About this chalet rental
Alpine Chalet #3 Full Loft
Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'
This inviting one-bedroom Otter Rock vacation rental is a restful home base to explore the stunning Oregon Coast. A private trail leads to the beach (about a five minute trek altogether), and this beautiful stretch of sand is perfect for long walks, flying kites, and running with the dogs.
This lovely loft sits within the Alpine Chalets community, a collection of A-frame cottages located on a secluded bluff above alluring Beverly Beach. The salty spray of the ocean breeze is only steps from your front door, but if you feel the need to venture farther, Newport and all its attractions are only eight miles to the south for shopping and dining, while Otter Rock's handful of restaurants are just half a mile away.
Wood beams running overhead and hardwood floors add elements of a mountain-style ambiance inside this cozy chalet. The window in the comfortable living room is a portal to a gorgeous ocean view, and on clear afternoons fills the chalet with sunshine.
Snuggle on the striped couch and watch your favorite flicks on the TV, which includes a DVD player and cable. Arrange puzzles and board games on the flowery rug, or use the wireless Internet access to research top seafood restaurants for dinner. Regardless of how you choose to spend your day, you will feel right at home in this cheerful loft!
The living area opens into the full kitchen, which includes a refrigerator, stove-top/oven and microwave. Bring back fresh ingredients to prepare your favorite seafood cuisine or prepare a picnic lunch to eat on the beach - there are plates, cups, bowls and glasses to suit all your vacation meals. Enjoy family dinners at the wooden dining table that seats six, or host a summer barbecue at the Alpine Chalets community picnic area when the sun is shining.
For guests who don't care to brave the stairs, there is one bedroom on the first floor and a full bath with tub/shower combo. The queen-sized bed with comfortable floral bedding is a peaceful repose for a refreshing night's slumber. As the only bedroom on the floor, it's perfect for guests who are early risers and looking forward to a morning walk on the beach.
When you do climb up to the loft, you'll find a nook that's ideal for the kids to have their own space or for guests who don't mind a little less elbow room. Reminisce about the days activities and plan tomorrow's adventures when you're falling asleep in the two twin beds in the corner. On the other side of the loft there is a comfy sofa and second TV for some extra living space.
Altogether, six guests can happily share this charming Oregon Coast vacation rental. There's no need to bid a sad farewell to your furry friends because up to two dogs can accompany you on your vacation (though a nightly fee per dog and a minimum fee per stay will apply).
Nestled among pine trees with extraordinary ocean views, this secluded loft is an escape into nature that captures the inherent raw beauty of the Oregon Coast.
If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already included in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to pets. No more dogs are allowed.
Parking notes: There is free parking available for 2 vehicles.
Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) Our vacation at Otter Rock Chalet was cut short due to the conditions of the facility that VACASA offered us.
Our reservation check-in date was May 16, checkout May 19 (3 nights)
We checkout out at 4:00am on May 17 staying only 1 night due to the conditions.
The stove top only had 1 burner element that worked, water pressure in the bathroom was very little, the flooring is coming up and severely damaged, the bedding appeared dirty. (we slepted that night in our cloths).
We did not shower for obvious reasons prior to our departure the morning of May17.
The room was not available at check-in time due to the room not ready yet per housekeeping. (4:00pm) We were allowed to check in at 5:00pm
We would have left without staying 1 night but we just drove 6 ½ hours to reach Otter Rock from Pasco, WA.
There broken cabinets, filthy refrigerator door seal, filthy oven, filthy kitchen overhead lighting, stained dish towel found folded on the kitchen counter, and side of the refrigerator had some dried substance.
There were “many” food items left in the cabinets from previous guest that we didn’t trust to use. “Not good and disgusting”. It appears other reviews about this property have been negative and VACASA reply back were that these issues will be addressed. Obviously, the reviews have been ignored.
We are requesting a refund for the unused nights that were not used (May 17 & 18).
Note: My wife and I have stayed at the Alpine Chalets on many occasions and were completely happy with the facility. This was the first time we stay since 2012.

