About this house rental
Private and stunning, the Shadow Point peninsula is surrounded by water on three sides and is nestled within a tropical native hammock with garden planters to wander between. The two homes are the oldest residentially developed properties on Key Largo. We believe you will find it to be the most spectacular and intimate private property in Key Largo available as a vacation rental. With a PRIVATE BEACH, private dock, an ample yard for kids to run and play, gorgeous sunrises and sunset skies, the fabulous moon rises over the water and green islands beyond, tropical gardens and delightful breezes, the character of both the property and the buildings is true old-Keys style. You couldn’t have found a better place for your enjoyable stay!
Our historic, one-of-a-kind estate offers a rare glimpse of Key Largo as it was over 100 years ago. The two guest houses offer the vacationer a chance to step back in time and experience the charm of days gone by with its historic “Conch Style” architecture and original Dade County hardwood floors and walls throughout. Because of its size and location, Shadow Point is perfect for boaters, divers, snorkelers, kayakers, and birdwatchers and can comfortably accommodate family retreats, workshops, film and modeling shoots. It is a wonderful place for celebrations of any kind! During major Holidays and special events.
The gated 2 acre estate is filled with lush tropical trees and has a 180-degree view of pristine Largo Sound, located within the world-famous John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Launch the kayaks and paddle-boards that come with your rental or just relax and build your own sand castle. We are entirely surrounded by Largo Sound, not canals, and there are no houses across the sound from us to obstruct our view. Two deep-water mangroves cuts - one at the north and one at the south end of Largo Sound - lead to the open ocean. The Marvin D. Adams Cut is only a 1/4 mile south of the property and provides boat access to the bay side of Key Largo, its many boat-friendly restaurants and Blackwater Sound. Bring your own boat or rent one for your stay and tie up at our dock that offers 220v electric and fresh water for boats up to 40 feet. Some of the best coral reefs, dive wrecks, and fishing spots in the country are just a short ride away!
. Shadow Point is a registered, gated HOA and offers an exclusive retreat for vacationers desiring an intimate and private setting. It is available for 7 night or more during our high season. High season is November through July.
HISTORY: Shadow Point was built in 1917 by a ship captain and later bought by Chicago Industrialist, Frank Sweeting, for his fishing friends. After his daughter and son-in-law, Lelia & Marvin Adams inherited the property, Adams spearheaded the design and construction of the nearby canal that links the bayside on the ocean side of Key Largo. It is now known by the locals as ' Adams Cut'.
Named for the beautiful changing shadows and light that filter through the tropical hardwood hammock, Shadow Point is located on Key Largo Sound, the ocean side of Key Largo. Today, this estate offers the same relaxed atmosphere and seclusion of an earlier era. The 2.5-acre point is filled with lush tropical trees, including Buttonwood, Gumbo Limbo, Lignum Vitae, and Key Lime. With a 260-degree view of pristine Key Largo Sound, Shadow Point is an exclusive retreat for those desiring an intimate and private setting.
ACCOMMODATIONS: The main house has four large bedrooms with twin beds in two rooms and 2 king beds in the other two. There are private baths in both bedrooms with king beds. The large kitchen is user-friendly and perfect for viewing the lovely trees and water while sipping coffee. The dining table can seat fourteen for family gatherings. A large breezy porch with hammock and two daybeds runs the length of the house and offers a panoramic view of the water. The guest cottage has a small stocked kitchen, two bedrooms that each contain twin beds, a living room with a trundle bed with two twin beds, and a charming screened porch. Air conditioning, cable TV, and wireless Internet add comfort and convenience. The property has 2 docks one of which has electric and water and can take a boat that draws up to 4 feet. This vacation rental is perfect for boaters, divers, and fishermen along with being large enough for family retreats, workshops, and film shoots.
ACTIVITIES & ATTRACTIONS: Swimming, sailing, canoeing, and kayaking are available on the site. Boat rentals, parasailing, reef diving are nearby. Local attractions include Theater of the Sea, a marine mammal park, 5 miles south; Swim with the Dolphins, 3 miles south; and the Key Largo Community Park, with swimming pools, tennis courts, and a fitness trail. Shopping and restaurants are only minutes away. We have had numerous celebrations at Shadow Point. There is a seven night minimum stay.

My family and I had another amazing stay at Shadow Point! This property is so unique - it feels like you are on a private island. A very peaceful and relaxing place --- and, with so much history and nature! There is something for everyone, and all that you need is onsite. We spent the days on the water, or on the beach...and nights around the huge kitchen table at the main house - there was plenty of room for all 14 of us. Marlee, the property manager/owner is always hospitable and responsive. Shadow Point has a special place in our hearts - we have so many great memories and we look forward to making more. We can't wait until next time!

Historic with interesting art, antiques, and photos throughout. Very comfortable and fit our 12 adults easily. All in working order with lots of recreation available inside and out. Thank you for making Christmas 2023 so memorable.

For someone who loves a property with history, charm, and character around every corner, this house has it all. We brought our three sons and several of their friends, and the setup with the guest cottage for the boys was ideal. Morning coffee overlooking the water was my favorite time of day. The kayaks and paddle boards in the shed were awesome, and there was always something for the kids to do. Host was easy to reach and the house had everything. Kitchen was stocked with everything you could need. Completely recommend!

