Applegate beach house is totally wonderful. The upstairs living quarters are incredibly homey, the proximity to Otter Rock beach perfect, and the warm water outdoor shower after surfing truly transcendent. My stay was a truly amazing, one-of-a-kind experience. It is fantastic to be "home" after a long surf session and not have to load up surfboards and drive somewhere. I can't wait to do it again!

Apple gate beach house is a wonderful cottage within a very short walk from Devil’s Punch Bowl. House is equipped with an outdoor shower, ideal for rinsing off from the beach. Perfect for a family. We look forward to returning.

The home was perfect for us. Very cozy. It was nice to be able to bring our doggie. There was unforgiving rain, so we just played cards and walked the dog. No visits to the beach, but it was so close! The yard was so nice. Loved all the colors. Thank you for sharing this sweet home.

We had issues with the smart lock as the access code didn't work. After 20 minutes on the phone we were given the code for a lock box with a key in it. Codes never worked.

Good though I don’t understand the Vrbo surcharge and 60 fee for the second dog.
This resulted in going outside our budget .

I chose this property primarily because the yard was fenced, and I could safely let my dog off leash. This was not the case. I was very disappointed to find the fence in the condition it was in.
Fence aside, it's a lovely property and was a very comfortable stay.

The
Location was great and it was nice quiet neighborhood.

The home is cozy with peek a boo views of the ocean. It’s close proximity to so many different activities makes it a win! There’s no question that we will stay here again and again.
Our only issue was the kitchen sink didn’t drain at all and when we reached out to Vacasa they suggested I get a plunger and try that. I was in shock. We had just arrived and with all the fees Vacasa tacks on it should not be a guests job to unclog showers and sinks. The upstairs shower liner was covered in mold as well. They did show up and got it addressed. But that was due to my suggesting it should not be a guests job to unclog previous guests messes. On a scale of 1-10 I’d say the cleanliness was a 7 and that is generous. But again that falls on Vacasa not the home or owners. Next time we will be prepared and bring our own vacuum and cleaner ro wipe things down.

The house is in a great location for being able to walk to the devils punch bowl and down to the beach. Also was a nice central place to be able to move up and down the coast.

Love the location, beautiful views of the coast, very comfortable stay.

The house is wonderful. I would caution Adults that the twin trundle is probably better served to kids. The location is pretty darned hard to beat.
The check-in / ownership company leaves a bit to be desired. They did not leave a key and we had to wait almost an hour past check in time to get our vacation started. Most of that time I was waiting on hold just to talk to someone. This was not a Vrbo issue, as they were booking this listing through another servicing company.

It started off terrible because it took us 45 minutes to get in the place due to poor instructions for entering code. That really set the mood for the first day which was not good. The location is wonderful, and we have stayed in Otter Rock many times, but first time in this house. Things just didn't feel clean and tidy. Dirty sofa which we purchased a sheet to cover, and curtains were falling down. The one south facing window is horrible so not a great view. We had to clean up some food to get ride of ants. Needs a bit if TLC and the place would be great.

Beaching Home
Cute little home that had enough room for the kids to run and play. Fenced backyard that needs some repair but there was a chain outside for my dog which was awesome! Had the necessary things needed for our family to enjoy our vacation

We loved being able to walk to two different beaches! This is a comfy home for a small group. Very nice yard for the doggo.

Great Location, House Needs Work
We just got back from a beautiful week at Otter Rock. The positives about this house: Location. You are just a few minutes walk from either tide pools, a big beach and the Devil's Punchbowl overlook, this was the best part for us. There is also a small Mo's and Cliffside Coffee Shop (the staff was so sweet) right around the corner. Fenced yard. This was great for our dog who doesn't like to potty on a leash. New washer and dryer, an essential when going to the beach with kids. We actually found check in/check out with Vacasa pretty easy via text. They were responsive when we had issues. Now the not-so-great: This house is in desperate need of a refresh and better cleaning/maintenance. When we first checked in everything seemed pretty clean (I was worried because of some reviews I'd read). But then a couple days in we started noticing more. There are ants. There are bait traps all around the house which seem to be working but we found stragglers in the kitchen, bathrooms and the worst, in our beds. The fenced yard has huge gaps in the boards, if you had a small dog they could easily get out. When we first got there I went out in the yard with our dog. It was littered with piles of dog poop from previous renters and the grass was too long to walk through without getting soaked. My kids couldn't play out there. All the furniture seems like scratch-n-dent finds. The living room set up didn't comfortably hold even my small family and the sofa just felt dirty. No coffee table or place to put your feet up. Holes in bedding. A couple nights in the fire alarm right outside our children's bedroom started randomly chirping. (This really freaks out our dog and kids) Vacasa sent maintenance over with a new battery promptly. But then it started again the next night and then ALL the alarms went off at 2am. Not refreshing. There were other cleanliness issues. Long hairs in the "clean" folded towels. When I was collecting trash at checkout I discovered a trash can in the single bed bedroom with USED diapers in it from previous people. That's just gross. I let Vacasa know of these issues and they responded with a canned "we'll let maintenance know" response. After spending over a thousand dollars that's not really good enough. We would definitely not recommend this property unless it had a serious rehaul.

