The garden , old fashioned . Very pleasant breakfasts .
We had a front room which was noisy ( traffic)on the Sunday morning
It would have helped if we had been told that there were no leads on the EV chargers which meant we couldn’t charge the car as planned
4.3
Great dog friendly hotel. Lovely location - although quite noisy on a front facing room. Delicious food in Monty’s Inn.
Quite a high supplement for bringing our dog just for one night.
4.3
the location and the building and its gardens.
they were very short staffed so tables weren't kept clear and service was very slow.
The staff were good but had too much to do.

I loved everything. The hotel, staff, food, and location were perfect .
The cleanliness and exceptional luxury of the hotel were outstanding, and the food was awesome.
Luxury luxury luxury at every turn.
We'll return soon.
There was nothing to dislike..it was perfect, everything was perfect

Location and staff were exceptional

Lovely accommodation and setting
Fire alarm woke us at 12.20 am, hardly any sleep after that. Spoilt our stay as only there for one night to celebrate anniversary. Maybe an offer of token reduction on bill would at least have been acknowledgement of our disrupted stay...
Breakfast toast was from standard sliced loaf, expected better from such an establishment
4.3
wonderful rooms, patio and garden, amazing food
cigarette smoke coming into the room from guest smoking at the outside tables at the front

Style, room, service
A bit noisy

Breakfast was excellent
Courtyard room (moved from house feature as too noisy) was stunning (rm 48)
Sitting around the water feature was wonderful and very relaxing
Breakfast staff very friendly
The most gorgeous setting and gardens
Feature room 7 had serious traffic noise in the afternoon and from 6am (we moved to a Courtyard Room)
The bar menu needs a few more inspiring lighter options (charcueterie meat was not tasty and chicken liver pate needed something extra) if you don't feel like a big meal - maybe a refreshing salad

The location was beautiful. The staff were friendly and approachable. We only had breakfast at the hotel but this was very good. Air conditioning in the room was a real bonus.
The bathroom suite was a little tired looking. Could do with an upgrade.

The room was great. Effective but quiet air con. Excellent bathroom with big bath and separate walk-in shower. Lounge upstairs with two sofas and a coffee machine and fridge and kettle. In Monty's in the food was excellent and they let you try the beer before ordering. The evening meal was excellent. The breakfast also excellent. The small garden was a delight, with lots of interest in the flowers and vegetables. We had a game of croquet.
No acceptable real beer in Monty's inn. Some delay to the serving of the food.

Lovely relaxing overnight stay. Special mention for the Italian gentlemen on reception ( sorry can't remember his name). Very helpful/happy and polite 😀. Beautiful location by the river.

Breakfast was excellent. Wonderful selection and choice. Eggs perfectly cooked. Service was swift and attentive.
The hotel was extremely hot as the radiators were all on full heat and sleeping was difficult as the windows couldn’t be opened in the room which made the room too warm.
Very disappointed with the on site restaurant which had an extremely limited menu and was overpriced.

We booked the Montagu Arm’s to end a week travelling around Dorset & Hampshire, unfortunately it was an incredibly disappointing experience. We stayed over the late May bank holiday in room 9, and sadly it was clear this room hadn’t seen any love, or even a good clean for a long time. The Room itself had battered walls, a stained carpet, spider webs between the glazing, peeling paintwork, and an extremely small queen bed. However, the main problems lay with the aging, limescale ridden bathroom, with pipes that squeaked and squealed all night long, a broken door lock, a knackered toilet bowl, a broken sink, a shower that may look passable in any 70s bathroom and visibly mouldy grouting.
Trying to put the disappointment of the poor room behind us, we embarked on an (admittedly late, 8pm) Sunday evening roast at Monty’s. Whilst I’m sure this would have been great at lunch time, at this time of the evening, it was, at best, lacklustre, as whilst the meat and gravy were good, the “Roast Leg of New Forest Lamb - Roast Potatoes, Mint Sauce, Seasonal Vegetables” came without mint sauce, and with fridge temperature seasonal veg. When this was fed back, the waiting staff did do their best to rectify it, and were apologetic, but with only 6 mains on offer, it’s disappointing to be missing key ingredients.
As someone who’s spent 20 years working in hospitality, I’ve seldom felt the need to leave a bad review, but the honest reason that has motivated me to write this was the attitude of the gent on check out. I fed back my disappointment about the room, to which he got extremely defensive and responded: “Well, you booked a basic room, and you booked via booking.com”– The “basic room” was £230 for the night, but was well below the standard of every other hotel we stayed in that week, many of which were half this price. I wasn’t asking for a refund or money off, I just wanted them to listen to my feedback and understand how disappointing the room was.

The hotel's location is excellent on the edge of Beaulieu.
There was plenty of parking at the rear of the hotel, but was a long walk with a suitcase to reception. The building is old and interesting.
The breakfast very nice.
We stayed in a double room (Spruce Number 29) it was at the back of the hotel and over looked an untidy yard. Not what I expected to be honest. The tree branches outside kept banging on the window.
At midnight and 7.00am we were woken by trollies being moved around outside.
The shower was over the bath, my husband being over 6ft couldn't get under the shower.
We were told to book a timeslot for breakfast, but was clearly told NOT 9am. We booked 8.30am expecting a stampede of people at 9.00, but no - Not sure what that was all about.
We never ate in either restaurant as they do not serve Chicken, which is the only meat we eat. We did have a drink in Monty's and the bar tender was very knowledgeable, however the tables outside were full of empty glasses and plates which another group asked for them to be cleaned.
Would I recommend to friends - not really.

Dinner was excellent, the room was very comfortable and well equipped. The staff were fabulous - nothing was too much trouble. We loved walking in the gardens and sitting in them for a pre- dinner drink. The Montegu flapjack in our room was SO tasty and we were even sent on our way with a gift of a bottle of water and an apple.
I think this is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.
The poached egg was overcooked!!

Beautiful location. The staff were very professional and approachable. The building was historic and the bedrooms very comfortable. The gardens approaching the Reception were a delight and very fragrant. The food was delicious.

Amazing location, beautiful hotel and gardens.
Breakfast was very poor, as we had to wait over 30 minutes for it to arrive and neither of us were able finish it as my husbands full English was burnt and had no bacon and my poached egg was cold and the avocado was hard and delivered on the side, rather than smashed on the sourdough. Dinner at Montys was also disappointing. Both let this hotel down.
4.3
Excellent breakfast in our room.
We liked it all!

perfect location

nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the environment was very relaxed and calming
mattress a little too soft and your pillow could slip down the gap at the top of the bed

We booked a last minute day/night here when we found ourselves drenched and uncomfortable.on a boating holiday. Afternoon coffee in a wood panelled lounge, cocktails in a library, and the dinner in The Terrace was out of this world. Fabulous framed historical documents on the walls, too. We will definitely be back.
4.3
breakfast good and location
after coming to this hotel from USA your main dining room is not open monday or tuesday
The dining room next door was very very disappointing. Booked for a meal at 6.pm at 8.20 we were still waiting for desert, however the next table who arrived 1 hr after us was being served the same desert that I had ordered.
My respose was to walk out. It is a shame that after nearly 60 years of patrionage my last memories of a gorgious place is disappointing

The staff went above and beyond what one could expect
