This cottage is like a dream come true! It’s so lush and beautiful! It’s well equipped with more than just the necessities. We didn’t have a chance to visit the cafe, but the host provided sweet bread, yogurt, coffee, and milk/juice in the fridge. The heater was necessary since we visited during the rainy season. The host took great care to reduce humidity and the impact of being in a rainforest as much as possible. The shower is to die for!

It’s a beautiful place to stay in rustic Volcano.my husband and I slept well loved the grounds and the host. The cottage is small meant for outside enjoyment but you’ll love it. Cabin in paradise.

This is a small beautiful cottage on a beautiful piece of property with many gardens with a Japanese theme. The windows are so clean you would think there is no glass. Very close to Volcanoe National Park which was a primary reason we booked. Old Volcanoe road is an artist community with many galleries showcasing local artist such as Ira ono.

Quiet, private cottage for 2. Very close to Volcano Natl park. Also convenient to Hilo airport. Lots of little touches, fruit, yogurt, fresh bread and milk in fridge. Books and dvds for rainy days. Not fancy, but clean and well appointed, at a reasonable price. Would stay again.

I wish other reviews for this property would have communicated how TINY this place is - because I would have never booked it if I knew how small it was. My husband & I stayed here and we each had 1 standard/large piece of luggage & we each had 1 carry on size luggage. There is literally NO room for luggage in this cottage. The pics of this place showed a nice bathroom and that is what sold me on this place - but the bathroom is the biggest square footage of the whole place. They jammed a queen size bed into a tight space - the bed is surrounded by 3 walls - only 1 side of the bed isn’t enclosed by a wall. So that means to get into the far side of the bed you have to crawl to the other side & to get out of bed you have to crawl on top of the other person to get out - because there is no room to walk around the bed. There is literally NO space to open a piece of luggage unless you use the bed, close it back up, and stand it vertical to store it in the small kitchen area. There is no bedroom - this is just a large bathroom & small kitchen. Our 4 pieces of luggage had to stand up in the kitchen - taking up ALL the space in the kitchen. The cottage is old, windows don’t close all the way, and the shower, although nice - is freezing cold bc it’s an open shower and there is no heat in this place besides a small space heater in the kitchen. Be prepared to carry your luggage 100ft to this place bc it’s a gravel path to enter & you can’t roll your luggage.

Lovely property, congenial Host. Only problem was that the bed took up almost the whole bedroom leaving very little room to get out of the bed from the right side.

Way too many VRBOs are managed by a company. This one is taken care of by its owner, and it shows. What a difference!
The cottage is small, but is well thought out. Everything is thoughtfully placed. Ira included a great number of groceries, which added value and gave us more time to enjoy our vacation. Did I mention clean? Most rentals give me a stuffy nose from hidden dirt; with this one I could breathe clearly through the night. The bed was more comfortable than most. The only bad part was our decision to stay for just three nights. We would have loved to stay longer, and will keep this one on the list of places to return. Thank you!

The attention to detail was unexpected and very thoughtful. Following our evening arrival, we were grateful to find everything we could want to get our vacation started here in this cozy, and well cared for cottage. Fresh bread, fruit, and other simple yet delightful items were provided that made our stay easy. The property is lovely, with plenty of unique, beautiful and creative garden spaces to saunter, relax and enjoy the natural environment in a private setting. The cafe and art gallery/shop are wonderful! So many artists represented and great stories regarding their craft. Ira is a warm and gracious host. We would love to stay here again.

Ira has cultivated an incredible gallery and café. The cabin itself is quite intimate but has everything you might need. The garden is absolutely stunning and you can't beat the proximity to Volcano National Park.

The gardens are so peaceful! The pics of the cottage don’t show how small it is but the gardens are so worth it. It should be noted that you can’t walk around to the far side of the bed. The bathroom is lovely and the cafe on site was great! There was lots to do in the area and there is a coin washer/dryer a couple blocks away if you need it. Great stay!

The cottage was cozy and comfortable. The grounds were beautiful and relaxing. I loved the sanctuary. This worked perfectly for us visiting the viewing area for the volcano each night.

This property had the best location as it was about 1 mile from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The cottage was located mid way back and on the side of the property. Ira was in his workshop when we arrived and greeted us personally. We could walk the entire property including the small nature garden in the back which was truly a special place. We also received a discount at the Gallery and Restaurant. Thank you for the great stay!

