traffic and the well kept garden near the windows blocked things out. Apparently its pretty common that they are not completely out of town so theyre accessible to locals. Would definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone.

Staff was very courteous but spoke very little English. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was amazing. We got a traditional Japanese room and slept on futons on the floor and had no private shower (use Public bath that includes hot spring water but totally nude). You can pay extra for a private hot tub on the top floor. Overall very happy with experience and would do it again!

The Inn is a 25 minute train ride from Kyoto station but they have a shuttle to take you to the station. The facilities are a little worn for wear but the staff and food are incredible and make up for it. Definitely choose the package with the meals.

I booked two nights at this place to experience real Japanese accommodations. We ended up leaving after one night because the place was extremely cold and uncomfortable. I cant believe the amount of money they charged us. Its a ripoff. Yes they have Japanese set up in the room, futons and authentic breakfast. We had rooms with tubs which were more expensive. The place was freezing, the stone tub is protected from the outside by the bamboo shade. The shower is next to the tub right outside. I did use it and it was very uncomfortable. Sleeping on futons is ok but the room was cold. Breakfast is for hardcore Japanese. We just had rice and miso soup. Location is terrible. No restaurants around or anything else.

Excellent place to stay! Breakfast each morning and dinner was fabulous. Could not of asked for more in the services they provided. It was a great experience to stay at a traditional style inn. Thank you to the staff for their graciousness and hospitality. I definitely would return again.

My friend and I were hesitant to stay here, because it was off from the central Kyoto. BUT, coming here was a great choice we made. This is the ideal Ryokan. It is clean, has very peaceful and calm environment, and we had their in-room kaiseki dinner at a reasonable price. Totally worth it. We booked a room with a private bath, and that really made our stay there memorable. The room provided choices of Japanese robe, yukata to wear, along with ladies setting up our futons for us. On top of the great service and special experiences, they provided us the hotel shuttle to take us to the train station the check out morning. I would totally recommend this place:) Oh, and colorful delicious seasonal ingredients breakfast included was a cherry on top!

good service, clean room, the meal are nice, the staff are friendly and polite, provide outdoor spa if we requested, but the water of outdoor spa is a bit cold comparing to the indoor spa

First, I have to say the staff was very friendly with us! We had one of the room with mini onsen in the room and it was perfect for us. The breakfast were beautiful and delicious (the miso soup with the little shells was my favorite!)!We also had dinner one evening and we were once again amazed at the size and quality of the meal. We had a very relaxing stay overall!

The service was very friendly and professional, the rooms were clean and the food was great but the hotel was showing quite a bit of wear and tear and it was in an area that was pretty barren and run-down. It felt like a has been place. There were no restaurants or anything nearby.

I was surprised to stay at a hotspring hotel within 20 minutes train ride from Kyoto. I thought I booked our stay for 21 October and when we got to the hotel we were surprised that the booking was for 22 October. Mr. Ikeda at the front desk was excellent he managed to change the reservation for us. We booked the japanese tatami room with in-room open-air hotspring bath. My husband and I were delighted by the size of the room and the bath. We stayed overnight and had a delicious breakfast in the morning. The staff were helpful and they could speak some english. They did have explanation cards in english on the room and the bath. The location is at the Ogoto Port of Lake Biwa (Biwako). The shuttle was very helpful the next morning when leaving to go back to Kyoto.
Train from Kyoto station is the JR Kosei Line and get off at Ogotoonsen Station. Call the hotel for station pickup.