It was overpriced for what it was - not enough bedding for the pullout (had to go buy sheets and blankets) and there was dog hair everywhere when we arrived. The toilet downstairs was leaking and the whole place smelled like mildew. Not what we expected for over $500.

Clean sheets and dishes. Some of the needed repairs make the bathroom cold.

We have stayed in Chalet #3 before, and while it’s never been fancy (understatement), it’s a lot worse now through a combination of structural degradation and poor management by Vacasa. Others have commented on the slant of the chalet. This is no exaggeration. There is a visible crack through the place and serous settling has occurred to the point that it’s questionable as to it being sound for a rental. The bathroom has settled (watch your step!) and the flooring is squishy. The shower door doesn’t fit right anymore. The settling aside, Vacasa hasn’t repaired the stove that many others have commented on. Only two burners work. The screen door doesn’t shut properly. The place smells musty. We aren’t picky—but this place is gross. When we arrived, the bathroom flooring was damp. Oh, and don’t expect WiFi. It never worked for us. My advice: money better spent elsewhere.

Location and the caretaker Lance was awesome

Was a great location for family . House was older then pictures show. Very quiet & nice beach.
4.0 / 5.0
The location was wonderful. Our family rented 5 units and the experience was great. This unit was the most outdated and in need of improvements. Only half the burners on the stove were working. The floors were uneven, we had two elder family members stay in this unit who said they had to be mindful in walking around. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The groundskeeper was wonderful. Lance more than made up for issues with the cabin.

We love staying at the alpine chalets. First time in this unit. Everything was great except the unit is clearly settling. The floors are noticeably slanted and every time we sat on the toilet it felt like it was going to come off the floor. Also the stove only worked one or two burners at a time. We aren’t fancy or picky so we still loved being here. The fridge smelled terrible like old fish. Overall these are things to consider if you like “perfect” accommodations. For us it was still perfect even with what others may consider as major flaws or safety concerns. Literally. You could not bring marbles here. They would roll away. When filling the sink it all pooled to one side. Like the floor is extremely noticeably slanted. We still loved it.

Just to let you know, the bathroom floor is uneven. There is a long area rug that covers over that area, so just be aware that it is there so you won't stumble.

Do not recommend
This place is so dirty and dingy. Stairs are a nightmare. Uncomfortable beds, appliances that don’t work. Can’t believe I spent $367 to stay here, it’s definitely not worth it. The only good thing I would say is the private beach. Owners should take more pride in their rentals. Rugs have probably NEVER been washed nor have the blankets. Couch was disgusting!!

Great location; unit needs updating
Super location--walk to the beach, close to trails and restaurants. The caretaker and housekeeper were friendly and helpful. The unit itself, however, was borderline. Only three burners on the stove worked--and one needed coaxing. The microwave start button does not work. There were way too many chairs in the dining area, as though the owners store them there. The floors are uneven, but the listing mentions that. The blinds over the front windows need to be replaced. They are broken and pathetic-looking. Only three of four drape panels over the front windows were there, so we had no privacy. We had a lovely time in the area, but we really felt for the kind of money we paid, the place should have been better.

Ok for price!
Couple of things were broken- only one burner worked on the stove and the cable wasn’t working but over all our family had a great time accessing the private beach!

Not clean at all
The counters were sticky, so was the floor. There was mold and mildew around the kitchen sink. The microwave didn't work. The t.v. remote didn't work either did the DVD player. There were beard hairs in the upstairs bathroom sink.... should I go on.
The staff was unsympathetic.

Cold with Dirty carpets
All the carpets were filthy and smelled like wet dog. They did not appear to be vacuumed at any point in the recent past. The carpets should either be cleaned better and more often or just thrown away. The thermostat for most of the house was broken, as was the space heater left upstairs. I slept in the upstairs bedroom on the first night and woke up feeling cold many times throughout the night. The thermostat in the downstairs bedroom was the only heater we were able to get working. There was a trash barrel down by the beach access that was overflowing with dog poop bags. It smelled horrible when walking past and was never emptied in the time I was there. The location was great and we had a wonderful time exploring the beaches and nearby attractions . The house was really disappointing.

