Great location, clean, good amenities
Felt sorry for the one lady working breakfast, but she was doing an amazing job.

The room was fantastic. My daughter and I do this regularly so a wee upgrade was nice thank you. Delicious breakfast too.
So handy to everything …. Love the location.
Friendly staff too
Unfortunately the private hot pool wasn’t open…. That was a shame.

Staff and breakfast were both excellent, as was the location.
Apart from the bedroom itself, the 'one bedroom suite' we booked bore NO RESEMBLANCE to the photos of a 'one bedroom suite' on the website.
If I had seen photos showing what the lounge/kitchenette and bathroom actually looked like, I would not have considered booking. AND it was expensive!

Spacious room and quiet. Easy parking and 24 hour check in.
Room could have been a little warmer.

Beautiful period hotel in a perfect location with restaurant and bar and lovey ambience.
Rooms were very small and dated, they needed updating.

the main building is very charming
Our apartment was situated in an anex, and had very dated decor and large stain on the carpet. Very different vibe from the main hotel building.

Beautiful historic hotel in an ideal setting, a minutes walk away from the best places to eat and also a lovely park and of course the lake.
Room decor looking a little tired (wallpaper beginning to peel off)

It was a charming hotel with very friendly and efficient staff. The location was great for us as it was within walking distance of restaurants, pubs, and cafes.
The parking could be tight when they are busy.

Great position. Historical building near the Government Gardens. Easy walk to restaurants

The location was excellent and the place overall was very good, though my room was next to double doors that went out on to a balcony, which people seemed to do a lot and they banged the doors closed and pictures on my wall rattled!
As stated above, my room was adjacent to doors onto balcony and so wall rattled when doors closed by anyone going out and this meant 5 pictures on my wall rattled...so I took them off the wall for the rest of my stay.

Good location and enjoyed old world aspect of the facility
Had dinner at restaurant and was disappointed as we were expecting something great based on menu and photos and reviews but it was average and would not dine here again. Power point not working in kitchen, inadequate supplies( milk, coffee and sugar) for the price we could have found better but we’re going for something interesting and different - probably would not stay again

We enjoyed the history of the building and stepping back in time. Room was warm despite the heat pump turning completely off all the time. Bed comfy. Food is outstanding.
It was very cold going down to dinner as you have to go onto the balcony and down to the internal stairway to the dining room. Ok in summer but avoid it in winter.

the location is unsurpassed, easy parking, great central location and lovely views towards the museum and surrounds. the hot pools were heavenly though the private pool was closed for maintenance the entire week we were there. the rooms have seen their heyday pass by and are on the downward slope for major overhauls. I cannot fault the space we had in our 2 bedroom suite in the adjacent 1930's block but the furniture, fixtures and fittings are all in need of an update.
Kitchen contents are odd, chipped and the appliances could do with an upgrade. The furniture too needs a refresh and a new interior decorator to update style, colours and art etc. hot water and heating systems also need a review and update. Carpet/curtains need replacement. the Menu read wonderfully however the execution lacked esp with the Matariki special which was un recognisable from the menu and not at all up to the standard expected of such a lovely dinning room/hotel.

very well located, super nice staff and the hotel has its very own traditional environment very nice for guest who are ready to travel in time .
unfortunately I’m almost 2m tall and having a fixed head shower at 1,6m isn’t very inclusive for people like me.
