This house is built into a hillside with a main level and a lower walkout level on Portage Lake. This home has 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths, two complete, kitchens with dishwashers, two laundry rooms, plus many amenities. Both kitches have granite counter tops and the house is equipped with a central vaccum system.
This home is 3,600 square feet for living area and 2,200 square feet of deck area. You can rent this home as a 1, 2, 3 or 4 bedroom home for your vacation in the Houghton and Hancock area of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
The Main Level:
The large living room has vaulted ceilings, 42' flat screen satellite HDTV with a Blue Ray DVD player, surround sound system and two pullout queen size sofas for extra guest. There is a surrond sound stereo for your enjoyment and a large walk-in closet for all your gear. Patio doors open onto the large paver walk-around deck furnished with outdoor furniture for sitting and relaxing. There is a complete kitchen including a dishwasher and a laundry room with a washer and dryer.
There are two bedrooms on this level. The master bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed and the attached bathroom has a double skin, shower and a whirlpool tub. The other bedroom has a queen-size bed and a twin mattress in the loft of this bedroom. There is a 2nd full bath with a tub/shower combination. on the main floor. The main level offers over 1800 square feet of living area and 1200 square feet of deck. The interior is finished with the timber frame style. The main floor will sleep 9 guests.
The Walk out lower level:
The lower level is a complete living area with 9' ceilings. The family room is furnished with a 42' flat screen satellite HDTV, DVD player, surround sound system and two pull out sofas: one queen-size and one full-size. There is a dining room and another complete kitchen with a dishwasher. There is a 2nd laundry room with washer and dryer. There are two bedrooms on the lower level with a king-size bed in one bedroom and two twin beds in the other bedroom. There is a full bathroom with a tile walk-in shower with multiple heads. The lower level offers 1800 square feet of living area with over 1000 square feet of covered porch overlooking Portage Lake. Radiaint in-floor heating in the lower level will keep you cozy all year round. The lower level will sleep 8 guests.
We provide bedding and towels; all you have to bring is your consumable goods. We also have a fire pit set up outside overlooking Portage Lake for your evening campfires and a charcoal & gas grill for outdoor grilling.
This house is located right next door to Sandy Bottom Beach where there is a sandy swimming beach and a boat ramp so bring your boat for cruising on Portage Lake, fishing, or water sports.
We are located on Trail #3 so leave right from the house on your snowmobile.

Great property on the water with a huge yard to play in. Appliances were brand new and high quality. We appreciated that there wer kid-friendly, plastic dishes in addition to the nice dishware for the adults. There is a grill on the deck along with plenty of seating outdoors, or you can grill at their waterfront kitchen which also has a lot of seating for a large group. Two sets of laundry machines between upstairs and downstairs. Water pressure and heat were great in the showers. TVs had plenty of programs to choose from or you could log into your digital streaming platforms. The owner was quick to respond to communications. The house was only about a 10 minute drive to Houghton and Hancock and about 10-15 minutes to Hungarian Falls and Douglass Houghton Falls. Overall, great stay!

Sandy was fantastic! She made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The house and property were perfect! Plenty of space for the whole family! So grateful to have found this place! We were also able to experience the Bridgefest celebration. That was a treat- adorable town with lots to do!

This house had absolutely everything you could need for a vacation. Every room was extremely thought out and well prepared. The owner, Sandy was amazingly responsive and courteous. She made us feel right at home. I would absolutely recommend this house to anyone wanting a high-end stay in the UP. The home is stunning, and nothing can beat waking up and staring at the sparkling lake.

This was such a wonderful experience for our family to send off our incoming college freshmen at Michigan Tech. The accommodations were wonderful and the pavilion area is just spectacular with fun activities to keep everyone busy like kayaking, paddle boarding, sitting by the fire or cooking up a gourmet feast in the well appointed and beautiful kitchen. We shared it with another group we didn’t know and there was room for all. A wonderful experience! Thanks Sandy!

We gathered for a family wedding! We wanted to be together rather than separate hotel rooms. We still all had our own room/space but we got to share lots of time togeher. It's a great space for a big group. And Sandy couldn't have been nicer about communicating and answering our questions! We'd love to come back!!

This was the perfect place to stay for our family. Lots of room for everyone to play, gather, eat, visit until the early hours, laugh, and celebrate. We were close enough to get to the college, access sledding hills, and hike to beautiful waterfalls. This cozy home was stocked with so many things that made our stay extra special. Overall a great stay at the property. We had a large group of adults (15) and there was enough space for everyone. We saw a different review suggesting to bring an air mattress as the master bedroom closet could potentially be used as another bedroom and we’re glad we did. I wouldn’t recommend the fold out couches for adults.
The location was great, house was clean and the owner that greeted us upon arrival was very friendly. Lots of trailer parking which was a huge plus for our group. All in all we would stay again but with a smaller group to ensure everyone has an actual bed.

Large, nice home.
Great house to stay in as a big group. Owners are very strict on rules which helps make the house stay in nice condition. All extra amenities were available and very nice property. We enjoyed our snowmobile trip to Dollar Bay and will return for sure. Reminder to bring an air mattress for the master closet as it is huge and can be another bedroom. Thanks for hosting Kemp’s!

The teens used the lower level where they could watch movies and play video games, and stay up late. The adults slept in the upper level. We cooked, ate pasties, played games, and watched a lot of football games. There’s so much to do in the area. We sledded, ice fished, dogsledded, snowmobiled, and skied. The area is beautiful. I would highly recommend this home and would love to stay in the summer or fall.

We had a great stay at Kemps big house. The views of the lake are absolutely amazing. House was well stocked with many amenities you don’t see at many vrbo’s. If you want a quiet, relaxing and private place to unwind among the large pine trees, consider staying here.

Being able to celebrate my birthday at such a luxury home made turning 40 even better! We had the pleasure of meeting Sandy and that made our trip 200% better! Such a sweet and smart woman!! She took us on a tour of the full property and another part of the lake. It was a 10 hour drive and worth every minute!! Will definitely go back!!!
