Hau’oli place is incredible! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and didn’t want to leave.
The property is obviously well cared for. The decorations are fun and add to the experience. (Our daughter, age 8, loved the tiki doing the shakas.)
The location is so close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park that it is convenient to come and go as you please and enjoy the whole experience.

The little tiki cottage was fantastic! Can’t say enough about the location (super close to Volcanoes Nat’l Park entrance), the backyard, and the character of the house. A perfect quiet place to serve as basecamp for our big island adventure. Worked great for our family of 4 but would be really good for a couple or solo traveler as well. Hosts are super communicative and welcoming. Thank you so much! Would definitely stay here again.

This place was easy to find as per the host msg. We checked in quite late around 8 ish night. The cleaning was poorly done Bathroom, furniture, refrigerator, floor, porch, dining area outside, microwave etc after long flight and rainy travel day we did not care and next day we cleaned things ourselves because we had to start our planned trip as we were in Hilo for 2 nights only. For next day morning the kitchen stuff was missing like coffee and sugar etc. in-fact coffee machine was not cleaned as well. The inside dining chairs are so uncomfortable that it was hard to have dinner and breakfast with kids. Outside dining was not an option because of cold and porch was not cleaned as well. After long hike day we thought to reach out to host and msg him. He offer us re cleaning while we occupied the unit or leave one day early and refund one night stay. I am not comfortable with first option and for second option, People pre-planned vacations, last minute reservation doesn’t work in Hawaii. We asked him to refund partially as accommodation seems to very overpriced in terms of services, fees what they charge to guest. He did not responded after that. We won’t recommend this place, you can get better services and accommodation in the similar rates in the same area.

Amazing place to stay. Mark was wonderful and easy to communicate with! The kitchen was fully furnished for cooking and beautiful. Very cozy and comfortable. We look forward to coming back again in a heartbeat!

Hau’oli Place was a real gem in a calm and quiet environment, which was just what I wanted in a place to stay. The cottage was so clean, much cleaner than the Marriott we stayed in the night before, and so well outfitted - everything was there that you could think of. The bed was very comfortable, the jacuzzi tub was a treat and the lanai was a place I could hang out all day enjoying the rainforest landscaping. I only wish we had more time there! If you are coming to Hawaii to see the volcano area, you can’t do better than this place!

What a wonderful place and great experience staying Hau'oli Place! The cottage was quiet, private, very clean, and well stocked which made it so easy for us to settle in. All the furniture was very comfortable, too. The Hawaiian and Tiki artwork, collections, and decorations added lots of character. The long lanai on the side of the cottage was a great place to relax, greet the morning sun with a coffee, or have an outdoor meal. The grounds were well-maintained and gorgeous; the rain forest trees and plants attracted many birds, which we enjoyed listening to in the morning and late afternoon. The gas fireplace and electric blanks were welcome amenities as we had several chilly evenings. We took advantage of the location to visit Volcano Garden Arts and Ono Cafe, Volcano Winery, Ka’u Coffee, and hike Volcano National Park which was only 5 minutes away. Mark and Lucretia, the hosts, were very responsive and great at communicating with us ahead of time; they provided helpful information about places to visit, local events, and dining options in the Volcano area. Our 5-night stay was too short! Hopefully we can return in the future. We highly recommend Hau'oli Place!

We had given up on VRBO - all the places we have stayed are dingy and old and not clean. This absolutely stunning home is perfection. It was so clean, every little deatil was so incredibly thoughtful from the heated mattress, to the extra blankets, to the carport, the outside firepit (on immaculately groomed landscaping), all the kitchen equipment.... I could go on. Every time we turned around, we discovered another sweet little thought.
We arrived in the late evening and all the lights were turned on inside so it was so inviting to come inside. There were thoughtful little itineraries, things to do, books to read.....
And the bed was so so comfy!
THANK YOU! We will probably never stay at another VRBO as you have spoiled us too much!

