About this house rental
The Olde Granary is situated in the quiet and peaceful county of Suffolk, set within the heart of a small family owned arable farm, it offers beautiful views of the Stour Valley countryside, traditional farm buildings and an old windmill.
The granary conversion has a wealth of character with exposed beams, vaulted ceilings and solid oak joinery features. The property has everything to make a restful stay with a balcony double bedroom, modern shower room, spacious reception room/dining area and oak framed conservatory lounge, with TV and DVD player. The kitchen is well equipped with a fan oven, hob, grill, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge freezer and washing machine. There is a large garden and patio area for enjoying the quiet countryside settings, with the added benefit of ample off-road parking.
Due to the heritage of the building, there is a structural beam which crosses through the bedroom. This may not be suitable for anyone with reduced mobility. Please see the pictures.
From this peaceful location you can enjoy many local footpaths with picturesque views. The market town of Clare is approximately 1 mile away and with its fascinating history offers plenty of attractions such as period architecture, 13th century Augustinian Priory, Country Park, the stone keep ruins of Clare Castle and Ancient House Museum. Clare is well served with a small supermarket, cashpoint, tearoom, deli, local shops, pubs and eateries, golf course and fishing lakes.
From this idyllic location you can reach many local historic villages, such as Long Melford and Lavenham. The Market town of Sudbury is only 10 miles away. The towns of Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Cambridge and Colchester are within an hours drive and the beautiful coastline of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex are just over an hour away. Transport links are good; the nearest train station is Sudbury and closest Airport is London Stansted, which is just under 1 hour away.

The Granary was very well equipped. Clean, tidy and comfortable, The view across the fields from the patio was beautiful and the full moon breathtaking. The beam in the bedroom was not a problem for us and made it a quirky place to stay. The ideal location to explore Suffolk. Roger and Anna came to say Hello, super friendly people.

Really enjoyed our time at the granary conversion, it is a very quant building with beautiful views. It was warm, very clean and had everything you needed. I think the only drawback was climbing the beam and stairs to go to the loo at night!

We stayed in Clare for a week and absolutely loved this place, as well as the surrounding area. The Old Granary is spacious, immaculately clean and quiet. It’s location was perfect for us with lots of walking, pubs, charming old buildings and within easy driving distance of other unique places. Anna and Roger were welcoming, helpful and fun. It’s a really well appointed cottage, and the sun room is perfect for relaxing in. We will definitely be returning!

Had a great time staying at The olde Granary in Clare. It's a wonderful location just a 30min walk into the town to the local pubs and tea rooms. No more than 30/40m=ins from all the major sights. Hosts Roger and Anna went the extra mile and some to make our stay the best it could have been, Thank you so much.

Lovely stay
Our first surprise was it is bigger than we first thought, certainly downstairs. The property is very well equipped and in a lovely location, with beautiful views we never tired of. Early evening we’d see badgers and a fox which was lovely.
Roger and Anna were very welcoming and we knew they were on hand if we needed them.
It was a very enjoyable stay, wished we’d stayed longer.

Just needs tweaking
Lovely property. Cleaning was lacking. I had to hoover up about 30 flies on entering the property. Not my favourite activity… especially when I’m on holiday. Even though we didn’t see any flying around, they continued to fall from somewhere through our stay. There were cobwebs from the sloping roof to the bed, more hoovering. And when we woke the first morning, there were two flies on the bed! Other than that, the place is charming. A couple of comfy chairs for evening would make it even better.

The Old Granary, Chilton Street
We had a lovely stay here. The Old Granary is a perfect getaway for two. The mezzanine-bedroom was a good size and very comfortable and the beam across the floor was no issue for us. We wanted a well-equipped kitchen so we could easily prepare meals and we weren't disappointed. We enjoyed spending our evenings in the sun-room with the doors open to the great outdoors and we really appreciated the outdoors eating area. We weren't too disappointed to get away from technology for a few days but the wifi signal was weak. The setting for The Old Granary is lovely, looking out to beautiful, peaceful countryside. We wanted to explore Suffolk and East Anglia and it was a great base for doing so - the countryside and villages thereabouts are so picturesque and tranquil, and we found some great eateries and lots to do. We'd very happily return.

Ideal base for our visit
Fantastic base for our trip to see sites in Suffolk, Essex & Cambridgeshire. Set in a quiet hamlet with fast links to the surrounding area. Accommodation is a converted granary barn with a sunny conservatory overlooking a large vegetable/flower garden & open fields. As the original roof beams have been retained at bedroom floor level, the accommodation would not be suitable for those of limited mobility. We received a lovely welcome from the owners with many personal touches which made us feel very welcome.

Superb accommodation, perfect location.
The Granary is a perfect retreat for anyone who is looking for a restful holiday in Suffolk. Situated close to the charming town of Clare, it is positioned in easy driving distance from many places of historical and cultural interest. From here we were able to explore the countryside associated with the painter John Constable as well as the Fen Land, Ely and Cambridge. The property is a beautifully converted granary barn, comfortable and intriguing. The hosts, Anna and Roger were splendidly hospitable and helpful in every way.

Perfect cottage
We stayed here sir 10 days in December. The cottage was very clean and cozy. The view from the living area is so peaceful and quiet. We had 100% everything we needed. The kitchen was so well equipped that we could easily have lived there for a year. We were very fortunate that it was available when we wanted. Highly recommend this property.

Great property
Overall a very well-appointed property. However the downstairs toilet and large beam at near floor level in the bedroom makes this not ideal for older, less mobile guests. We are elderly and were able to cope but others might not be able to.

Superb Cosy Stay
This is a lovely property for two in an old granary which has been tastefully done out, with views over the open countryside. It has everything you need and lots of local walks from the door. Spent an October week here and would have loved to have stayed longer.

Staycation
On arrival at the Olde Granary we let ourselves in and all I can say is Wow. It was so much more than we expected. It was lovely and clean and had everything we needed. We met Roger and Anna and they were so lovely. We were so relaxed for the week we didnt want to leave. It would be lovely to visit again any time of the year as the cottage was very cosy and warm. Such a beautiful spot and enjoyed the peace and tranquility. Thank you both for a perfect time.

A characterful, comfortable and relaxing stay
The Olde Granary is a wonderful place to stay - light spacious, very comfortable and well-equipped. Anna and Roger made us feel very welcome and had provided extra cleaning materials in view of the Covid-19 situation. We thoroughly enjoyed walks and picnics in the Suffolk countryside, cooking local ingredients and eating al fresco on the patio. The gorgeous weather was a bonus! Thank you for a very relaxing week.

Excellent accommodation
Well equipped accommodation and the features of the original building have been maintained. Good location for exploring the surrounding area and lovely views. The owners are really friendly and helpful.

Excellent.
Great property for rent. Lovely soft towels are always a good sign that the property is going to be good. We only had one slight criticism. That is that the bed was too small for us (4' 6'') & it creaked a lot. I appreciate the space was small - perhaps 2 singles might be better? Otherwise an excellent break in a beautiful part of the Country.
