About this house rental
“Pura Vida” is Spanish for “pure life,” a philosophy that encourages the appreciation of life’s simple treasures. Start with the morning sun bathing the hills across the lake in golden color & watch the drama of a brief afternoon storm pass, leaving the air clean & fresh. Enjoy the haunting calls of the loons, the lake breezes & sounds of the waves against the sea wall. Laugh around the table, savoring a meal with loved ones. Relax by a bonfire & watch the stunning colors of sunset bleed into the deep sapphire of twilight as the stars start to twinkle. In the colder months, snuggle up by the cozy fireplace & relax to the view & sounds of the waves outside. Curl up in a comfortable bed and sink into slumber, ready for the next day's adventures. There's something kind of magical about the light, the breeze, & the sound of the water here. Pura vida!
If your desired dates are already reserved on Pura Vida's calendar, or if you need another cottage for extended groups, you may want to take a look at Halcyon Cottage (VRBO #3089096), located right next door!

Additional description: While life on the lake is most magical during the warmer months, the cottage is snug throughout the year & provides a front row seat to the natural dramatic beauty of the effects of winter storms on the lake; it brings you close to the water in any season. The beautiful indoor gas fireplace makes it even more cozy! Some guests have even likened a visit here to staying on a boat (minus the rocking!) with the sound of the waves lapping at the sea wall heard from even inside the house!
Just 2 steps up to the front door from the gravel parking area. There are no cliffs or long staircases to navigate; step out onto the over-water deck from the house itself, with a few additional short steps down to the dock & water. The deck is perfect for relaxing at any time - you'll be drawn there over morning coffee, to bask in the combination of midday sun & lake breeze, to sip a local craft beer or glass of wine at sunset, or to stargaze over hot chocolate/cider!
An open floor plan on the main floor means that the kitchen, dining area & living room are one space, which is full of light. A full bathroom with a shower/tub combo is on the first floor & 2 bedrooms (BR1 has 1 queen bed; BR2 is small but has a bunk bed (upper twin & lower full). Please note that while sturdy, maximum bunk occupancy is either 2 adults (1 each level) or 3 children. An open staircase leads to a second floor with a half bathroom & loft-style open space with a queen bed. Beds have comfortable memory foam mattresses. Recently updated decor features a comfort-oriented, eclectic, contemporary style, with regional art adorning the walls. The house is small in square footage, but comfy & well-appointed (think urban loft meets peaceful lake cottage). Eco bonus: Heat and AC is provided by an efficient heat-pump system & all electricity supplied to the property is 100% solar generated, purchased from a nearby solar farm. Aside from the gas fireplace and range, the house is run on solar electricity.
Please note, because of idiosyncrasies of our right-on-the-water location & county waste water system restrictions, the house does not have a washer/dryer or dishwasher. Property outdoor amenities like the watercraft & some outdoor furniture are seasonally stored & *not available* during colder months (usually late Oct to mid May; exact dates are weather dependent & not guaranteed). Parking at the house is limited. There is room to park *3 regular cars* OR *a combo of 1 large pickup/SUV with 1 car combo* on the property. Over-parking will prevent normal traffic flow on the one lane road and is not permitted - violators may be towed. Please message us to discuss options for overflow vehicles.

NOTE: We do not ever rent outside of professional booking websites that verify our ownership. If you see this property advertised on c*****list or elsewhere, those listings are scams.
____
CHECK-IN: Check in after 4:00 pm; check out by 10:00 AM. We genuinely empathize with the challenges of travel logistics & wish that we could accommodate alternatives, but the scheduled times that we must guarantee our cleaners do not permit early arrivals or late departures.
____
OCCUPANCY: Property use is strictly limited to the maximum occupancy of 6 registered guests. We will consider authorizing small numbers of occasional/temporary day visitors, but no parties, reunions, or sustained use of the property by unregistered visitors - we are not able to accommodate consistent extras or larger numbers of people because of off-grid septic logistics, general space limitations, parking & other neighborhood impacts. Please message us to discuss if having day visitors are part of your travel plans. Any approved visitors must abide by all house rules, including speed limits & parking restrictions.
____
INSECTS/SPIDERS: Bugs are a natural part of lake life & a healthy ecosystem. We do our very best to keep them out of the house, but because we are so close to an important water source, use of chemical sprays must ethically & legally be limited due to environmental impacts. To reduce the insect numbers that sneak inside, make sure to keep doors & screens closed, especially at night.
____
BOATING/BOAT HOIST: Overnight in-water docking is not allowed as Cayuga Lake is a big lake with a lot of fetch; waves can be large & unpredictable. **When not directly observed, boats/PWC must either be on the hoist or stored on their trailer.** If you wish to rent a motorboat during your stay, boat rental companies will often deliver by water directly to the cottage & pop the boat right into the hoist for you! Monohull motorboats & PWC only; hoist cannot accommodate pontoon boats, sailboats or catamaran/trimarans. If you have a larger boat (>22’ hull) please message us with your boat type prior to booking so we can determine if it will fit safely in the hoist. Use of the boat hoist must be requested & agreed to by us >7 days prior to arrival or it will not be powered & available for use. Any guest wishing to use the hoist must be fully responsible for its safe use; on-site training is not available. *No space for on-site trailer storage. Prior guests bringing boats have had very positive experiences with launch & storing trailers +/- boats at both the Long Point State Park launch (to the north) or nearby Don’s Marina launch facilities (to the south). Hoist access is a courtesy only; no refund will be provided in the event that the hoist is not available for any particular booking due to damage/malfunction/service delays. This is extremely unlikely, but should this happen, guests will need to store the boat on its trailer or return to rental facility and re-launch daily.