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this cute cottage. Again, we found it to be clean and well set up for our 3-nite stay during the Christmas Holidays. As before, there were thoughtful details that we appreciated such as extra throws for warmth on chilly nights, an easy to operate gas fireplace, a comfy bed with heated mattress pad, etc. White, fluffy towels were provided and the bathroom still smelled freshly cleaned when we arrived. We also enjoy the nicely positioned lanai with table, chairs and BBQ grill. The yard behind the cottage is lovely and the owner is planting bamboo along another boundary that was recently buldozed. We had a small struggle with figuring out the TV and cable situation, but the manager, Mark, quickly responded with assistance. All in all, a wonderful holiday get away for us. Mahalo!

Very cute place, full of tiki stuff. Large backyard area, beautifully landscaped. Well supplied kitchen. It gets COLD in Volcano at night. This place has a heater in the bedroom, one in the bathroom, and one in the living room plus a fireplace. We were always comfortable, would definitely stay here again.

We've stayed multiple places in Volcano over the last 10 years. This is one of the best for the price. It has a nice, full kitchen, beautiful lanai and is in close proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We enjoyed several nights out by the fire pit, but also relaxed on the lanai, eating most of our meals there.

We stayed just one night and wished it could be longer. The cottage is nestled in a quiet area just minutes from the National Park. The place is cozy, intensely furnished, and clean. I most enjoyed sipping a glass of provided wine on the extensive veranda overlooking the jungle-like property. Our only question was the inability to find a pot holder or oven mitt (and we didn't feel like bothering the owners over something that trivial). We would stay again.

We loved Hau'oli Place! It is well cared for, has a gorgeous porch and yard. We ate our meals on the porch, serenaded by birds and coqui. Comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, beautiful fireplace ( which we used!)
Mark was great at communicating with us ahead of time, and very responsive.
Located only 5 minutes from the park entrance. Stay a few nights, there is so much to explore. Stop at the hilo farmers market on your way in, stock up and stay a while!

My husband and I stayed for a few nights and the property was so peaceful! We loved relaxing here and all the amenities were great. Our flight was delayed upon arrival and the hosts were very understanding and flexible about the check in process. We will be staying again!

We stayed at 5 vacation rentals on our recent trip to HI and this place was by far our favorite. The location is very peaceful and relaxing. We absolutely loved hanging out on the porch and listening to the rain and the wildlife.
This home has some very unique decorations and well thought out amenities that made our stay in Volcano extra special. Would love to return again. Highly recommend.

Wow! This rental is beautiful! The lush garden looks so inviting. We had such a lovely visit to the area, even with the crazy rain-hello Kona low.
Owner’s answered questions or needs quickly.
I’m a bed snob- mattress excellent, sheets comforting not scratchy, and a soft fuzzy blanket made for heavenly sleep.
What we needed was available. The only thing that would have made it 10 star was washer dryer access and a listing of basic tv stations. Thanks for offering this rental

This is a beautiful cottage with all the modern conveniences to make your stay very comfortable. The grounds are lovely and it is so enjoyable to sit on the huge veranda and listen to the birds. It is close to the Volcano National Park which has many trails and activities to keep you busy for days. We loved our stay here.

My husband and I stayed here 3 nites to celebrate our anniversary and Christmas. We have rented a number of vacation homes in the area, many of which were special, but this one is now one of our favorites. Here are some reasons why:
1) It truly lived up to it's Happy Tiki moniker. If you loved the pictures on the website, you will love the decor & furnishings in this hale!
2) It was so well appointed - from the pots and pans in the kitchen to the fluffy white towels in the bathroom.
3) There were strategically placed informational notes about how to work things that were short and to the point.
4) The lanai table was perfectly positioned and quite comfortable for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
5) The grounds were well maintained and large enough to wander around in to spot native birds and flora.
6) The check in time was an hour earlier than most and check out an hour later (no rush to get up and get out ASAP)
7) The hosts were very easy to work with and provided great info on the latest happenings and eateries in the area.
To sum up - we had a thoroughly comfortable and enjoyable experience which we appreciated greatly! We would definitely return if/when we had the chance!