This rustic cottage is simple but comfortable. We actually found that the bed was great to sleep on. It is true that there is no AC, so it can get a little stuffy but the cool nights were great. The grounds are beautiful and location is excellent. Ira was incredibly friendly and a pleasure to meet. The Thai truck at the end of the street is delicious and should not be missed. Ira offers a discount at his café and gallery to his guests. The food at the café was delicious. The cottage was clean. It is somewhat tight quarters but adequate and a memorable experience. The proximity to volcanoes national park can’t be beat.

Cute cottage
The cottage was cute. There is no AC so make sure you know things can get stuffy during the day. At night, cooler temps so make sure to dress accordingly. The yogurt in fridge was past due date (May 02 was date and we stayed June 14) so we tossed it. There was no banana bread as stated in listing but a couple slices of rye bread was left. A few sodas and some milk were in fridge which was nice and coffee maker was a life saver.

Romantic cottage
This is my second time to stay here. It is very close to the National Volcano Park so it makes a great place to stay after spending the day/evening in the park. The cottage is very compact and romantic! The host is very helpful. There is also an art shop on the property for shopping!

Cozy cabin with pleasant host
This very clean and cozy cabin is located on a large property on which there is also the host’s vegetarian restaurant ( open for lunch only ) and art studio in lush garden surroundings. The host was very friendly, helpful, and hospitable and greeted us upon arrival. The cabin was clean and well equipped but, aside from the bathroom, which was huge, a much smaller living space than expected. There is not really a bedroom - more of a sleeping nook that is walled off from the entry/ kitchen area with no space around the bed at all. The entry/ kitchen area was also very tiny - and we found it awkward to prepare a simple breakfast since sitting down at the small table blocks access to utensils etc. Its felt like one of those “ tiny homes” I’ve seen on TV. We had 2 roll aboard bags, and two small backpacks and a laptop and had no room to place this small amount of luggage. Also the listing stated banana bread and fresh fruit and cereals would be provided for breakfast. There was no banana bread. The fruit offering for two of us for two days was disappointing especially considering we were surrounded by tropical fruit trees in the area: two tangerines an apple that was rotten, a papaya that was moldy on one side and a couple bananas. For cereal, there was only a plastic container with bland store bought granola that did not taste fresh. There were some yogurts and milk in the fridge. Despite these issues, we had a pleasant stay - the small heating unit worked well since it was cool and rainy outside. There were thoughtful amenities such as flashlights and large umbrellas. The bathroom in this cottage was huge with a large open shower area. We appreciated the extra towels provided since the towels never really dried due to the humid climate. Nice toiletries were provided as well. The location was good for visiting Volcano National park- just a few minutes drive. Thanks to Ira, our host, for the warm welcome and hospitality. We had a pleasant stay.

Peaceful one with nature
Came on a rainy day- it was wonderful- cozy restful listening to the rain falling on the roof. Just felt like all cares were washing away and even our bones were relaxing.
The grounds - fairy tale setting- healing experience just walking through the garden.
Can not say enough about Ira! He was interesting welcoming and loved meeting him! Missed eating eating at on-site Cafe Ono- except dessert which was delicious.
Enjoyed the activities nearby and great food
- ( (Dimple Cheek Cafe) best food in Hawaii (portions are LARGE so do not not over order)
Would return in a heartbeat to this romantic cottage!!

Home at the Volcano
My husband and I stayed for two. Igor’s while exploring VNP. We felt right at home, enjoyed the zen shower, the delicious fruits, the beautiful gardens, and eating at Cafe Ono. Unfortunately, the hot tub was out of order, however, Ira made it right by giving us a lunch voucher to Cafe Ono.

Small place but great location
Place was a little smaller than even the listing shows. There's not really space for more than 1 or 2 pieces of luggage so we had to take out what we thought we'd use and leave the luggage in the car. Also the jacuzzi and cafe were closed during our whole stay which was a little disappointing but the area was very nice.

Magical experience
We were so pleased with the lovely artist cottage. It had everything we needed and more. For upcoming guests, the kitchenette is complete and with the outdoor grill, you can do anything. Eating at Ira’s cafe was icing on top. I would love to live there if I could.