The property had everything we needed and included the use of the boat lift. Don and Michele were quick to respond to questions before and during our stay and were very accommodating to all of our needs. Would not hesitate to recommend. Thanks again!

We woke up Saturday morning excited to get on the road for our week on our favorite Lake. We arrived not knowing what to expect. What we arrived to was perfection. The house is beautiful! Kitchen had everything we could possible need. We enjoyed going on adventures with the kayaks and paddles boards. We went on multiple walks a day with our dog on the lane. The neighbors were very friendly. But mostly we enjoyed just sitting on the dock and floating in the Lake and just enjoying some well earned relaxation and quality time together. Thank you so much for sharing your house with us. We will be back.

Lovely home, nicely situated on the lake. Kitchen had new appliances and was well stocked. The deck and pier was large and well built with trex..ideal for watching the sunset or taking in the fantastic view. Rooms and closets are a bit small.

House and deck on water. Beautiful sunsets.

Great property and location. Especially enjoyed the porch and dock!

The property is in a quiet beautiful setting and description is accurate. Well appointed and stocked, we had a great time and would stay here again. It is located midlake and close to winery's and breweries. About 10 min to Aurora.
4.9
We loved the dock, kayaks, and location. We really enjoyed the close location of Aurora brewery and parks. Great for our short stay on the water.
4.9
This was a clean property with a perfect location - 30 minutes to Cornell campus, close to wonderful vineyards and breweries. Lots of things to do nearby. We enjoyed using the paddleboards and kayaks. Gorgeous sunset views...wish we had planned to stay longer. Perfect for our 3 generations. Neighbors friendly.

We truly enjoyed our stay during my nieces graduation. Instructions from the host are very detailed, clear and easy to follow.
Although due to the chilly temps and cloudy skies we didn’t use any watercraft or hang out very much on the deck, we were comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped and great.
4.9
The property was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. Kitchen was stocked. It was amazing just walking out the back door on to the deck and dock over the water. We caught so many perch! The property is up to date and shower pressure was awesome.

I stayed in this cute house on the water with a friend for a knitting weekend. It fit our purposes perfectly as we weren’t looking for much. It was a beautiful and clean house on the water with a gorgeous view. This is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for a relaxing time. We loved it!
4.9
Loved how quiet and relaxing the cottage was. The sound of the waves crashing on the lake wall was a very nice background for the weekend... And the ducks were fun

We had very specific wants in a place: on the water, outdoor fire pit, near waterfall hikes, and hot tub. This listing stated that it had a whirlpool spa, but no suck think. We picked this out of 4 that had all we wanted but were very disappointed. A hot tub would have been great after hiking all day.

Just ok

Our stay at Pura Vida was lovely, the cottage was very clean and had every convenience.
4.9
This property had everything you need for a relaxing vacation. The location was ideal with lots of water toys to enjoy your stay. I’m not sure which was better enjoying the view by the fireplace or having dinner outside while watching the sunsets. Love to stay again.
4.9
The best finger lakes cottage we’ve rented. Quiet, private, well appointed, well maintained, super responsive property manager. Will absolutely be back.
4.9
The peaceful feeling you get when sitting in the adirondack chairs on the dock is amazing. The sunsets are beautiful. The cottage was perfect for us. We had 4 ladies and came to visit vineyards on Cayuga and Seneca Lakes. We were on the opposite side of Cayuga from most of the vineyards but the drive around to the other side was nice. I loved the tiny town of King Ferry and went to the King Ferry Cornerstore every day.
4.9
We spent wonderful 4 days at Pura Vida Cottage. Property and location are terrific and exactly as described on Vrbo page. Home has everything you may need and more. We loved cozy fireplace after a day of hiking.
Would love to return next year.

Nice quiet neighbhood and you're so close to the water (actually part of the home is built over the water) you feel like you're on a houseboat. Michele's attention to detail and everything being so well described, labeled makes everything so easy to find - and use. A quiet, peaceful getaway.