You only have 1 opportunity to make a good 1st impression. This home hit it out of the park. The house is easy to find. It's in a quiet neighborhood. From the outside the house is beautiful. The landscaping is amazing and the grounds are extremely well kept. Entering the house we found it to be exactly as described and pictured. The home is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed. It has everything you need make breakfast or gourmet dinner. The rear lanai looks out to a beautiful garden. We had breakfast on the lanai every morning. And drinks on it every night. Mark and Lucretia were very responsive and welcoming.
This home is on the edge of Volcano National Park. It provided easy access to the park. It was easy getting into Hilo for shopping and meals.
We highly recommend this home. We would love to stay here during our next trip to the Big island.

Jungle Hut by Volcano National Park
This is an amazing little house (we called it the Jungle Hut) which is just a five minute drive from Volcano National Park. You have the entire house, which includes a HUGE porch, a backyard at the edge of the rain forest, and a very friendly cat named 'Ike who lives somewhere nearby and will make your acquaintance. The bed is comfy, the sofa bed is also comfy, and the kitchen is well-stocked. If you want to make your own meals keep in mind the nearest market is 20 minutes away.
Some things for visitors to consider: You are in the rain forest and while you'll have neighbors there are no streetlights so you may feel a bit isolated. The town of Volcano is very small and shuts down about 7-8 pm. The house has ceiling fans but no air conditioning (or dishwasher) but we were at the national park all day and it gets cool at night so we didn't need it. The first night we slept with the window open and got woken up by a rooster at 5:30 in the morning. The second night we closed the window and slept better, so we recommend you do that as well. We loved this place.

Beautiful rain forest and volcano setting
The house was super cool, with excellent decor and all the furnishings you could want or need, located in a beautiful rain forest with very close proximity to Volcano National Park! We used it as a home base for Volcano and Hilo and the eastern coast. We grabbed some groceries and got lots of fresh fruit and veggies at the farmers’ market in Hilo and had BBQ every night on the lanai with the birds chirping away. The friendly family cats are a big plus too. I would give it more stars if I could.

Vacation in Style
This is a gorgeous place with style. The kitchen has everything you might need. Lanai is spacious and inviting, we wish we had spent more time out there grilling and chillin'. The jacuzzi tub was amazing, what a treat after a long day of hiking. Lots of heaters, blankets and even clothes for those extra chilly night time volcano visits.

Perfect Staycation
This property has everything one would want for a get-away- it's private, very clean, super comfortable, has needed amenities (some quite luxurious like the jacuzzi tub!), lovely living space inside but equally cool outside spaces with a huge porch, grill, fire pit and little ohia / hapu`u forest. Communication with the owners was super easy and they left us coffee, some tea and honey as a sweet gift, and got us a starter log because I mentioned we wanted to make a fire in the fire pit during our stay. I asked my six year-old daughter to give her review and she said she loved the porch and the sweet black and white kitty (`Ike) the best. We can't wait to come back!

The house and the grounds were beautiful. The owners were very responsive answering all questions we had. The kitchen was very well stocked, they also provided Italian coffee maker and steamer which we used all the time. The location is perfect for visiting the volcano park, but also convenient to see Hilo area. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

Great place
We had a wonderful stay here. The pictures do not do justice to the place. The location is perfect for exploring Volcano National Park and for taking the short drive into Hilo.
The apartment is well appointed and nicely stocked. Mark and Lucretia are very responsive hosts and provided great ideas for restaurants and activities. We would definitely stay here again next time we visit The Big Island.

Clean, comfortable and well equipped
This spot is better in person than the pictures represent. It's very clean and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and the lanai is very private. Well stocked with cookware, utensils and basic supplies for people who plan on cooking. Being the first leg of our trip, the wine and goodies were a nice welcome upon our arrival :). The guidebook and reading material helped us plan our time in Volcano and surrounding areas with great suggestions. The location was perfect if you plan on visiting the park and a short drive to Hilo. As suggested, we stocked up at the grocery stores beforehand as there isn't much in Volcano grocery-wise. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to anyone interested in staying in this area.