This is our second time staying at Alpine Chalets. The location is perfect for us as we love watching for whales in Depoe Bay, visiting Newport and exploring Devil's Punch Bowl State Park and Lincoln City. When we reserve our future stay, I will be sure to choose a different unit at Alpine Chalets as #3 has structural, mechanical and accommodation challenges I am not willing to deal with in the future. This unit, #3, has some drawbacks when compared to the other units. Mainly the severely uneven floors, 2 wall heating units that did not work, and the horrendous hide-away bed located upstairs (I did not check the one downstairs in the main room). The floor was very uneven. It took a few days to get used to. Seriously it was pretty bad. My 7, 4 and 2 year old fell several times and I nearly did too as the pitch was extremely slanted due to settling. This place would have been far too dangerous for elderly or those with any challenges on their feet! It felt like being on a boat for the first couple of days. The in-wall heating units did not work in the upstairs or in the main room. Thus the only source of heat was the wall unit in the main floor bedroom and the wall unit in the bathroom located in the main bedroom!! Two portable heating units were available but ironically one of those didn't work either! My children sleeping upstairs ended up being okay as we brought extra blankets, but it would definitely not be warm enough in the winter months. The hide-away bed upstairs was horrendous! Crumbs fell out when was opened up and it was the worst pull out bed I have ever slept on! It obviously hadn't been cleaned in a long time and my guess is that it was at least 40 years old! We found a few items left behind from previous renters which backs my belief it hadn't been sanitized in a long time. You also need to know that the stairs are very steep and more like a ladder than stairs. My kids did well, but my 2 year old did fall a couple times. We knew this prior to booking our stay but this could be a deal breaker for the less nimble! We love this location and the Alpine Chalets are great! Do yourself a favor and choose any except#3!

Great location, easy check in, but pretty dirty and needs better maintenance.
In short, this was a very good location that was quiet, with easy access to the beach and other activities. We had zero problems with check in and the unit has all the basics. We loved that it had a full kitchen so we could cook meals. It's a decent little place in the regard. We had no problems with the management but we didn't interact with them at all. We didn't really feel a need to.
However, when it came to the cleanliness of the place, overall we found it pretty gross. We took off our shoes (as requested by owner) and after 30 min, everyone's socks were black on the bottom. There was dog hair in ALL the sheets and on some towels. Also, there is mold in the shower and around the sink. The furniture was VERY old and dirty. I didn't expect high end top notch stuff, but it could be a million times better with some basic more clean couches and chairs. The overhead fan in the bathroom looks like it's never been cleaned. You would think that just re-doing the caulking and doing a bit of some basic upkeep would be a priority. If I were the owner, I'd be really embarrassed.
Even though we loved the location, we won't book again due to the lack of care of the place. Just too yucky. If the owner did an overhaul with some of the things I mentioned above, they would probably get a lot better reviews.

Love location and beaches. Only thing wrong with this chalet is it feels somewhat slanted, like when you get off a cruise and feel like you’re still on the ship. Have to hang onto walls, etc. until you get used to it!

Want to take your dogs to the beach???
We were looking for a holiday trip that we could bring our dogs along and the chalet fit the bill perfectly!! We brought two labs. The decor is a little dated, but simple and hands down perfect when traveling with the dogs. We arrived and the place was clean and tidy. (There was some sand under the cushion of the pull out couch cushions. But hey, you are at the beach!)
Awesome private walk to the beach. This is located within walking distance to Devil's Punch Bowl and down to Beverly Beach...with your dog!
The units are separate, so your noises are contained and don't hear your neighbors.
We locked ourselves out and the property manager was great at giving us the back up lock box code to the spare key. Hmmm, we must have not been the first to do this?
And did I mention they allow dogs!

