Escape to the beach for the best vacation ever. 3 bdrm 2 bath private beach-side home is reminiscent of the rich history of the St Augustine and East Coast beach homes. It has been deeply remodeled for comfort and the most modern conveniences to help create a special vacation experience. And it is all on one level (one bedroom has four steps).
The Mermaid Cottage is located in a quiet, highly regarded and admired beach neighborhood with a laid-back atmosphere that allows you and your family to spend lots of time enjoying this nature filled beach location. Established in an eclectic mix of old Florida cottages and contemporary homes, it is just one block from one of the several deeded beach access walk-on boardwalks leading to one of the best beaches on the East Coast. It is on a full lot that runs from one street to another providing additional privacy, free parking and access. We are pet friendly and children love this cottage. (Remind them to count the mermaids and enter their count in the guest book.) There is a one time pet fee. Just include pets when telling us how many family members or friends.
There are several desk areas in this home to work or learn remotely. The WiFi is super fast fiber optic and extremely reliable and secure.
Relax listening to the ocean on the covered porch overlooking the completely fenced front yard or enjoy the backyard deck for grilling, entertaining, relaxing and sunning. In addition, there is an upper deck that is perfect for sunning, entertaining and enjoying the ocean breezes and views. You are an easy 3-minute stroll to the beach and less than a mile from the intra-coastal waterway and Windswept Beach Park with children’s playground and fitness track. You are 7 miles from historic downtown St. Augustine on A1A, 2 miles from the AMP and Marineland is just 10 miles south on A1A.
The open Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen floor plan allows The Mermaid Cottage to live big and easily all on one floor. The Living Room has a 46” HD satellite TV, two sofas (one is a queen size bed sofa). There is also a fully stocked desk area complete with printer. (Located by the slider door so you can listen to the ocean while you work.) All bedrooms have extremely comfortable beds. The MB has a king size bed and a 40” HD TV. The second bedroom has two twin beds with a kit to easily convert them to a king size bed. The third bedroom (which is actually a 2nd Master Bdrm) has a king bed, sitting area with love seat, HD TV and another desk area (perfect for conference calls or quieter work or school). The two master bedrooms are located on different ends of the house making it a great house for two couples or older children. All bedrooms have blackout drapes to help ensure a great nights sleep. Our home is fully equipped, very comfortable and very well decorated with lots of original art. A large, newly remodeled and fully equipped kitchen allows you to easily prepare meals at home when you choose.
We’ve provided lots of little extras to make your vacation memorable and the most fun.
We are very “hands on” with our property and make The Mermaid Cottage our home during the winter. The Pearl Cottage next door is often available to rent at the same time for larger family/friend gatherings at the beach. It provides another opportunity to vacation with friends and family and still have privacy. The two backyards can open to one another when rented together. We had a wonderful time while visiting St. Augustine Beach. The Mermaid Cottage was very cozy and clean, the neighborhood was quiet, and the weather was perfect. We had no issues and would highly recommend to others looking for a place to stay.

Although this seems like an odd lead in, they had all the light switches labeled. If you have ever been to an unlabeled house, you know the fun of trying to which switch is which. Kudos and thank you, to the hosts, for that. Mermaid Cottage challenges you to find the mermaids in the cottage. Plan to stay a week, to accomplish this, lol. The host(s) were wonderful and accomodating. And the listing tells you most everything you need to know about this home. Short walk to the beach, but note, the boardwalk to get there has stairs up and down. Only you know if that will be challenging for anyone in your party. You are close to St. Augustine city, nearby local eateries(too many to list). Head to the south and you will find unique places. You can swm with dolphins, at Marineland and enjoy the company of alligators at

The house was well stocked and the layout was perfect for our family. Plenty of towels and extra pillows/blankets. The beach was a very short walk away. We walked to the beach in the morning and at night with our 4 and 5 year old. The beach is not crowded at all. There was a tide pool that the kids loved. My in-laws and our nephew came on our second day there and they loved it as well. We are talking renting both houses next year. It's honestly our favorite place we have stayed in as a family!

The cottage was wonderful! Loved the garage for storing the beach equipment and the rooftop area was a plus! Short walk to the beach made it more delightful! Home was clean and a/c worked great! Host always responded within minutes! Will stay again!

I rented this house for my parents, my sister, and my brother and his two teens. I rented The Pearl next door for myself, my husband, my teens and their two friends. Everything was perfect! In fact, we never even needed to contact the owner for anything.
This house fit everyone comfortably, and is in the perfect location - a quiet neighborhood with easy, quick access to the beach. I love that it’s not right in the hustle and bustle off of A1A near the pier (we’ve stayed in that area before and found the beach too crowded). This neighborhood is near a quieter part of the beach, but close enough to the busy part to make it easy to drive over their for the farmer’s market, Beachcomber, etc.
The house itself is casual and comfortable. We spent a lot of time on the porch and looking at the plants in the gorgeous back yard. We appreciated the parking in the back and the front of the house. We kept the fence gate between the Mermaid and The Pearl open and just bopped back and forth between houses as necessary. If you have a bigger group, renting both houses was perfect- we could be together but also had our respective spaces if needed. All in all a fantastic vacation.