Thanks to a perfect home and location, we had a wonderful girls (two of us haven’t been”girls” in a long time.) weekend.
The pictures on line are exactly as they are in person. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. We felt right at home as soon as we unbacked! We appreciated the attention paid to all the extra details. From the candles (charged) and lovely decor, to the Weber grill. Our steaks turned out awesome.
We enjoyed the deck and it’s comfy furniture. The promise of a lovely sunset was fulfilled! We hope to come back soon!
4.9
Gorgeous rental with incredibly thoughtful amenities. We went out on kayaks almost every day and loved our evenings cooking, watching sunsets, and playing some of our favorite games (quite a selection was available)! The owners and property manager were so responsive!

This was our second year staying at Pura vida and enjoyed it just as much if not more than our first visit.
The house is in a wonderful location on the lake especially if you are able to bring a boat. It's a 10-minute ride across the lake to a few of my favorite wineries which include sheldrake point and thirsty owl. It's also a 20 minute car ride or a 30 minute boat ride to Ithaca where We always enjoy a trip down memory lane!!!
The boat lift is a huge Plus, Don's Marina down the road is a pleasure to deal with as is Sally who is always so happy to answer our questions regarding the house!
I must say Don and Michelle really care about their home and I believe all their guests realize this.
Thank you for another wonderful stay
Sharon and Bill

We had a wonderful stay and booked again for next year!
4.9
The layout of the lake house and cleanliness are superb. Parking is somewhat limited but enough for our 3 cars but not more for visitors. Communication with owners and management was excellent. We would definitely stay there again in the future

beautiful, calm, and peaceful again this year.
we liked the new arrangement of the living room furniture.
a wonderful property.

Another wonderful stay at Pura Vida cottage! The cottage is described perfectly in the photos shown in the listing. The fully stocked kitchen makes cooking a breeze in this clean and tidy kitchen. We spent most of our time out on the decks - which are beautiful! Did a lot of fishing and the kids had a ball!

Im going to try and keep this brief because there are too many things to list! We stayed the week of the 4th of July. The property was beautiful and well kept. The neighbors were very welcoming and there was even a 4th of July parade/party we were invited to. There was a nice 9 hole golf course and winery 5 minutes from the property which we went to multiple time. The property owners were quick to answer any questions we had. I would highly recommend renting this property!
4.9
great place to stay and the neighbor 3 doors to the north in a good guy.

An exceptional house and property with impeccable details. Right on the lake looking out towards the sunset, with lapping lake water underneath the deck and dock. All you could ask for, and then some. From books, to candles, to outdoor furniture- to kayaks, life vests, & paddle boards. A fire pit, and grille, and the view from this private and quiet lake neighborhood was an ideal and relaxing escape from our busy and noisy lives. We hope to come back very soon!
4.9
We have made Pura Vida a yearly trip with our family. The house is perfect and always very clean. Michele and Don provide everything you need. We love the neighborhood and the dock is perfect for sitting day and night. The new arrangement of the furniture in the dining and living room was a nice surprise. We hated to leave. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us.
4.9
Lovely clean cottage! Perfect quiet location. Absolutely loved having the kayaks/canoes/paddle boards to use. Setup was great for our group of 6. The instructions for everything were very clear. Great stay!

My family/I were in town for my daughter's CU graduation - It was a fantastic weekend and the cottage was perfect for our weekend celebration - Thank you again for having this little piece of heaven on the lake!
4.9
This was a memorable stay for us since it was on the water. Well kept and clean, the once we did need to contact the property manager about the TV, Sally responded immediately. The owner, Don, contacted me to let me know about batteries for the fire stove before I even realized that we needed to change them out!!!
The smart lock worked beautifully and check in and out was a breeze.
We all agreed we would come back again next time when in this area!
Thank you for the wonderful hospitality!!
4.9
Location was very quaint on the lake, clean in the inside! Definitely glow slow because the neighbors are watching.
4.9
This cottage was beautifully maintained, clean and comfortable. The decks offered a perfect view of the lake. I was able to lay on the deck to look at the stars…amazing!
4.9
My husband and I had a wonderful long weekend. The house is perfect, clean and well equipped. Great deck, fire pit with awesome views of the lake. Donald and Michele were quick to respond. Nice indoor propane fireplace. If your looking for a bite to eat Fargo restaurant in nearby Aurora had terrific food and service. Can’t wait to return And enjoy this cottage in the summer.
4.9
Went up to the Finger Lakes for the weekend. Found this within a few minutes of Aurora. Place was immaculate, everything we needed was there. Michele and Don have made this a wonderful place to stay. A few wineries in the area helped. Next time we go up we’ll definitely book this if it’s available.
4.9
All was great with the exception of the broken coffee pot. I emailed you on thursday night but did not hear from you. We are coffee drinkers and improvised.
4.9
Although the cottage is a bit far from Ithaca, there were fun places to visit that were very close including Bright Leaf Vineyard, King Ferry Golf Course and Aurora Brewing. We visited each and loved the beautiful vistas.
