Only negative thing was that there was coffee packet by the coffee maker one of our three nights. Otherwise everything was great.
Just the coffee thing.

Location was amazimg.
Room could of been a little nicer.

Location was convenient.
Staff that checked us in was nice.
In a 6-person, 3 "bedroom" suite, one bedroom didn't have air conditioning, one had barely working air conditioning, and one had pretty good air conditioning.
Mattress was mediocre at best.
4.0 / 10.0
location, proximity of beaches
The room was very much different from the picture. The queen size bed was actually double size, that is rather small for two people. "Garden view" was mostly the rooftop.

It was a handy location for the things we wanted to do and we were fortunate enough to be there when Mauna Loa erupted and see it for ourselves. You could also see the plume of the volcano from where we were. We were also in training for the Honolulu marathon and there was plenty of room to go for runs in the area. We took the tour they run to the summit of Mauna Kea and that was a great experience and Donna was a fantastic tour guide.
To be honest I was a bit taken aback driving through the area to where we were staying and was apologising to my wife for the really depressing location I’d chosen! The town of Hilo is a bit of a dump particularly the industrial area near which the lodge is located. I also did not feel comfortable letting my wife walk around the area by herself - there were many very sketchy people walking the streets. The actual lodge site is ok and in a slightly better area near some small beaches. We knew that we were going to be sharing a kitchen but we totally unprepared for the size of our inaccurately named “deluxe” queen room. Literally big enough for a bed. No where to store clothes or suitcases. Bathroom very small but we could deal with that except every time you flush the toilet it sounds like a plane taking off. Everything the people said or did in the rooms next door could be heard…
Kitchen had one saucepan, a microwave and some badly washed plates, cups and utensils. They have coin operated washing machines and dryers which is fine but you need to compete with the lodge staff who use the very same machines to wash sheets etc. Ludicrous!
Oh and it rains here a lot, practically every day.

Does not worth the price paid.
Noisy flat, dirty room, old styled sheets.
No any soap or shampoo provided.

quiet and comfortable (in deluxe queen room) - a great base for a weeks stay. you need a car for getting around.
the lodge is a little rundown but totally comfortable.

The ambiance was like a cool base camp for adventures! Steps from the ocean. Rain falling at night while the coqui frogs chirp lulls you right sleep. It was cozy and clean. Meeting campers from Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Austria was also neat!
A tiny complaint. The pillows could have been fluffier? Other than that...a clean well kept place!

The staff member that I met upon arriving went above and beyond during my stay. In addition, I liked how the facility was a community focused facility rather than the typical hotel room 'stay in your room' feel.
The bathroom was a bit small and its decor (tile work) was dated, but I didn't live in it.

Everything was very clean. Shower was super clean and spacious. Patrick the guard was very helpful and friendly. Loved the common area. The wood benches were beautiful. We stayed in a suite of rooms next to my brothers family and we opened our front doors and patio doors to let breeze go through and to be able to chat freely. It was so nice to cook and meet in common area to eat.
I would have loved a nonstick pan, sharp knives and a bigger cutting board. It would have been cool to have some basics like some coffee filters and a little ground coffee and salt and pepper.