Small dog friendly Chalet
We were greeted by Lance the grounds caretaker and informed us about the property and such. The cabin was small and clean, the stairs to the second level are steep and similar to a ladder. Our dog could go up but needed carried down. Floor has some slope and chalet shows some age. The outside is well cared for and nice flowers in front. The trees have grown up so just a view of the ocean and no beach.
We enjoyed our stay but will search for another place next time we are in the area.

Horrible
It was really gross. The place was not clean. Crumbs and sand on the floor. There was black mold along the baseboard. It smelled damp, musty and the odor is still difficult to get off of my clothes. There was dried food in the placemats. There was a torn cover to a DVD behind the TV. I paid close to 100 in cleaning fees and entered a disgustingly dirty unit. None of the plugs in the downstairs bathroom gave any power. The outlet where the upstairs TV was plugged in, only one of the plugs had power. The plug upstairs behind the bed was crooked behind the plate and sunk into the wall when you tried to plug into it.
Outlets did not work, the stove was broken and burners did not work. There were no screens on two of the windows. Several windows the blinds were broken off. The front curtain rod was snapped in the middle and did not have a clasp at the end.
I called as soon as I arrived, (waited 15 mins to talk to someone). I stated my concerns and asked to be moved. I was told I would get a call back. 2 hours later I called again (11 mins to talk to someone). I was told that they have had complaints about that unit before regarding the blinds. They told me they would call a manager and arrange to have the cleaning lady call me in the morning. (NO ONE CALLED BACK) I waited all day on day two for a call and no one called me. I called again in the evening (Waited 30 mins to talk to a live person) They said they were going to contact the unit owner and have that person call me. (NO ONE CALLED BACK) I called once more in the morning before I left. I was on hold for 45 mins. Never spoke with anyone. I left a lengthy message handwritten on the counter. I took pictures, video. This was no way to spend my vacation. I still have yet to hear any response.
I am still waiting for a call back. Supposedly Vacasa manages these properties. They are doing a horrible job. Customer service is awful. The unit was awful and I paid more money than what I got in return. I deserve a response. I paid close to $400 for 2 nights for crap.

Not worth the money
The property itself is gorgeous, but the unit we rented was FAR from clean. I get that maybe a little sand when you walk in the door of a beach condo is expected... MAYBE... but when there is blackened soap scum in the shower, dirty counters, and even the sink was still dirty, I question the cleanliness of everything else. There are full time residents here, so you're expected to be quiet from 9 pm till 7 am.... not to mention you can't have your family come meet you at the condo without getting prior permission.... I would say that this is not much of a vacation rental as it is like a permanent rental. We were told to expect a plumber to show up our first day but instead, they showed up at 9 am on our last day (which means we were told we would have two bathrooms but ended up with only one, located in the master bedroom, for most of our stay). We are late to bed at night, so late sleepers... and we were NOT happy to be woken up what is early for us while on vacation. We spent FAR more than it was worth to stay there for two nights. I know that I will be spending an EXTRA $200 per night next time to stay somewhere cleaner, and more like a VACATION home. I will say that the grounds maintenance staff were informative, friendly, and helpful... but... that was the only good thing I have to say about my experience...

Lots of fun at the beach!
Only a few minutes north of Newport, these chalets are really cute, with great beach access, and a great beach! Chalet #3 has a bedroom downstairs, plus two beds and a sofa couch upstairs. The stairs are really steep. My girls loved it, but wouldn't be good for babies or people with mobility issues. Bathroom with shower downstairs, 2nd bathroom upstairs. Kitchen could be better stocked - only 2 dish towels, and 2 dishwasher pods. Not enough when you are there for 4 days. Cupboard had some vegetable oil, a pepper shaker, and an empty salt shaker (I bought salt and filled it). Just really minimal. Unit does not have a washer/dryer, but does have a dishwasher. We would stay again!
