This property was perfect. We used the fire pit, watched thunderstorms from the porch, floated in the river, slept in the very comfy bed and had a perfect long weekend. I'd love to come back someday.

The property was great. Easy access to the river. Not too far from attractions. We enjoyed this trip so much.

First I have to start off with the fact that the property exceeded my expectations. The beds were comfy and there were tons of pillows and blankets. The owners of this property have everything you have forgotten to pack. Which includes but is not limited, to Q-tips, games, coloring books, extension cords, and bug spray. They have thought of everything! The location was hard to find but a Google satellite picture helped when we planned the trip to find the location. The property was well-furnished and extremely comfortable. We found the decore was fitting and adorable. The kitchen was fully stocked with all appliances for a modern life.
We took walks down to the river every day but unfortunately, it was raging due to TS Debbie's aftermath.
Our only drawback was that the internet did not work no matter what we did and communications with the owner were on point but due to equipment failure we were not able to have TV or internet. This was not a huge issue as it caused us to communicate more, sit on the front porch, and play a few more hands of cards.
We enjoyed the sounds of the country (cows and roosters) and of course the train. It was a welcome relief to hear that instead of normal urban sounds.
I will only say to other VBRO Renters, if there is something wrong with the property you have rented or if supplies are low on something in the unit, please let the owners know so they can deal with the issue for the next person who comes into the unit.

My girlfriends and I were in need of some Adult Girl Time! A place to just relax, reset and enjoy some piece and quiet while knowing we were just a few miles away from Civilization! This amazing little House was Absolutely EXACTLY what we all were looking for! We enjoyed the house and ALL it had to offer. Front Porch sitting during a rain storm. The river to wade and float in. The comfy house that made us feel at home while we played cards, laughed, had a few drinks and curled up on the sofa to binge some good ol magic inspired shows we all knew our husbands would hate!! Lol We enjoyed a day at the Caverns, a few wineries and had some AMAZING German food at a place called The Bavarian Chef located 40mins away down Windy mountain roads with views that just calmed our souls!! We all highly recommend this Amazing Home for a girls weekend, or even a romantic getaway! A family vacation and even a guys weekend of fishing, camping and grilling!! We all cant wait to come back and enjoy it all over again!! Thank you to the Hosts for sharing this little slice of Heaven for us all!!!

Relaxing location near the river, no neighbors other than the train tracks. Lots of amenities that come with the house - tubes for floating, canoes, bocce ball for the yard!

We stayed here as family to visit Shannendoah park and it was very convenient! A bit hard to find and the train was noisy but we had a great time!

Family trip to see Shenandoah National Park. Property is perfect location to park and to Elkton. Private and secluded. My son fished every day and caught every day. Enjoyed the canoe as well. Washer and dryer super handy after all day adventures! Had a couple of things needed help with and the host was extremely responsive! Comfy beds and plenty of space for our family of 5 to spread out inside and outside!

My family and I really enjoyed our stay! House is even nicer than the pictures indicate.

It was a great weekend before the start of school. The house had everything we needed in the kitchen (K cup coffee maker), was clean, and the pac-man game was a hit. There was plenty of space for the kids to run safely around. We didn't use the grill but did enjoy eating outside and having a fire in the fire pit off the porch. Bring your own wood.
The shed had tubes, life vests, and oars for the canoe, which my family really enjoyed. The whole property was surprisingly mosquito free! We also were close enough to the water park at Massanutten and the White Oak Lavender farm in Harrisonburg for a good day out. It is farm country and there was an occasional smell of farm on the property, mostly during the hottest part of the afternoon.
And although Google says the driveway connects to Captain Yancey road, it does not. the driveway just goes to a neighbor's house.
thanks for the great weekend!

We had an amazing time at the house. It was close to the park for hiking or nice to just relax on the tubes in the river.

We had a wonderful time here! Everything was easy and relaxed. Close to a store for groceries, right on the river for daily, any-time swims, an easy drive to Shenandoah National Park. We would love to return here again.

What a cute farmhouse. It brought back so many memories of visits to my grandparents’ friends’ farm when I was a kid. We enjoyed having a fire in the fire pit and toasting S’mores. I especially loved watching the lightning bugs put on a show. We really appreciate everything you did to ensure that our “working vacation” was a success!

