The bdrms have a King, a Queen and a Full beds and there's a couch and roll away single on site as well for up to 8 guests.
Located 2 blocks from State St for nightlife and restaurants, this vacation home is walk-able from the Train station and 7 blocks to the ocean. More info is available at 'location.rocks'.
The Original House is a functional 1905 home directly downtown in Santa Barbara. This is not a boutique or high end rental, and does not try to be. Instead it is highly functional with a modern washer and dryer, a full kitchen and plenty of comfort and usefulness for up to 3 couples to each have a room and bath, and to gather in common areas like being at home (instead of a hotel lobby).
Because it is still the most often question we are asked; is it really 3 bedrooms? Yes!, 3 bedrooms each with its own full bath in each bedroom; 3 showers, 3 tubs, etc. The baths are small but each have a full tub/shower. 2 of the baths were added to the home during the last 100 years and were made to be small to fit.
There is a porch or 'stoop' and a sitting area in the front and off street parking in the rear yard. Smoking is not allowed inside but in the yard and outdoor areas it is allowed.
The solid wood red oak floors are newly refinished and an attic forced air heater brings modern comfort to an original home from another era. Haley feels very much like a period farmhouse, with large airy rooms and a very inviting overall feel. Not a new house, but everything works and it is a comfortable and practical home for your use. We put a portable AC out during the warm 3-4 weeks of the year in SB, and this will make the kitchen and living room area more comfortable. It will not cool all the rooms but after dark you can open up so near the ocean, and the house is cool at night.
General Information. Please look this over.
Pets
We are pet owners and invite pets without upfront extra fee's. The floors are all hard surfaces and pretty much pet friendly. There is a fenced yard. If your pet causes visible soiling or pet hair in the home there is an excellent vacuum in one of the closets to stay away from extra cleaning fees due to the pet. Using the yard for non clipped nail pets and/or excitable pets will avoid possible damage. We do have a Pet Fee of $50 if we find beach sand or pet hair inside and any manner of pet waste which has been left for our crew to clean up inside or out. We want pet owners to have a no cost option, however you must mitigate extra cleaning caused by any pet. Vacuuming pet hair and light mopping a rooms floor if needed is an owner responsibility to avoid charges. Using the fenced yard (see pictures) and limiting the pet time inside might be a good minimization for instance.
Parking
The House has a driveway and rear parking for 2 cars, however 3 smaller modern cars will fit. The rear parking lot is designed to allow turning around to make it easier and safer to exit to the street. But there is room to get 4 or 5 cars off the street in a pinch. All but the final 2 or so will have to back out, old fashion style. There is street parking which can go quickly. Watch out for the weekly street cleaning hours!
Noise
The House is 2 blocks off State Street in Santa Barbara making this a genuine urban rental, complete with city sounds. Especially Friday and Saturday nights there may be street noise which will impact the front bedroom. Car sounds and foot steps on the sidewalk, etc. The other nights are noticeably better, but bear in mind that the most forward bedroom will not be the quietest one. A good alternative 'master' may be the rear bedroom which also has the exit to the back.
One room is smaller:
The middle bedroom is the smallest. We still have a queen in there for an excellent nights sleep. But there is not much room other than the bed and the bathroom. Good closest space though!
Infants and children:
This home is remodeled and designed for adults, tourists and traveling business persons. We welcome young children but at the same time do not recommend young children. The hardwood floors are far better than whatever might be in a hotel carpet. We vacuum, Pine Sol mop and rinse between EVERY guest stay. But we do not represent a clinically perfected environment and ask that you use baby blankets and normal hotel tactics to protect crawling young ones. Sometimes new parent bring expectations of hospital perfect surfaces and we are unable to please these guests to that level.
Walkability
Can you do a family trip to Santa Barbara and forego the car? You can at this House, in downtown Santa Barbara. You can Amtrak in using rolling luggage and walk to the Haley House ( about 5-7 blocks).
Air Conditioning
NOTE: Air Conditioning is rarely needed in the beach town of Santa Barbara. However there will be 2-3 weeks a year that can become uncomfortable. We have added Air Conditioning to our rental, however it is a portable model kept in a closet, and requires rolling near the living room window and attaching the hose and fitted bracket to operate it. If you close the bedroom doors this unit is sized to be effective for the living room/kitchen combined area, and help you avoid hot days. This is not central air. The evenings will be cool again and the whole house will be comfortable overnight in all the rooms. If you are here during a heat wave we will give you the combination to unlock the AC and you may use it. If the weather is normal we do not offer the AC, which is costly to run. Should you request it when the weather is 75 or less (because you wish for it) we can accommodate with a charge to cover the costs.
This district of Santa Barbara is unique and contains some of its original 19th century roots. The Haley House is 2 blocks from the corner of Haley and State, and until the Freeway was brought through Santa Barbara in the 1950's, the main drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco ran along Haley Street ( coming from Milpas, not out front of the Haley House ), then a right turn onto State Street to head North again toward the lemon groves and then on to Gaviota, and on.
The original cut stone curbing tells the old story of the neighborhood and it was easy to go out the door and down the street 5 blocks to the ocean back then. Now it takes 7 blocks so you can walk to State first and then under the Freeway. The train station dates to the time of Haley House as well, and this marked a new era for Santa Barbara. Prior to the trains arrival in 1899 and the station being finished in 1905, the only way in to SB was over the San Marcos Pass by stage couch or by ship, which would dock at Stern's Wharf. The wood work and lumber for the Haley house likely arrived dry at the location having been off loaded from Sterns Wharf. And not floated in from the barges as they did prior to the Wharf's arrival. Stern's Wharf is still the oldest operating Wharf in the West, serving people more than cargo these days. There are a dozen cruise ships that call on SB annually as well.
Haley House is still at the heart of SB, not in the rich foothills of the Mission or the glam of Montecito, but in the everyday area in the origin of Santa Barbara. Walk to nightlife and back home again. See the SB International Film Festival in January or the SB Fiesta in August. Come stay and visit the County Bowl for a concert! SB is a mile every 10 blocks, and the whole of downtown SB is within your reach from the Haley House within that distance or less.

