About this house rental
The Spy House is rich with history and has been lovingly updated by Its owner. It was built in the 1880s in the Federal style and has been adapted for modern living with an open-concept living room and kitchen.
Any cook will feel at home in the well-appointed eat-in kitchen. You can enjoy a relaxing meal around the large handmade farm table. You will find a heavy-duty gas stove, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops.
The home features three bathrooms. The primary bathroom features a vintage clawfoot tub, the upstairs guest bathroom a shower, and the first-floor bathroom features a bespoke shower and vanity. Each of the three bedrooms has a comfortable queen-sized bed.
The house is situated on Camp Hill, which is less than a ten-minute walk to downtown historic Harpers Ferry and the train station. There is no downside to being so close to the action as even on the busiest of days in town, it remains quiet at the Spy House.
One of the house's former residents was suspected of being a spy for Germany, investigated and arrested by the FBI in 1945, and soon after pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit espionage; hence the name, the Spy House.
To complete your booking you must sign our Rental Agreement (which will be sent to you electronically) and provide a copy of your photo ID (e.g., valid driver’s license or passport). With those two items taken care of, you will be sent an email containing instructions for checking in the week of your stay.

This is a cozy and lovely home with plenty of space. The kitchen is really nice and well stocked, the sitting areas are comfortable and the front porch is a great place to sit and enjoy the neighborhood. The bedrooms are all large and very comfortable. The location can't be beat. It's very convenient walking distance to everything in the town of Harper's Ferry as well as the Appalachian Trail etc....
We would love to come back!

What a fabulous place to stay! Charming, comfortable, and super clean. Plenty of space to spread out, a great backyard, and easy access to the Trail if you are hiking. Jay was very helpful and attentive, checking in with us on arrival and throughout our stay. Super comfy bed, great water pressure, large washer and dryer, well stocked kitchen...we would stay here again in a heartbeat!

This property is perfect! My daughters and 1 granddaughter had a great vacation there. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed.

Three of us enjoyed our stay at the Spy House. Walking distance to town, but also Storer College, where we caught a concert on the lawn one afternoon. The house had everything we needed and it was quiet and well-equipped. Jay was responsive and checked in on us. Beds were comfortable and thermostat was easy to use. Plus, we all got some writing done! Would stay here again!

What a find! Clean, comfortable and convenient. The house has charm, modern amenities, big flat backyard, wifi, and easy parking. We played the board games that were there, and I enjoyed the travel guides and books. It's great to be able to walk around (hilly, but that makes for great scenery) - we especially enjoyed Bolivar Bakery, Snallygasters restaurant, and whitewater rafting (Harpers Ferry Adventure Center). We'd definitely stay here again.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Spy House! It’s an absolutely perfect location in Harper’s Ferry to see and do everything. The house itself was so comfortable and perfect for a relaxing get away. The home reminded us of our former historic home and I was so impressed by the lovely decorative touches, and historic nature of the home with all of its charm was maintained with the perfect updates to make it comfortable for modern tastes. We had such an amazing experience and we will definitely be back and be telling our friends to stay at the Spy House for their next getaway!

The house is wonderful. Very clean. The kitchen was nicely stocked with glassware and cookware. The location is perfect. We were just a short walk from town. Beds were comfortable, which is so appreciated! We will recommend!

From the helpfulness of the owner to the comfort of the property, this was a perfect stay! One of the most comfortable places we have stayed -- an old house, modest size, but nicely renovated with attention to detail, from the kitchen, to the bathrooms, to the beds, to the seating to decor. Cozy even in a snowy January stay! The area has a lot to do and see. We hope to return to the Spy House in the future!

The Spy House was a great base in Harpers Ferry. Easy walking distance to everything - I definitely recommend Bolivar Bread - but on a quiet street. Everything inside was spotless and recently updated. The kitchen was well stocked and the den was a great space to curl up with a good book on a rainy day. I would definitely stay there again.

The Spy house is a lovely place. You can tell that Jay has put a lot of yime and energy into this house. The house is so cozy and the space is well used. We enjoyed our stay. It was so close yo everything we wanted to do. Jay was very thoughtful in what is provided for his guests, & is great with communication. We would love to go back sometime!!

Our family of four enjoyed our stay at Jay's home. The home is very cozy and is located on a charming street in Harper's Ferry. The location is great with it being only a short walk to the lower town and AT hiking trails.
The bedrooms are spacious and my kids enjoyed having their very own queen size bed. Check-in was a breeze and Jay was an excellent host. Communication was great and he would text to make sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay again.

We have used VRBO many times over the years , and this property ranks at the top of our list ! It is absolutely perfect ! We walked to town and to many local attractions, the neighborhood is quiet and very safe. The inside of the home was spotless, and having 3 bathrooms/ 3 bedrooms was such a bonus !! We had a minor question, and Jay promptly answered our text, which is extremely important to us..If you are planning on visiting Harper's Ferry, do not hesitate to rent this home !!

We had a wonderful time, despite it being a rainy weekend! The house was close enough to walk to town and well stocked-we appreciated the cozy blankets, family games, and tea selections! We have 2 grade school boys and our host made some great suggestions for activities. The Aldi near by was very convenient. Thank you for hosting us!