This is a super cute renovated farmhouse. Our family of four really enjoyed the space and the outdoors around the house. The kids absolutely loved the little reading nook and the Pac-Man game. Plenty of space to sit down by the water, as well. The house is well stocked with everything we needed for our long weekend visit. We cooked simple meals most evenings and had ample pots, pans, and utensils. We went to the Shenandoah National forest for hiking during the day and spent afternoons and evening fishing and swimming. The walk down to the river has a nice path, and is shady and nice. Highly recommend bringing water shoes and bug spray in the summertime.

Beautiful property enjoyed by the whole family. Great yard for kite flying and great space to relax by the river. Firepit was enjoyed every night, and the big table in the family room was perfect for games and puzzle making. Location perfect for short trip to Luray Cavern, hiking in Shenandoah National Park and tubing down the river. We didn't want to leave!

Had a great time. Played in the river. Remote, but close to caverns and Skyline drive. House was clean and comfortable.

Two far-flung brothers and me, along with some adult offspring, met up for fishing and fun - great location and accomodations. Plenty of room for our crowd - river landing worked well for launching our craft to float and fish for smallmouth. Two porches and acres of yard to romp.

The property was exactly as described online. We comfortably slept 7 people (ages 16-55) at the property. The views were beautiful, and it was a really easy drive to Shenandoah National Park. the owners responded quickly when I had questions.

What a lovely home on the Shenandoah River! With all the amenities of home, mountain views in front and back of the house, we were in heaven! Spent every day hiking in Shenandoah National Park with waterfalls and great views at every turn. Caught smallmouth bass in the river behind the house. Our dog loved the fields and trails. Right next to Harrisonburg and JMU, and five minutes from Massanutten where the kids drove go carts, tubed down a grass covered slope, and took a zip line down the mountain. Be sure to treat yourself to breakfast at Firebird Cafe and custard at Kline's Dairy Bar. Will definitely return!

We were looking for a quite place to get away with easy access to Shenandoah National park. This farmhouse was just the thing we needed. The renovations were well done and we were very comfortable here. The house was always very prompt in replying to questions.
Thanks for a wonderful stay

There were some workers that did not clean up after themselves, but it was a cute place, plenty of room, and comfortable. Would stay again in a heartbeat, great value.

The care in renovation is evident and they invested wisely. Everything you'd want modern is modern but they didn't lose the rustic, charm of the place. We suspect more improvements are on the way.
Say hi to the groundhog. We've named him Elkton John.

We had a wonderful time at the farm house! Our host Christi was so responsive and flexible. For us making these arrangements on the fly and changing our dates her flexibility was awesome and so appreciated! We were only in the house one night when my husband and family requested to see if we could stay through the entire week. We were grateful to the host that she allowed us to change our reservation to do so! She got back to me immediately when I contacted her with any questions.
The house itself is lovely! It’s been updated with modern amenities. It’s very cute, but it’s not so over done that you feel like you can’t relax in there. One of the best things about the property as well is that they allowed us to bring our dog! He’sa part of our family too ! The property the house is on has a very short path to your private river frontage. My family didn’t want to go anywhere other than down to the river when we were there! It was so relaxing and beautiful. The river runs slowly enough to be safe for your dogs and family alike. The hosts provided access to river tubes for floating and canoes for paddling had wer so desired. The water is cool and clean! The home is close to many activities if you can pull yourself away from the house and river. It’s very close to Massanutten and those activities including the water park or skiing. It’s also close to Luray Caverns and Sky Line Drive. It’sa great place to rest and recharge or you can be as active as you want! It’s the best of both worlds. You don’t have to choose! You can do it all here!

Perfect Riverside Retreat!
The pictures do not do the property and house justice! Tastefully updated interior, but keeping the charm of the farmhouse, we had more than enough room for our family of five, plus our dog. The master bedroom was deceptively large, and the bathrooms are more modern than our own in the city! They weren’t joking when they said all you need is beach towels and bug spray! We frequented the food lion in elkton after finding basic food a try staples in the home, camp chairs in the shed, and laundry detergent in the pantry room. Our pooch was in heaven running the yard, chasing the rabbits (be sure to grab a tick collar!), and just stretching her legs! Fifteen minutes from Massanutten water park and maybe 20 from the rest of the park, we enjoyed perks of Summer Jam, without the premiums of staying in the resort. We even got some awesome local folklore while catching some great photos at the old gas station! I hope to return in the winter, or maybe by myself, as another respite from the hustle and bustle of everything!

