The Story of Tweetsie House...
Tweetsie House offers the conveniences and luxury of modern construction while giving the feel of a rustic mountain cabin and setting. From the valley below, the faraway whistle of a steam locomotive sounds. It's Tweetsie Railroad's historic steam engine--and the namesake of this rustic, charming cabin in the woods.
Why You'll Come Back Again and Again...
Tweetsie House is ideally located between Boone and Blowing Rock in the gorgeous High Country of North Carolina. No matter what the season, Tweetsie House is a perfect destination: escape to the cool mountain air in summer; enjoy the breathtaking fall foliage, take advantage of many different winter sports, or watch the mountains come alive in spring—whether hiking in the woods or relaxing on the deck. All within minutes of Tweetsie House, you'll find so much to do!
What to Expect When You Arrive...
Upon arrival you will be guided by landscape lighting along the driveway lined with pavers and stone walls. Motion control exterior lighting allows for visitors to easily access the front porch and enter and exit from the large parking area.
The main level features hardwood floors throughout, kitchen with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops and a large dining table that, when fully extended, seats 10 people. The main living room has leather furnishings and large multi-story windows that overlook the mountains and valley.
The main level living area features a vaulted ceiling, ceiling fan, large flatscreen TV, gas log fireplace, and whole-house WiFi. Also on the main level is the master bedroom suite with king-size bed, TV, private bath with tub and shower, walk-in closet, and access to the rear deck.
The main level rear deck extends the full length of the house. From the deck, visitors can enjoy the mountain view and enjoy the use of a large gas grill, outdoor seating, and outdoor dining areas.
The upper level features hardwood floors throughout. There are two bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen-size bed and one with a pair of twin beds. These bedrooms share a bath with a shower and tub.
The lower level features two bedrooms, each with a king-size bed. One bedroom is adjacent to a full bath. Bedrooms are separated by a large den with a flat screen TV. Both bedrooms enjoy access to the full length lower level deck and six-person hot tub.
The covered lower deck is where you can relax in the hot tub or listen to rain pitter patter during a rain shower. The three level arrangement lets the young children have an area to themselves upstairs while the older children and adults can enjoy one of the two other living areas.
The whole-house heat pump heating and cooling system is complimented by a gas fireplace on the main level and a gas buckstove on the lower level.
Relax knowing that, on your arrival, your kitchen is ready for your bags of groceries; all pots, pans, and small appliances—including a Keurig—are at your disposal. Make chili for a crowd in the crockpot while you ski. Roast your holiday bird in the large roasting pan provided. Make a birthday cake with on-site baking pans and high quality hand mixer.
The amenities at Tweetsie House will accommodate your party, whether you’re planning a girls’ retreat, a guys’ golf-getaway, or a family reunion. The main-level master suite is great for elderly guests because there are no stairs to climb; a high-chair and pack-and-play are here for the littlest guests to use.
You don’t need to bring sheets, towels, pillows, or blankets. Laundry detergent and toilet paper are provided. Each of three full bathrooms is equipped with a hair dryer. An ironing board and iron are on-site. We've thought of everything so you don't have to.
As for things to see and do, you’ve got so many great options nearby:
Get out and see the beauty of the area at Moses Cone Memorial Park (2.5 miles) and Julian Price Memorial Park (5.9 miles). These parks offer extensive outdoor activities, including horseback riding, hiking, camping, and canoeing. Hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway (3.5 miles) for a lovely drive through Western North Carolina.