Went to Harpers Ferry with my wife and another couple for 3 days. Jay was a pleasure to deal with; from offering suggestions for local wineries and restaurants, confirming all was ok at the house, even asking for constructive criticism about spyhouse. There is no criticism I could offer as the house is well stocked, tastefully appointed and updated, all within walking distance to downtown Harpers Ferry. Highly recommend this house if one is looking to stay in Harpers Ferry

Besides an excellent location, the rental is roomy and homey. The kitchen has everything you could want; it is extremely well stocked. Jay is an excellent host and responded quickly the first night to explain how to lock the door to the backyard patio. The 5 of us were very happy with out stay at the Spy House.

The house was perfect for our friends, with 3 comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked to handle our needs. Overall the house was a perfect location, within walking distance of downtown Harpers Ferry, so much history, and great food/drinks. In addition, the communication by property owner was exceptional.

You cannot get much closer to lower Harpers Ferry, and a spacious house like this. Very short walk, cute little town.
The house was perfectly clean and had everything necessary. It was just as described and reviewed.
And the owner was a pleasure to work with. I would definitely stay here again.

This property was just as described.
Great communication from the owner and all of his recommendations were spot on. I definitely asked him a lot of questions about the area and he knew it all.
The house is just close enough we could walk into town but far enough away it was a peaceful place to be.
The rooms we’re comfortable and the kitchen was perfect for us but everyone’s favorite part was the updated first floor bathroom. We were definitely fighting over use of that shower after a long day in the sun.
We would 100% return again.

The owner Jay was very responsive. He let us know if we needed anything that he was available. We were 2 couples visiting Antietam and Harpers Ferry. The house is super clean. Beds were comfy and linens were very nice. We only made breakfast there, but the kitchen was fully stocked if we wanted to do more cooking. We really enjoyed our time at the Spy House.

I stayed at Jay's property with three friends and my partner and had a great experience. Our group included an 18-month-old child and Jay made every effort to ensure we were all comfortable. He was very communicative throughout the process, provided clear and simple instructions for check-in and check-out, and made sure the house was spotless for us. The house itself is fantastic – everyone in our group praised my choice of lodging – and it's located literally right next to the charming downtown of Harpers Ferry. I hope to visit again and highly recommend the Spy House!

Spy House in Harper's Ferry was absolutely perfect. The home was meticulously clean and well appointed for our stay. Located in a quiet neighborhood it provided relaxing and comfortable downtime for my family during a very busy wedding weekend. Jay, the home owner, provided us with very clear check-in and check-out instructions, as well as, helpful dining options. Anyone traveling to Harper's Ferry should consider Spy House first! I honestly can't think of a single thing I could suggest to improve our stay.

We arrived little late on Fri. All the instructions that were provided by Jay were crystal clear. House was clean and immaculate. I loved the decor, but more importantly how the historical character of the house was retained with the modern updates! Entire family was wow'ed upon arriving. This was the perfect getaway from every day hassle. Historical downtown is only half a mile away, with hiking, tubing for family activities, while plenty of wineries for adults short distance away. The only negative would be that the trip was so short lived! :) thank you Jay for your hospitality and for your prompt responses. I will recommend this to anyone with a family or a group of friends that need a quick getaway for the weekend or more. We will be visiting this property again in the future again!

Our family of 4 stayed here for a quick vacation before the kids went back to school. The house is very close to Harper's Ferry. It was actually closer than we thought once we realized exactly where we were. The neighborhood is quiet. We enjoyed drinking our coffee on the front porch in the mornings. Will stay here again.

We had a wonderful time at the Spy House in Harpers Ferry! The location is amazing -- an easy walk into the historic Lower Town and also an easy distance from restaurants and shops on the Bolivar side of town. Jay was a wonderful host and made great recommendations for food and entertainment. The house was perfect for our family group -- loved that each room had a queen sized bed and having the TV room separate from the main living area helped make sure everyone had their own space. Hope to be back again next year!

Jay was a fantastic and responsive host. The house was great for hanging out in and the perfect location to walk to food, historic sites, and shops.
4.8
The house is completely remodeled inside. The owner (Jay) is responsive and the house has everything you would even think of needing (to include games). My husband and I went with another couple and we don’t have a single complaint. We plan to rent this house again every year and also this fall.

The property was lovely and Jay was a wonderful host!

This house has been lovingly remodeled and everything was well done! First, cleanliness was top notch…something rolled behind the couch and there wasn’t even any dust behind furniture. The sheets and towels smelled fresh, kitchen was super clean. Second, furnishings were all comfortable and everything in the kitchen was in perfect working order. Mattresses and pillows were comfy too. Third, great communication and we got the feeling that the owners care about both their home and their guests. Finally, the location was great! Half mile walk to restaurants and shops. Even closer to the historic cemetery and the AT. It was a really hot few days when we visited but the A/C was perfect in the house and there was even a breeze on the front porch, which was a lovely place for AM coffee. Even though you are close to the “action,” the house was SO quiet! There was also a nice selection of board games, books, and TV w Roku. A truly lovely home…will 100% be where we would want to stay on return visits to the area.

Beautiful home in a nice, historical neighborhood. Modern upgrades to this lovely home. The host, Jay, is a very nice person who answered all our questions & responded immediately to our correspondence. Home is close to downtown Harpers Ferry, & you can walk to it. Wear comfortable shoes because you’ll do lots of walking on hilly terrain. The history of this town is phenomenal. If you haven’t, you need to visit & stay in this darling, neat & clean home. Thxs Jay!!

Stay in a very cool historic property in a very, very historic town. Jay the host was great.