Disappointing vacation rental!!!! Found floors to be filthy throughout the cottage, the bottom of our feet were literally black day 1 from walking around inside the cottage, bathrooms not the cleanest, cob webs on walls near bed in master, 2 dead roaches found in the hallway near back bath, and lastly had we known our view off the front porch was going to be of the 2 dumps directly across the street we certainly wouldn’t have booked!!!!
We have booked thru VRBO for decades and never have felt so disappointed in a rental!! We had waited nearly 2 years for this vacation and quite honestly it’s so upsetting for us to reflect back on.

The Mermaid Cottage was a wonderfully charming house. The homeowner was very nice and communicated with us well. Our stay happened to fall during Hurricane Nicole and she made sure we were comfortable staying there during the storm. It was very windy and wet but we always felt safe. The beach is awesome in the wind!

My wife and I, son and daughter-in-law and their two children five and seven-year-old girls as well as one large dog Golden Greyhound mix... We all had a great time. The beach was easy access and the house was beautiful. The granddaughters appreciated the mermaid hunt and the dog the fenced in yard as well as easy access to long walks. We enjoyed the recommendations from the owners for restaurant choices. We all enjoyed the visit to fort Matanzas. We will be back!

The photos online fool you in a good way. The house was bigger than I expected. Front porch was great to sit on any time of the day and a nice back patio also.

Everything was great! It was our families first time staying and was surprised how well stocked the kitchen was to be able to cook full meals, only a short walk to beach and within a friendly neighborhood. Hurricane Ian occurred 2 days before we were booked and was skeptical if our trip would even happen but Deborah communicated well with us and made us feel comfortable about still visiting. I hope we are able to visit again.

This home was amazing. The location was absolutely perfect. The proximity to the beach was awesome. I liked that it was in a quiet neighborhood but easy access to everything. The house itself was clean and great space for everyone to have their space. I would recommend this to anyone and would love to stay again.

I wish we stayed longer to really enjoy the property, beach and surrounding St Augustine. We only stayed two nights and (personally) it was a lot of prep for that short time! I would suggest that if you have elderly guests traveling with you, take your car and drive to the beach. St Augustine beach is very, very wide and the distance from house to beach is a hike! Also, St Johns County offers FREE wheelchair rentals for beach riding.
Overall, we had a nice visit. This place is great for longer term
vacations.

Love the Mermaid Cottage
For the 2nd time, We stayed for a week in the charming
Mermaid Cottage in the Butler Beach area For our family vacation. About 30 members of our family this time rented homes close to the beach for a week, as we have for almost every summer since 1960 . The Memaid Cottage is roomy, very well furnished, with a great design Including bathrooms and bedrooms at opposite ends of the house for privacy . The antique decorations and the garden Are very pleasing to look at for lengthy periods . The upper deck Is unique,with plenty of outdoor furniture, and has been a great place for family members to gather. All of The appliances are well maintained including the full kitchen and the washer and dryer in the garage. A gas grill and picnic area are also provided Adjacent to the garden with walkways.
All of this and close proximity to Butler Beach and other beaches Make it our our favorite place now to stay in the Saint Augustine area, our favorite vacation area. Deborah, the owner, Is very pleasant and easy to communicate with and dedicated to maintaining the cottage at the highest level.
We very much prefer the privacy and quiet of the cottage to condos with crowded elevators and facilities. The low traffic area is only block from the beach and from A1A, Which takes you with an a mile or 2 of groceries and restaurants.
Nobody is paying me or has encouraged me to write write a positive review.. We just love the place and recommend it to anyone!

Cozy Beach Cottage
We arrived on husband’s Birthday to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary with whom we share with his brother & wife. All 6 of us (including two 19yr olds) had plenty of room & privacy. The layout of the house is great for 2 family’s. We loved everything about the cottage: the history, decor, comfy beds & furniture, etc. I could go on
& on. And you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy counting all the mermaids, it was always a nice surprise when a different one pops out. Enjoyed the front porch (especially during a little storm which brought a full double rainbow right before our eyes!) and the upper deck was nice view and the garden in back is just beautiful. The short walk to beach is the cherry on top . Beach was perfect. We walked it every morning for sunrise and every evening catching beautiful sunsets also. Also got to see a couple of the tortoise walking by.
Maybe next trip will be me & husband in The Pearl next door Or a girls trip at the Mermaid Cottage. Can’t wait!

Worth every penny!
We rented this property for the week of our wedding. The moment we pulled up, everyone knew that we made the right choice for everyone who would be staying on the property. The location to the beach and to St Augustine was amazing! The property was very clean and bigger than expected. Ample parking for visitors and guests. Everything was labeled and information was readily available. The rooftop area was a favorite hangout spot. The front porch provided a great spot where we enjoyed a seasonal thunderstorm. We definitely will stay here again!
