The house is clean, comfortable, and conveniently located steps away from the beach. Perfect for families to enjoy water activities and explore the area. Definitely recommend staying here!

I really loved the house. Debbie was very helpful. The only problem was that I didn't receive proper information about getting in and if Debbie wasn't there when we arrived we would not have been able to get in.

At first, we had no hot water. Then I flipped the breaker per owner instruction and we got some after about 12 hours. This happened again three days into our stay but the hot water never came back. So half of our stay, no hot water. I have reached out to owner, but heard back. Fantastic location, steps to the beach. Was clean enough except for the caked on dust on a ceiling fan. Would only recommend if hot water problem is remedied. We were out in nature about 12 hours a day and really needed showers. Some girls heated water on the stove.

Great location
It's just a short walk across a parking lot to the beach. Great place for the family to play in the water. The house is clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. We enjoyed the Hilo area and used it as our base to explore around the west side of the island, view the lava lake, etc. We had several little green geckos come inside and hang out. They really aren't a problem, but it seems like adding a better door sweep would cut down their ability to get in.

Quirky throwback
Pros: this property had a convenient, great location literally steps from the beach, was well equipped, the property manager was very responsive, let us check in early, and gave helpful recommendations about nearby amenities. It was clean and roomy.
Cons: Biggest one was this is actually a duplex, and you can hear everything the other guests are doing on the other side of the wall and there's an internal door connecting the two which was locked, but is odd. The "neighbors" were another family with kids, and quite quiet - but you could hear the TV, the conversations, the toilet flushing, everything.
The "pond" in the back is more of a swamp, it's pretty dated and a bit funky (sunken shower, pocket doors that don't lock on either side of the "master" bedroom) and the beds are old and squeaky.
Also, make sure you get the wifi code BEFORE you get to the property, because it wasn't in the welcome email and I had to leave before I could get enough signal to message the host.

Great beachside location!
This cozy house was clean and as advertised. Location can't be beat if you have kids who want to hang out at the beach.
Unfortunately on our last night, there were renters in the adjoining part of house who threw a raucous party, right adjacent to my son's room. Homeowners were very prompt and understanding though and managed to get us a refund for that night for which we are very appreciative.

Maybe as good as it gets for Hilo?
No blender. No disposal. No BBQ. Limited cookware.
Funky design with a locked door between two units. No locks on 2 access doors to master bedroom left very limited privacy. Otherwise we did enjoy the location and park beach access and the house has a cool setting for open air living. Price seems steep for quality of home and furnishings.

Beachfront—ha !
House was at edge of a beach park, shower in bath was a 22” step down into a shower pit—dangerous! There was a standing water/bog/swamp at back of house, bugs, frogs, mosquitoes, bad smell. Screens in house torn or broken., we shut all glass windows and still we killed bugs and mosquitoes galore. We purchased fans to provide air, as ceiling fans too high to reach chain or chain not functioning. If we could have left and found other place to stay we would have. Front door steps, highstep up, difficult hazard. So much jungle growth could not see ocean—that is, the the “ocean front” that was across the swamp, Thru the growth, over the large parking lot, past the sea walls to beach….this house was so not as advertised. Such a bad disappointment and full of hazards. One of my guests was so uncomfortable she left 2days early… the rest of we 2 would have left but our air res could not change.

Great location if you can withstand the bugs
Excellent location but not worth it for us.
Difficult to communicate with the owner. We had several weeks of radio silence after asking questions.
We had a problem with bugs. Yes, I know there are bugs in Hawaii. My wife is from Hilo. In fact, we were there visiting family for a funeral. However, besides the expected spiders and roaches, this place has an untreated ant problem.
For the first several days, you couldn't eat without ants swarming. No food on the counters to serve dinner. Even setting a sandwich down on a plate instantly attracted a horde. They cleared up after we set out a ton of liquid traps overnight.
The covered front area for shoes has fire ants. My toddler sat to put on shoes and got severe bites up the back of both legs. After trying to hose the step off a few times, we gave up and stopped using the front door.
We told the owner we were having bad ant problems. Instead of offering any sympathy or helping us find a resolution, the owner basically scoffed at us and said, "nobody else has had any issues". That's interesting! Because our family members stayed at the SAME property earlier this year, had the place treated themselves, and told the owner that they did so. So (at the very least), the owners have known about the ants for several months.
Look, I appreciate that the bugs are not the owners fault, but the response to our problem was unhelpful and felt like retaliation for our attempts to cancel. Be sure to read the refund policy or purchase insurance. We didn't and it bit us (much like the fire ants).
To summarize: owner knew the place had ants and did not treat the property, then didn't help us when we had issues with ants.