Very Happy
This was the 3rd place we stayed this trip, and by far the best. Perhaps it has something to do with going from a cottage in Hawi, then a beach front condo in Kona to a house in Volcano!! This was, by far, the largest and best equipped and furnished property. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in and well stocked with dishes and cookware. We did need some heat in the mornings and only had one afternoon on the lanai (listening to the birds) but that was because we were out touring most days. I agree with others that the bedroom closet arrangement could be improved and I think the bedside tables are too low. Great to have filtered water and enjoyed a pancake breakfast. Thank you M & L for the birthday card and cookies..

Fabulous place, beautiful setting, gracious hosts
Hau’oli Place is ideally located to explore Volcanos National Park. The setting of the condo in the rainforest is so lush and we enjoyed as much tine as possible outdoors on the lanai. The condo is artfully decorated and well equipped. We were particularly impressed with the offered pantry staples, particularly the pancake mix and coffee. What a nice touch! Being aware of our evening arrival and that we were a party of four, our gracious hosts had even pre-made the sofa bed. The Hawaiian welcoming didn’t end there, they even invited us to a Christmas party they were hosting next door and we enjoyed the company of many locals who gave us advice on thrings to do and places to see. We couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant stay.

A Cozy Cottage in the Forest
We are very pleased we chose Hau'oli Place for our stay in Volcano. It is spotlessly clean, comfortable, attractively decorated, and well located for exploring Volcanoes National Park and the surrounding area. The cottage is on the same property as the manager's home, but it is surrounded by forest and situated so that it feels completely private. The neighborhood is very quiet. You may hear (but you won't see) a neighbor leaving for work in the morning; otherwise there is only the sound of birds in the trees or the patter of rain on the roof. The cottage itself is surprisingly roomy. And the covered lanai, which runs the length of the building, adds to the usable space. We loved sitting out there when the sun came out. On cool, rainy days we appreciated the fireplace in the great room. If needed, extra blankets are provided for the very comfy bed. So despite having some drippy weather (not unexpected, as it is in a rain forest) we were warm and cozy. The kitchen is well stocked with all the basic supplies. There were even two fresh eggs, courtesy of a neighbor's hens, waiting for us in the fridge :-) The appliances are up-to-date and most of the dishes and cooking utensils look brand new. Please be aware Volcano Village is a tiny place with no supermarket - only two small stores that offer a bit more than your average gas station convenience store. So if you plan to do much cooking you will have to drive a ways to get groceries.
If there is any downside to this cottage, it is that the bedroom is short on space for clothing storage. But we found it adequate for two people. A small suggestion: it would help ladies with "mature" eyesight (like me!) to have a magnifying makeup mirror in the bathroom. It's difficult to lean in close to the mirror above the vanity.
Mark is great to deal with. He is available and helpful without being intrusive. He knows the area well and is ready with suggestions for things to do and places to eat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hau'oli Place. If we plan a visit to the area in future we will not hesitate to book this charming accommodation.

Great location, quiet yet near Nat’l Park and Volcano Village
Our 3 night stay was very good. Besides the great location, the house was well-supplied with a great covered lanai with lots of padded seating, tables, and a gas grill. The electric heaters in the bedroom and bathroom came in handy as did the gas fireplace! Comfy bed, good shower. Bedroom needs more and better storage, and more than 3 hangers, but was workable for a shorter stay. No filtered water, which was strange, but Mark supplied us with 2 gallons for drinking and cooking. Mark met us when we arrived and was very helpful in walking us through the house and explaining things. All in all a good stay!

Lovely Quiet Home
My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at such a well appointed home in Volcano. We were initially impressed with how incredibly clean every aspect of the house interior as well as exterior was kept. This is not always the case and sometimes are misled with photos and reviews. The attention to detail was impressive. The furniture, living room, bedroom and outdoor lanai was very comfortable to top it off. Mark made himself available immediately to any questions that we might have had and was kind and knowledgeable of the area and happenings in the Volcano National Park.
We are residents of the Big Island and visit volcano at least twice a year. We will be planning our future trips based on this availability. Mahalo nui loa!!! The Bamboo Cottage 218329
