The location was great and the staff at reception.
We have two rooms. My daughter’s room was not very clean. The window was super small and they couldn’t open the window much to ventilate the room. So it was super hot and stuffy. The breakfast was a completely disaster. They did not have decaffeinated coffee for my elderly mother. They ask us to wait to be taken our order for over 25mins as the kitchen was overwhelmed. In fact what happened, there was only one person at the kitchen and one person serving the tables. The quality of the food was below average and the food came cold. The second day one of my daughters and my mum decided not to have any hot food for breakfast as it was not worth it. It is a pity but it is too expensive for what they offer.

Location - perfect, across from the Fitzwilliam Museum and an easy walk to the town centre.
• Front desk was often unstaffed as the staff were running around the hotel doing work.
• Hotel pillow case for one of the four pillows was put on inside out – and it stayed that way for 3 days. The pillow was moved around by the room staff, but never fixed.
• When I arrived, there was a face cloth. The next day it was gone. I asked at the desk for one and was told “we’ve run out”. Over the 8 days, I had a face cloth 4 times. On the last day, I was missing both the face cloth and a hand towel.
• The telephone in my room never worked the entire time I was there – I told the desk about this on day one and because it was the weekend, they didn’t feel anyone could address it. Apparently, no one could address it all week because it was still not working when I left.
• I returned to my room one night to find the hot water tap in the bathroom running – left by the cleaning staff. I couldn’t turn it off either and had to hear it running all night. I couldn't' complain to the desk because the phone wasn’t working.
• As a single woman travelling and dining in the hotel, I frequently felt ignored - no one checked after the food was served, although they visited other table, and it was surprising in a hotel that specializes in wine that no one every consulted on wines or, one time, even brought the wine I'd ordered.
• The toaster tray at breakfast was filled with crumbs and clearly wasn’t cleaned out very often
• The elevator smelled like old food.
I was looking forward to staying here because my earlier stay had been outstanding (pre-Covid). Now it just felt like no one was watching how the business was running - and it wasn't running to a 4* level.

Beautiful hotel in an excellent location. The room was quiet and tasteful, a very comfortable bed, and a huge bathroom. Extra special room details like espresso coffee, a variety of teas, and bottled water were very much appreciated. The included breakfast was both delicious and nutritious. And the staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Great location, clean and comfortable rooms. Quiet.
Plug was broken in bedroom so I couldn’t remove it to flush water away. Breakfast buffet was more meagre than usual and the avocado toast was swimming in oil. Staff were efficient but a bit ‘grumpy’ .

Friendly staff, lovely building and furnishing. Very comfortable bed and superb shower.
Whilst the bar is a great place to spend some time with vaulted ceilings and lovely break out rooms it was very cold.

Great location in easy walking distance to shops and restaurants
Very good breakfast
- We had a junior suite on the top floor and it was so hot that we had to keep the window open (in December). It was impossible to turn the heating down.
- The reception staff were surly and rude. We arrived at midday and the room wasn't ready (fair enough) but when I asked roughly how long the room would be it was met with a rude 'check in is at 3pm'. I was well aware of this but wanted to understand an estimate of how much time we needed to kill. Requests for a later check out were met with similar hostility.
- Nice L'Occitane products in the shower but they were all empty

One night stay for New Year's Eve with supper in restaurant. Lovely deluxe room at the rear of the hotel. Restaurant staff were great even though it was busy. Been to this HDV several times and it is a lovely hotel in a great location, and so easy to walk into Cambridge. Also easy to walk to Grantchester, quickly out into countryside.
New Year's Eve rowdies at 0230!