Grandfather Mountain (13.3 miles) is gorgeous in all four seasons, and has something for everyone! Every July, the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games are a must-attend event, hosting more than 60 Scottish Clans. Music, games, food, athletic contests, and more. The Bear Race, a grueling five-mile race to the top of Grandfather is an annual July event as well.
Guy’s weekend? Options include Boone Golf Club (2.9 miles); Willow Valley Resort (6.1 miles); Linville Land Harbour (22.1 miles); RedTail Mountain Clubhouse (24.3 miles); Mountain Aire Golf Club (24.7 miles). Tweetsie House is also ideally located near three destination spas: Westglow Resort and Spa (4.9 miles), The Inn at Crestwood (5.6 miles), and the Art of Living Spiritual Retreat Center (8.6 miles). Each of these spas offer luxurious settings and soothing services for the mind and body. Boone also offers five yoga studios from which to choose if you'd like to attend a class while in town.
We are in close proximity to the Appalachian State University campus. Book Tweetsie House for reunions, parent orientation, graduations, family weekend, ASU football games, homecoming, and more.
For kids, don't miss the outdoor summer drama "Horn in the West" (2.9 miles), the Tweetsie Railroad Theme Park (3.7 miles), which operates from April through October, Mystery Hill (3.9 miles), which is open year round, and gem mining at Foggy Mountain (5.4 miles) or Doc's Rocks (3.9 miles).
Other fun things to do nearby with children: Linville Caverns (33 miles), the Ashe County Cheese Factory (39 miles), Memorial Park in downtown Blowing Rock (4.6 miles) and storytime at the Public Library (4.6 miles).
Winter activities near Tweetsie House are many. Sugar Mountain (16.4 miles) offers snowboarding, skiing, snow shoeing, tubing, ice skating, and more. Beech Mountain (24.5 miles) and Appalachian Ski Mountain (1.6 miles) both offer skiing and snowboarding. You can also snow tube at Hawksnest Snow Tubing Park (14.6 miles) or Jonas Ridge Snow Tubing Park (25.7 miles). Or just enjoy the lovely snowy view right from the cozy, firelit living room at Tweetsie House.
If craft beer is your thing, Boone and the High Country are known for their great brews. Craft your own Tour de Brew by pub-hopping from Booneshine Brewing Company (1.9 miles) to Appalachian Mountain Brewery (2.2 miles) to Lost Province Brewing Company (3.7 miles) to Blowing Rock Brewing Company (4.5 miles). For wine lovers, visit the Grandfather Vineyard and Winery (11.3 miles) and Banner Elk Winery and Villa (16 miles).
For outdoor enthusiasts, we have world class mountain biking at Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park in Boone, hundreds of great hiking trails to explore, and fly fishing outfitters who can take you to the trout. The Boone-to-Blowing Rock paved greenway is currently under construction, and a one-mile section at Tweetsie and Mystery Hill is already completed. Also, don't miss ziplining at Sky Valley Zip Tours (2.0 miles) and Hawksnest Ziplines (14.6 miles).
Why Tweetsie House? There are literally four roads leading to Tweetsie House, but when you arrive you feel that you are at your private retreat. The only sounds you hear are the birds singing, the hot tub bubbling, and the echoing sound of the little engine just over the hill. At night the rock retaining walls, split rail fencing, landscaping, and cabin exterior are illuminated with lightscaping. It is very common to have wild turkey flocks and deer wandering around the property.
Located at over 4,000 feet, the summer nights are cool and pleasant and the spring and fall days are perfect for outdoor living. During the winter months, there is plenty to do—skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, ziplining, ice skating, and snow shoeing—but a 4WD vehicle is advisable in December, January, and February.