Perfect Hawaii Home
We loved staying in this hidden little place by the water. The house was very spacious and comfortable and easily fit my family of 5. My wife loved being able to hear the ocean and wildlife in the evening and one of the best swimming areas in Hilo was just a short walk away. Overall a very enjoyable experience. I would definitely stay here again!

Looks can be deceiving!
The picture for this property does not do this place justice! This house is SUPER spacious, clean, up to date, well furnished, and cozy. It is hot during the day time, but the living room is always nice and cool because of the big tree that you see in picture of the front house. There was a lot of little fans to help keep the house cool and us at night. The house was well stocked and super clean with beach toys, washer dryer, and really clean up to date kitchen. And the parking space is in the back of the home that is not pictured, which was the biggest deceiving part of this rental. The back of the house was the best part of the home. We just sat out there spending time with family and enjoying the outside. This home is the best place ever and the owners do a great job at make it SIMPLE yet CONVIENENT!
Mahalo nui for allowing us to stay at your home and support our boys in their baseball journey to the Pony World Series.

Hilo charm in a family friendly location
This house was wonderful. The location is absolutely perfect for the kids....right across the parking lot from the best family friendly beach this side of the island. We could run out between the infamous Hilo rains at the beginning of the trip and luxuriate on the sand during the sunny second half of the trip. The furniture and finishes were all in great shape and very comfortable. The kitchen came well stocked for cooking for the whole trip. We borrowed my dad's grill for some outside cooking. We also really liked the shower/tub.
Our young kids all enjoyed playing with the water toys provided by the homeowner.
Some other people complained about the smell from the water outside but even at low tide it wasn't that bad. The kids had fun throwing rocks in it and looking at the visiting ducks who frequented the area. We even made friends with a sweet orange kitten we named twinkle. Thank you to the owner for letting us stay in her beautiful home. We would definitely be looking to stay again when we come visit Hilo next time.

Fantastic place to stay with your family on the water
This home was spacious and clean. We stayed here with our family and another family of 4 comfortably. There is only table seating for 4, but the adults made due on the couches when we ate at home. The house is only a parking lot away from Onekahakaha Beach Park. This beach is fantastic for families. We taught all the kids to snorkel in these calm shallow waters, and the adults enjoyed the water as well. We saw sea turtles and tropical fish. Very convenient location to stay in.
It is awesome that there is a washer and dryer on the premises to use. There is an outdoor shower to use as you come home from the beach which is great since there is only one to share inside the home. We only wish there was a privacy fence added so we could fully use the shower without being naked in the neighbor's front yard.
All in all, a great place to stay. We will back next time we're in Hilo.

Nice home in fine location, but Hurricane Lane dampened our trip.
We found the home just as pictured on the VRBO listing. It has plenty of room for our family group of two seniors, two adults, and one child. Everything was clean and in good order. Torrential rain and local flooding meant we could do virtually nothing on our 3-day itinerary, however, so we were disappointed and a bit claustrophobic.
Overall, we wished we had access to more specific local information during the storm. Road closures kept us from returning to Kona, and we were unsure whether we were located in a dangerous flood neighborhood. The owner did respond to our questions, but could not supply local updates. We were able to shop for groceries and emergency supplies such as flashlights, candles, bottled water, and food that would not require cooking. Fortunately we did not lose power, nor did any water come in the house. We left most of the supplies in the house. I know these conditions are not likely to recur, but at minimum, owners should leave information about reliable local sources of emergency updates.

Excellent location and property for children
We had plans to visit several beaches but my children (ages 13,12, 9, 7, and 2) were having so much fun at Onekahakaha beach that we really did not have any desire to go elsewhere. Several times every day we were out at the beach and it was so close that going home for naps or snacks was not a big deal. There was plenty to enjoy with swimming and snorkeling and exploring tide pools. Everyone got to see lots of fish, sea urchins, coral, eels, and to swim with the turtles. The house was very comfortable for our large group and we prepared most of our meals there. We would definitely recommend staying here again especially for families with younger children.