My family eats a lot of toast and there was no toaster. Except for the toaster we would give five stars, lovely comfortable home, very clean.

Nightmare on Coast
We were taking a very special 20 days at Oregon Coast. Arrived at House to discover: 1Very dirty house, very dirty shabby furniture (supposedly there was a cover for the dirty couch finally found wadded up in a ball in closet and it was filthy), BBQ was filthy. Gal came and cleaned, but main line to the 3 gas areas was corroded and falling apart. Dish was came loose from sink area. Gentalman came and fixed and informed us they were short handed and he had to service 60 properties himself. Main window with beautiful ocean view had broken seals and you really counted see much out of it. Had friends come to dinner and took off shoes and their white socks were almost black. This was such a disappointing vacation, I feel that we are entitled to some kind of remuneration. There were other things like it was supposed to have a back porch, no outside chairs, deck was about 4 x 8 and dirty. Please respond back. Ronald Oldemeyer

10:00 Checkout time is too early
The house is great. 10:00 checkout time is too early. I've never had to check out of anywhere before 11:00. Vacasa needs to allow extending the reservation later than 4 days before arrival. Needs to allow late checkout later than 4 days before arrival.

Great place, could be better managed
This is a great location with an outdoor hot shower. We enjoyed our stay. However, the dishwasher never worked and no one replied at the two different numbers we contacted about it. There were some hair balls that made there way from under the couch so it could have been better cleaned. Check out time was stated in the book as 11am but someone arrived at 10am asserting that it was in fact 10am. I showed her the book and she apologized and let us continue packing up. Nice place but had to mention the oddities we encountered with respect to the management.

Lovely place with great access/needs maintenance
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was very comfortable with a nice view and good yard for our dog. Access to the beach is a seriously strenuous set of stairs. Dishwasher did not work, nor did the cable for TV. Kitchen was otherwise well-appointed and beds were comfortable.

We just loved this place. Plenty of room and a huge, well fenced backyard for our two dogs. Easy walk to the beach and Devil’s Punchbowl. There is a seasonal Mo’s Seafood and a coffee/candy shop a block or two away. Easy short drive south to Newport, or a few minutes north to Depoe Bay. This home had everything we needed and it was so peaceful and comfortable. Loved the upstairs living area. Each floor has its own sleeping area and bathroom. The only thing we were uncomfortable with were the tiny ants in the house. We left the dog dishes out overnight upstairs, and woke up to an unbelievable amount of ants. We were not able to keep any food out on the kitchen counters during our stay which was a bummer. I did call Vacasa and they were quick to respond to the ant issue and dealt with it in a pet friendly way. Only saw a few stragglers the balance of our stay. I did appreciate at how quick Vacasa responded. We would love to stay here again, as we did love our stay, and such a great place for the dogs.

nice but could easily be better with a little TLC
very convenient location. Comfortable. Poor dining chairs. All throw-rugs slip on the floor easily. Dishwasher leaked all over the floor and was out of service. No cable TV. Smoke alarm at top of stairs not functional. Fire extinguisher 2 years out of date. TV remote not working.

Great beach access
We had two infants and a toddler staying with us and it was great to have the beach access so close. Also, there was an excellent backyard for our dog to run in and the toddler to have some fun also.

Potentially a great spot, property management extremely poor
This property is managed by Vacasa!! This is a HUGE company. I have used them previously without any issue. However, when I arrived at my check in time, the house was completely filthy. Beds were still soiled, gooey countertops, used coffee grounds, etc. This was just one week after the Coast began opening after Covid-19 restrictions. I was guaranteed not only a clean, but especially clean house with "new" guidelines in effect for proper sanitizing.
We arrived at 4 pm. Not only was it completely dirty, the wi-fi password did not work and I had difficulty finding the property owner's phone number. Once I was able to call a friend and have them look it up (again, Vacasa) there was a 2 HOUR WAIT JUST TO SPEAK with SOMEONE!!! 2 HOURS!!!
Needless to say, we decided to flee and attempt to find another place to stay.
I finally was able to leave a message and received a reply via text message the next morning at 630 am. I'm sorry. But this is unacceptable for a property manager. There should never be a time that a manager is so completely overwhelmed that the people using the rentals cannot even contact a person directly and receive a response 14 hours later!
To make it even more frustrating, it took multiple phone calls, time spent waiting, and then several follow up emails just to confirm that I will be receiving a refund. This is the good news in all this mess. A full refund. Yay! However, I cannot recommend using this property management group again and would strongly encourage home owners to do their research. There are MANY instances of issues with Vacasa documented online. If everything goes smoothly without a hitch you're probably going to be fine, but don't expect ANY help in a TIMELY manner, or even being able to get a hold of an actual person.

Shelter in place
We had a wonderful time here. It was a perfect place to socially distance ourselves from other people. Walking on the beach, cooking dinners for ourselves... it was a lovely and relaxing place to endure the apocalypse.

Stay at Otter Rock
We loved the location and the house. It was perfect for our Otter Crest reunion. There was a small ant problem in the living room / kitchen area. There was a line of them along the south and west lower walls. Also, the toaster wouldn't keep the bread down. We would definitely recommend the place and stay there again.
