We really enjoyed our stay. 7 adults, plenty of space. A very unique property in a great setting. Best VRBO stay ever! Would highly recommend. Lisa was great as well.

The home is a special place and the grounds and view are spectacular! Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay at this beautiful property. The lanai and the lawn views of the sunset are absolutely breathtaking. Thank you for making this a perfect stay Lisa. We will be back!

We had an amazing time at Lisa’s home. So much charm and character. It was perfect for our family of nine. The views were spectacular especially the evening sunsets. Would definitely stay here again.

This house offered a really unique stay in Hawaii. The plantaion house provided the feel of what old Hawaii must have been like. We were all very comfortable and the kitchen might be better equiped than our home. The location provided easy access to the Kona attractions and the yard was spectacular. Lisa was great to coordinte with and also provided a tour of her coffee roasting operation.

The house is beautiful and location is great! There are a ton of extras provided to help enjoy the island (snorkel gear, beach chairs/towels, etc.). There were lots of extras in the kitchen as well (spices, condiments, cooking oils, leftover and unopened stuff from prior guests, etc.) to lessen our grocery bill as we did a lot of cooking. Lisa and her daughter were lovely and provided extra candles and helped out where they could when electricity in the area went out (completely out of everyone’s control). All kids and adults really made some great memories in the house and we miss it already!

Lisa is an amazing and attentive hostess. We had no idea how awesomely charismatic and charming this how was actually going to be. The house has stunning views and many interesting things to look at. Beautiful art everywhere and many comfy places to relax. My family spent most of our time in the kitchen and lanai.
The cupboards are stocked with many helpful things from spices to sunblock also all the beach things you might need.
I would highly recommend staying in this home. My entire family enjoyed the stay and Lisa has awesome recommendations on what to do around the island.
Thank you Lisa

We greatly enjoyed our time in this house. The view was fantastic, the accommodations acceptable, and the host friendly and responsive. We especially liked exploring the grounds, and the kids and young adults loved gathering new and mysterious fruits.
When it's humid, the house can be a bit uncomfortable. The dropoff at the driveway from the road is intimidating. The roads to get to it are windy and hilly.

House was perfect for our stay with three couples. The views were wonderful and it was nice to spend evenings visiting in a cooler environment. The house is unique with lots of history and character.

We found everything we needed for four adults and four kids at Lisa’s house, from tons of beach toys and towels to a welcome bag of coffee, plus there was plenty of space ( actually ended up with a whole bedroom to spare). The house absolutely lives up to the pictures and Lisa was easy to reach for any minor issues or questions that came up. The kids loved playing in the giant field outside, and the grown-ups loved drinking coffee looking out the giant picture windows. the house really feels welcoming and like a home. The drive up the mountain was quick, grocery store was convenient, and overall we were extremely happy with our stay.

Fabulous home. Plenty of room for our group of 8 adults. Better than the pictures and description online. Fully stocked kitchen and bathrooms. 3 large bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. Comfortable beds. Beautifully decorated, art covering the walls, lovely vintage furniture. Large living room and dining rooms which we barely used. Spent most of our time in the spacious kitchen and charming lanai. We were there in January, so Hawaii is cooler, but rooms were comfortable during the day and cool at night. Conveniently located near everything in Kona, but in a nice residential neighborhood, with view of the ocean. Lisa was easy to deal with.I could go on, but just a wonderful home. It's an older home, but well maintained. Roosters do crow starting early in the AM.Would definitely stay there again.Everyone in our group loved the house.

Our family had a wonderful stay here and would love to come back in the future. Charming historic Hawaiian home with modern updates, stylish furnishings, unique artwork, and breathtaking views. Clean home with nice extras for beach and snorkeling. Host Lisa was very kind and accommodating.

Two families enjoyed the wonderful house! More than enough space for 9 people. Lisa was a great host, answering all our questions and giving recommendations. The property is beautiful and the sunset on the lanai is breathtaking. If we ever come back to Kona, we would definitely stay in the “pink house” again!