Close to beach, but Spartan, drab, and not clean
The Good: Proximity to beach, but the tenant in the attached unit has the access to the beach; you have to walk around the house and up steep steps to access or go all the way around via the road to reach the beach. Large living room, kitchen, and main bedroom, but bathroom and two bedrooms on south side are small and hot. All appliances for kitchen, but the utensils were flimsy. Giant washer and dryer; you will need them. Provided “free and clear” laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid as requested. Outdoor shower, but in front of house, no privacy. Maps/brochures provided.
The Bad: Too many, listing only most important that pictures don’t show. 1) Not a stand-alone house; it is a duplex with a tenant whose unit faces the beach (but he’s quiet and only saw him in the morning and at night). 2) The shower stall floor has over a 12-inch drop from the rest of the bathroom floor with no grab bars. Be very careful. If you have mobility problems or bad knees or hips, this is NOT the place for you. 3) Mildew growing on shower curtain (had to run through wash twice). 4) Two bedrooms along the south side of the house never cooled off. Ever. Even with the ceiling fans running. 5) All sheets were black and towels were dark brown, couldn’t tell if they were clean. Had to run them all through the wash, just to be sure. 6) There is a half-inch gap under the front door, so anything could crawl in at any time. The culvert/swamp/pond/tide-pool under the living room and bedroom got, well, swampy smelling.
The Ugly: Communication is non-existent after check in. They simply do not acknowledge or respond. The duplex was tidy, but not clean. Mildew build up around fixtures and urine smell at both toilets was nauseating. Horizontal surfaces (table tops, kitchen counters, etc. were clean, but vertical surfaces (cabinet doors, side of coffee table, etc.) were tacky/sticky. Quick pass with damp paper towel showed an accumulation of grime that made my stomach flip over. (Reported to owner and followed up again next day, no response.) Spent half a day washing and cleaning to make it inhabitable.
Overall: It was Spartan, drab, and not clean. Felt like the house was prepared for unruly teenagers to descend upon and destroy the place. We paid a high cleaning fee, but feel that we should have been paid for all the cleaning that we had to do when we arrived. Believe the bad reviews. We didn’t and found out for ourselves. We have pictures.

Great location, very spacious rooms, tidy
This place has nice hosts and a great housekeeper. Roomy house right on the parking lot for Onekahakaha Beach Park. A rare find. Other beautiful beaches are just a short drive away. We saw six or seven big green sea turtles and good snorkeling at a black sand beach just down the road.

Fantastic location
Perfect location for a family with young children. The tide pools across the parking lot are great for kids . The house had a good amount of space for all 8 of us. Because it’s near some standing water , there were quite a few bugs and ants that made their way into the house during our stay (But it was clean on initial check in). Recommend especially for location !

Great beach house
This house has an amazing location. A short walk and you are right on the park beach. It is great for kids. The house itself was very comfortable and had everything that we needed. We had a great time!

Great location and house but no hot water
The house is in a great location, right across the street from a great swimming beach with rock pools and turtles and only 5 min drive to downtown Hilo. The house was clean and spacious, but the hot water was tepid at best and communication with the owner was non-existent apart from the day we arrived, when she was very responsive.

The Beach House was wonderful, It is in a great location, we had an excellent time here
The Beach house was spacious and there was plenty of room for our family to unwind and hang out. It is well taken care of and all the amenities promised, including wifi, worked well. We had a small problem the first night of our stay that was quickly taken care of by Marin, who oversees the house for the owners. She was invaluable in making our stay here an excellent one. The Ocean Park where the house is located is wonderful, One tidepool is shallow and sandy for younger kids, the second pool is great for snorkeling and always has a turtle ( or 6 )in it: Both Pools are well protected form ocean currents. From the beach house you can drive an hour (or far less) in any direction and see volcanoes, black sand beaches, surfing beaches, amazing night skies on Mauna Kea, waterfalls , deserts and jungle. We enjoyed our visit to the Big Island very much and reccomend the beach house as a great place to stay on the Hilo side.