Disappointed
First, the good news... Overall, the house and property are very nice. The house is over 100 years old, but it has been renovated with nice touches. The kitchen has a pleasant retro feel. The living room has a comfortable reclining sofa and oversized chair/ottoman. The bathrooms contain modern tiled showers with pedestal sinks. The water quality/taste is very good. The beds are comfortable. It is a short walk to the Shenandoah River from the house. Now the bad news... we were expecting slow internet, but we were not expecting the internet to never work. Contacts to the owner proved fruitless, as she never seemed that concerned to resolve the issue or to check back to see if it started working. On Day 3 after a wet day of hiking, we used the dryer and found that it was filled with wet sheets. When using the dryer, we realized the dryer was venting into the utility room. Pulled the dryer away from the wall and realized that the vent was not connected and hadn't been connected for some time given the amount of lint on and around the dryer. We reconnected the dryer vent since we didn't expect any timely owner resolution. The kitchen cookware was below average unless you don't mind cooking in nonstick pans with 1/4 or so of the "teflon" surface missing. The owner should care more about the customer.

Spent Thanksgivings Day here
We loved staying here! We found the house to be very clean when we arrived. Kitchen has acceptable amount of dish and cookware to use even for Thanksgiving (but there were only 2 of us). Listing says Keurig coffee maker but there was a drip pot and a french press too. It was cold outside during our stay but this old house stayed nice and warm. The master suite with king size bed was heavenly.

We love this property!
This was our second time staying here. This time we brought our two grandsons. They loved swimming in the river, watching the train go by and generally exploring. They didn’t want to leave. They spent a lot of time in the tree swing and watching the bunnies “eat breakfast” in the early morning.

Family Fun Getaway
This property was fun for the whole family. It was quiet and peaceful with an occasional train that went by which my kids liked. The train was not bothersome to us. My kids really enjoyed all the bunnies that ran around on the property. They also enjoyed the packman game. Most of all we all enjoyed sitting by the river after a long day of hiking in Shenandoah, which was within reasonable distance. The beds were very comfortable as was the home overall. Our family definitely had a memorable time here and would highly consider staying again.

Everything we expected.
We had a great time. This is an old farmhouse, located away from the hustle and bustle. The town of Elkton is very close and has many things to do. This is a great place to unplug and relax and still easily get to thea main attentions in the area.

I’d like to suggest the following:
River can’t be seen from the house, many trains could be bothersome. Hand towel bar and some place to set clean clothes after a shower would be so helpful.

Great location
This was a a great location for our trip to Shenandoah National Park. The house is only about 20 minutes from a park entrance so it was easy to get in and start exploring every day. We also did other things in the area (Luray Caverns are great!) and took a drive over to Monticello one day. My kids loved that the river was a short walk through the trees and my son enjoyed fishing. We would stay here again if we are in the area.

Perfect little farm house
It was exactly as described. The River is a short walk through a mowed path just to the left of the property. Canoeing was great! We loved the whole vibe of the home and it was super clean. Would definitely stay here again. Didn’t bring our kids on this trip but this place is very kid friendly.

Very peaceful country getaway. Enjoyed fishing & campfire at rivers edge. Elkton is a cute little town with an entrance to the Shenandoah National Park. Hiking was spectacular. Very comfortable home with generous supplies and amenities

Beautiful property!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay and walking down to hangout by the river. We canoed as well and put in at the port about 8 miles up river and pulled back over at the house. The canoe trip was about 2 hours total. The host was super communicative and quickly answered any questions. There is a train that goes by and the tracks are adjacent to the property (you drive over them to enter the property). Would definitely stay again at the beautiful farm house!

Serene setting within close proximity of adventures
Clean and comfortable home. Love the old farm feel with some modern touches. The views are great, and the property allows for different relaxation settings, be it on the back deck enjoying a fire and a meal, or playing ball on the grounds, or relaxing by the river. Watching the cows from the kitchen table during morning coffee was a great way to wake up. We even enjoyed the train, although if you are a light sleeper bring a device to play some white noise... and who does not love cocktail pac man arcade!

My family and I had a wonderful time at this property, as we used it as a base to explore Shenandoah National Park. The property was large, private and also quiet, minus the occasional train passing through. The river access was just a 4-5 minute stroll from the house and was nice. As for the house itself, it has everything you possibly need. Just be aware though, that you will need to take all your trash with you off the property as there is no trash-pick up at the house. The refuse center is only like 10 minutes away however. Chrisi was responsive to all of our questions and concerns. We definitely want to visit again during the summer.