We had such a lovely time staying on Lisa’s property for Christmas this year. Lisa had the house decorated for Christmas time and it was like a home away from home! Situated a short walk from the town of Holualoa, the property overlooks Kilua-Kona and the ocean making for some epic sunsets. The home itself is beautiful and has all the character and charm of an older Hawaiian property. Given the amount of bedrooms and extra beds, my family of 8 was very comfortable with the layout and led to a wonderful vacation for all. Highlights were the kitchen area where we were able to make a Christmas dinner, the fresh fruit from the property that Lisa provided for us, the beautiful views sitting on the lanai, and the media room where we could watch our Baltimore Ravens play on Christmas Day. Overall, I would recommend Lisa’s property to anyone looking to have wonderful stay on the Kona-side of Hawaii.
One thing to note is that there are chickens on the property so be prepared for an early wake up from the rooster. They didn’t bother us much since we are from EST so the early wake up helped fight jet lag. Also, given that the property is higher in the mountain, the tree frogs are also pretty loud at night. After a while though, it’s almost like a sound machine putting you to bed. Neither of these things bothered my family, but are good to note if you’re sensitive to sound at night.

Really cool place. Fruits off the trees, animals, walks around the property, dinners in the big kitchen with sunset views, kids reading in the book nook, short drive from house in country to town.
No problems, great time.

A rare chance to stay in one of the few remaining truly historic houses on the island, with a fascinating history and life of its own. This is the place for you if you need several bedrooms/bathrooms and LOVE old houses.
Not fancy, but funky and unique.
A most fascinating collection of artifacts and art, many of them created by the ancestors of the family that have owned this home forever. Host Lisa could not be nicer, more helpful or charming. The perfect elevation keeps the home a very pleasant temperature, the grounds are gorgeous, and of course, the views from the many lanais are fab.

You really have to stay at Lisa’s house to fully appreciate the views, the sounds, the incredible amount of antiques and artwork and the 7 acres of land. One of the nicest places I’ve stayed.

Loved our stay so much especially all the outdoor spaces where family can hang out. The property has lots of fruit trees and Lisa was generous in allowing us to help ourselves to them. We made homemade lemonades, enjoyed fresh papayas, fresh squash and star fruits. We can’t wait to come back.

We had such an amazing time at the coffee farm. Could not imagine a better place for our family. Beautiful view, lovely old home, amply supplied with everything needed. This house feels like you are walking into a piece of history. The kids had so much fun in the huge yard playing badminton and basketball. Hoping that someday we can all meet up at this beautiful house again.

Lisa is great to work with. Coffee is wonderful and the house is much more spacious than you might think it is, which is nice when you have a lot of family members in one place. The giant limes were a favorite. Also loved sitting on the window seats with a cup of coffee and enjoying the view. We didn't see the dog much, which was a disappointment to my animal loving daughter, but we saw Hobbes, the cat, a lot. We loved him and weren't bothered by him. We have 4 cats, one with a similar personality, so he reminded us of home. Lovely large table, which we used for games. Lots of books and games at the house, which was nice.

The view of the Kailua Kona area from 1200 ft above it coupled with its close proximity make it a perfect place for any activities in or near Kona. Sited on an old coffee plantation, the coffee produced on site is amazing. The variety of foliage along with the sounds of nature make it a wonder world for small and big children alike.

Our family loved staying here, it was an incredible rustic country home on the hill packed full of interesting art and character, with stunning views to match. The coffee was top notch as well and made every morning that much better, and Lisa was very gracious and happy to show and talk about the operation. The house was well stocked with everything we needed, more so than any other vacation rental we have seen. All the comforts of home and more.