Ideal property and exactly what would be expected for “Keys” island feel. Very private.

This special part of Key Largo history is full of the memories of generations. The two charming houses are full of art and interesting collections from the past. The tranquil property, with peaceful breezes, is a haven from the modern Key Largo.

We had another amazing stay at Historic Shadow Point! Everything you need for a relaxing vacation is onsite at this private and peaceful retreat....though we did venture out for some deep sea fishing and a walk on the 7-Mile Bridge, we mostly spent the days relaxing on the beach, looking for sea life, fishing, paddling, grilling, sipping cocktails, and enjoying the salt life. There is something for everyone - we had a group of family ranging from 4-76 and a couple of pups, and we all LOVE making memories at Shadow Point. Marlee, the property manager/owner is so hospitable and responsive. Counting down the days until our next stay...!

We loved the house and cottage! They fit our family perfectly, but our favorite part of this property was the beaches, hammocks, spectacular views and quiet alcoves! Even had visits from a manatee!

This is probably the nicest vacation rental property we have ever stayed at. The privacy and amenities were amazing and 180 degree access to the water and water views. Great location, very easy drive to the Miami airport and exploring the keys.
Simply magical

It's Amazing. It's where old Florida meets modern convenience.
The Sunrises and Sunsets are fantastic, Everything you need is there. Appliances, Cookware,Everything. There were Sixteen of us in our Family. Plenty of room and very comfortable. Our Nine year olds fished all day every day and most of the nights. We watched Dolphin swim by in the early evenings. We Kayaked every day. And mostly we just hung out. It was awesome.

Owner charged two k additional on top of my twenty three thous stay site fee for a for 1 broken chair!!! We had purchased tons of food and condiments for our one week stay, and we knew we had to clean the place up so we disposed of all the food and half used condiments in the fridge. If there were Half used condiments left over and we would’ve known about it we would’ve thrown them away anyways I think that’s probably against code with Covid going around who wants to use somebody else’s half used condiments so yes if there was some of those in the fridge we threw those away. We got married on Thursday night the trash doesn’t come till Monday so unfortunately there was not enough cans to put the trash in and unfortunately it Has to sit out there until the trash people come by unless a special pick up is ordered. We eat exotic food all over the country all the time and I’ve never been told that they won’t pick it up we eat that stuff all the time at our own houses and have never had a trash company say that they’re not pick that up? So . Sorry that it might’ve had a smell. The cigarette butts in the trash bags came from our guest that we told not to put cigarette butts on the ground so unfortunately they probably took them and put them into the trash bags and that’s probably where the smell came from but I can promise on my kids lives that we did not smoke in the house or let any of the guest smoke in the houses!! Drunk guest? Well I would hope that some of the guest had a good time it is a wedding that we spent over twenty k just in the rental house and the site fee. I am very sorry that one of the guest stumbled and broke the cactus. I also apologize for the back 2 inch section of the chair legs being broken, which my wife and I were not aware of. My wife said if there was a burnt smell in the main house it’s because she accidentally burnt a huge pot of rice in one of the pots we brought with us and said that it stunk real bad and she stuck it outside to get rid of the smell which I have a picture of that. But its definitely not from smoking inside the house. We had kids in the house with us and my 76-year-old mother that has emphysema and oxygen. Sorry that we might’ve accidentally spilled a couple small pieces of cake during the ceremony. I would imagine we aren’t the only wedding that had ever spilled a small amount of the wedding cake or icing

We had a great time at the property. It is in a terrific location, lots of history featured for us to learn and enjoy, and the gardens are amazing. Lots of hammock time! The property managers were so helpful and easy to communicate with, but we really didn’t need much - the house was well equipped and comfortable.

Great location close to everything. We did spend the first day cleaning the house and all the trash on the shoreline, but after that everything went great. Will definitely consider staying again the next time we are in the Miami area.

Ideal property for family reunions.
We were a party of 14; 2 grandparents, 5 adults and 7 grandchildren.
Kids loved fishing off the dock and kayaking. Adults enjoyed evening “sundowners”.
Dolphin Experience was a treat as was discover scuba and shallow dive.
Everyone enjoyed a day on the water in a 24 ft deck boat.
Not a dull moment but plenty of time to relax and enjoys the beautiful gardens surrounding the house and cottage.

Our family of 12 very much enjoyed our stay at historic shadow point! When booking a property with so much history, it is understood that you are going to encounter some aspects of the property that could use some touching up. This home is all about the outside! The landscaping, hammocks, kayaks, beach and swings make for a fun day outside. The two homes are dated and have their pros and cons. We had an issue with the shower heads and the owner responded instantly with a phone call and sent a plumber the next day! Overall, this property is truly a home with lots of character and it shows how much love and care has been put into it over the years. If you are ok with that type of home this is a perfect home for you! If your looking for perfectly sparkling floors, a central air system and squeak free floor boards this may not be your cup of tea. Thank you for a great stay shadow point!