The house was perfect for our large family. Everyone had space for themselves and the common areas were big enough for all of us. Lots of games, which we took advantage of, and the kitchen was well stocked. Would absolutely recommend this house.

This was our second time at this house. We love everything about it. Could have used another big pot We love the location. Beds were comfortable. There were eight of us. The large table was great for eating breakfast

We enjoyed Tweetsie house for our daughter's graduation weekend from App State. The home is a perfect location just outside of Boone, but close enough to easily get to Blowing Rock or Boone for outings. Our family fit comfortably and the main floor bedroom was ideal for one set of grandparents. The house is equipped with all you will need to cook and serve a large group. We enjoyed our stay very much... a perfect spot for a wonderful celebration!

Tweetsie House was ideal for our two set of grandparents, two adult child and partners, and a 2-year old! Three levels provided privacy and the open living room and kitchen gave us all time to relax together.
The kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans and utensils; the beds had nice linens and were very comfortable; and the large deck and grill had a fabulous view.
Blowing Rock and Boone are both just a 15-ish minute drive - and Tweetsie Railroad just eight-ish minutes!! We were lucky enough to see the last dustings of snow and have beautiful skies!!
I highly recommend Tweetsie House!!

We had a wonderful time at the Tweetsie House. We travelled with three families. All of the adults had a king size bed and the children had plenty of room. We especially enjoyed the hot tub after skiing!

Tweetsie House was perfect for our fall family gathering. The little cousins had a blast at the house with the fire pit, hot tub and plenty of space to play inside with their new souvenirs from Tweetsie Railroad. The location was great, close to the sites we visited. Mir was a great host. Thanks so much!

This is my 2nd time staying at this house. It’s just the best location for either Boone or Blowing Rock, blue ridge parkway etc.. anything in the High Country. It’s very well appointed with everything you need and lots of labels to help you know what is what. The grill is brand new from my last time and works like a charm. We grilled 2 nights. We did not use the hot tub but there is one. The location is simply the best as you feel in the mtns (with lots of leaf color and wildlife) but the parking is nice and flat and spacious and you can get down the mtn in 5 minutes. And once down, you’re within minutes of either Blowing Rock or Boone. It’s a big house with 5 beds/4 baths so it’s perfect for a big family or 2 families or like us 5 women friends. This is a jewel. Mir (the host) is very responsive but we’ve rarely needed to contact her bc it’s all been worked out for you and easy to follow. I’m hoping we can make this an annual event!

Perfect space for large or extended family gatherings. Super clean and comfortable and very well appointed. With 3 levels, there is plenty of space to spread out yet room to come together in the great and dining area. Only 10 mins to either Boone or Blowing Rock, yet felt like we were off the beaten path. We definitely be back!

Awesome place to have a long weekend.

We found the cabin just as nice and cozy as the pictures showed - but above and beyond expectations.

Given the fee charged for cleaning I would have expected better cleanliness. There were hairs left in the sink, the floors did not look like they had been vacuumed well, and the towels had soap residue on them and did not feel clean.

The Tweetsie House was perfect for our holiday trip. My family loved the location and the coziness of the cabin. Plenty of space and lots to explore on the property. It is also very close to many activities you might want to do. The house was fully supplied with everything you need to be comfortable and enjoy your stay. Attention to detail was exceptional. The host was absolutely amazing to work with.

The host was wonderful and communication was great. Walked in to a complimentary bottle of wine and there was even a decorated Christmas tree. The cabin was very nice and well stocked with everything you could need. Definitely one of the better rentals we’ve had over the years. Thank you Mir and Aaron. We hope to visit again.

This is the second time I've stayed at this property and we love the location! We take our children to Tweetsie and it is very convenient. Also close to downtown Blowing Rock and Boone. Spacious accommodations for three families of 4. The hot tub is a nice plus for the adults after the kids are asleep!

This is a well kept property with a terrific location & we had excellent communication with the host. However, we chose this property for the hot tub and we were not able to use it. We were given instructions on how to fix the issue later, but it was too late. There were also some other smaller things we had an issue with that made this stay less than ideal. We were the first guests following a longer term rental, so I suspect the cleaners had a lot to do with our issues.

I have had my eye on this house since before covid. I was not disappointed. We had a great time My grandson enjoyed the hot tub. The house was beautiful and very clean. We ate several meals at the cabin and had all the pots and dishes we needed. The beds were very confortable. We hope to go back again.

My family of 10 stayed here and celebrated our ASU graduate. The kitchen was fully stocked with any pot, pan, serving bowl, or utensils we needed. Although the weather did not cooperate for outdoor entertaining, the layout was perfect! Would highly recommend and plan to stay again for a Master’s Graduation!!