We had such an amazing stay and host Lisa was awesome. First of all, this house - an former plantation property - is such an iconic representation of old Hawaii without feeling like an ‘old’ rundown property. On the contrary, from the large spacious and well equipped kitchen to the indoor/outdoor lanai to the large grass area with 180 degeee views of the ocean, there was so much to live about the property.
We were 2 families totaling 10 people and had plenty of space (we rented the cottage as well). The kitchen was the regular gathering spot with a nice size table surrounded by large screened windows, a window seat, bar stools and plenty of counter space to divide and conquer the evening meal prep.
By day, we either enjoyed the expansive property or made the 10 min ride down to town or one of the beach spots. Lisa has fully outfitted the property with chairs, towels. Boogie and surf boards, snorkel gear… even water shoes in a variety of sizes.
In the evenings it was back to the kitchen, followed by dinner in the dining room that accommodated all 10 of us very spaciouly, followed by games on the Lanai. And, wherever we went, we were able to enjoy music thru the built in speaker system.
The bedrooms provided a lot of options. I was a fan of the ocean facing room on the main level with private bath and a wall of windows. Our friends took the upstairs master which has several adjacent areas for kids and it’s own private bath. The other main level bedroom has a peaceful view of the garden and another private bath. The last bedroom is downstairs adjacent to a TV/game room. It’s a very cool room lined with plantation doors to the garden. Just be aware that this room does have stair access from the outdoor lanai which does not close off and no bathroom on that level. It worked great for our group with the two kids that used it sharing the master bath, but you do need to be prepared. The bed does have a mosquito net around it so the kids did not have any radical bug encounters.
Last was just the old Hawaii charm, from the decor, to the book lined walls (lots of great things to read), to the fruit trees and the chickens roaming the property.
We loved our time here and think you will too!

Love the location
I stayed with my family in the main house and cottage (June 2022) and we all loved having this expansive property available. ?The location is in the hills so it feels like you're tucked away in a private retreat on the island, with great views of the water

Wedding Getaway
We booked this amazing property to host our families in celebration of our wedding. Lisa was amazing and sweet, she shared details about the history and the coffee farm. She was very attentive and even brought us fresh eggs from
Hilo when we couldn’t find any! The views in every room are breath taking. The home itself is cozy and spacious at the same time. We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again one day! Thank you Lisa!

Vacation in Paradise
7 adults had a great stay on the property! Very eclectic property with amazing art and relics. Fantastic Bocchi ball lawns surround the property. Had countless hours of competitions while sipping the local beers and perfecting our Mai Tai recipe. Wild chickens and birds constantly moving about and a jungle themed ambience at night set the stage. Lisa was very accommodating and also roasted some coffee on the grounds for us. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you need along with many spices. Aloha!

A Stay in Paradise
Our stay at Hale Akala was wonderful! Perfect for family time as well as for personal down time. The home is unique in layout and provides amazing Kailua-Kona/ocean views from almost every room. Lisa was fantastic and genuinely cared about our comfort, providing everything a house would need for our stay, and then some.
The family roasted coffee, "Blue Sky", is so good too! It is roasted there on the property so you know you are getting the freshest cup possible and is the best part of waking up.
If you are staying on the Kona Coast, our family and I highly recommend Hale Akala.
To Lisa: MAHALO!

Authentic Aloha Spirit
Can't say enough about this place. Everything the description says and more. Sprawling ranch-era house, lots of room to spread out, beautifully decorated with authentic Hawaiian folk art, antique bottles, and unique furnishings. A comfy chair in every room. Breathtaking views of Kona and the ocean make for incredible sunsets, whether from the spacious lanai or the large lawn. Awaken to soft, cool breezes and birds chirping. Lisa was friendly, accommodating, and informative, left us treats of fresh fruit from her garden (papaya, bananas, limes, yum), plus she roasts great coffee on site. She is totally committed to the house (which has been in her family for generations), her guests, and Hawaii's aloha spirit. It's a bit removed from the tourist action in Kona (about a 15-min drive), which was just fine for us. If you want a quiet, unique, clean and spacious Hawaiian experience, this is the place for you. Mahalo, Lisa, for everything!

Trip of a lifetime
The house was beautiful, spacious and accommodating in every way. We explored the entire island over the course of a week but loved hanging out and cooking meals at the house as well. There are great ocean views from the kitchen and most of the bedrooms. Lisa is a wonderful host who gave us a tour of her coffee production and roasting facility right on the property. She gave us great advice on the best beaches and restaurants. One of the things I love about the Big Island Is its laid back, informal vibe and Lisa embodies this beautifully. So grateful we found this place.

Old Hawaii
A wonderful home with old Hawaii charm and history on the coffee trail. Spectacular views of sunsets and the Pacific from afar. Far enough away from the big resorts and tourists to experience the local feel. A great base from which to explore the island. Lisa was a gracious host willing to share her knowledge of coffee roasting and Hawaii. The house contained a wonderful library on Hawaii culture and collection of artifacts and art of the island.