This house was great for our family time in Santa Barbara. The description of the house was well done so we knew exactly what to expect. The location is so walkable to downtown and we really enjoyed our time. We knew it would be a bit noisy in the front bedroom because of the description so we brought earplugs!

This was a great Vacation, the property was clean and comfortable and within walking distance to the beach and shops. We are definitely coming back to this place.

We stayed for a family birthday. The house was spotlessly clean and just perfect for our needs. We love old houses with character this one has it. Its a bit noisy but not bad. I loved that it has a bathroom in each room. They are very small but serve the purpose and so convenient. Perfect location and David is the perfect host. Kind. polite and very accommodating.
4.7
This house was perfect for our family weekend, easily accommodating 6 adults. The house was clean and had everything we needed. The location is super convenient – just a short walk to State St.
So thankful we could bring our dogs. The fenced-in front yard was perfect for them. We would stay here again.

The home was great and had plenty of parking. Everything we wanted to do was in walking distance from the house. However, the bed sizes were different than what was in the listing. That being said, we would book this property in the future.
4.7
It was a comfortable stay though sinks in two of the bathrooms were incredibly tiny with slow water flow.

We had a fabulous time! Great location and comfortable.

Very accommodating host. Great location Comfortable

My family was completely satisfied with our stay at this home. It's handsome on the outside, and inside you've got beautiful wood floors, tall ceilings, and bullseye molding throughout. Best thing was its location. We could walk to the pedestrian section of State Street--a good feature if you're doing an Urban Wine Trail and don't want to drive.
4.7
A quaint old Santa Barbara craftsman. Perfect location for our needs. 2 blocks to State st. The beach was definitely a drive, easy if you could bicycle there. The portable AC was efficient but vey loud. Many of the windows did not open. New ceiling fans in the entire house would have helped air movement. Overall, we enjoyed the place, but it could use a bit of TLC. Thank you D and crew.

Nice place and location. It was nice having 3 bathrooms with our 3 daughters. Nice long driveway. Management company very helpful and friendly.

just a BEAUTIFUL weekend in a BEAUTIFUL home at the PERFECT location im Santa Barbara! The owners have miraculously added & updated the inside to accommodate 6 adults while maintaining the quaint, lovely historical nature of the house. superb location, walking distance to everywhere. Kudos to David for his prompt responses to my questions & thorough instructions before & during our stay. can't wait to visit again!

The place was perfect for a group. Charming, clean, plenty of sleep space and bathrooms. Location was excellent as we were able to walk everywhere for shopping, eating and night life. Would definitely stay here again.
4.7
The property was as stated. An updated older house that was perfect for a group. Three bathrooms is not usually found especially in older homes. Was also clean.
4.7
Walking distance to so much, beach, restaurants, shops

Rented this for family and friends to use in town. It was as advertised, people appreciated their own restrooms. David was great!

My group had a wonderful stay here! Clean & within a 5 minute walk to State Street. We were able to fully enjoy Santa Barbara in peace. Thanks to David for being a great host too.

Loved our two night stay at the Haley House. Would highly recommend. So thankful we could bring our dog. And such an easy walk to local cafes, restaurants, and speciality shops.

Charming little house was our perfect little getaway. We came to town with friends for a wedding and had an amazing time. It’s an easy walk to state street, restaurants, the beach. We’re so happy with our choice and had a great time. They were responsive, flexible, and check in and check out were very easy. 10/10, would stay here again
4.7
Had a great time in this 100+ y/o house. It had everything our group, with ages ranging from 70 to 95, needed. Don’t expect a modern looking house, enjoy the eccentricities associated with a house of this vintage. Great communications with owner, very helpful. Our mother left a small makeup bag, and they mailed it out to her, making her day. We would definitely stay here again!
4.7
The property was just as expected. Great location in terms of proximity to nearby state street and ocean. Not a luxury retreat rather a practical one and like that we could park our 2 cars behind the house away from the busy road and the yard was perfect for our small dog.
4.7
Location fantastic, super to have 3 bedrooms and baths. 2 portable beds allowed switching around space for kids. D’Angelo bread down the street was great.
4.7
This was a good fit for 5 adults and 1 child (age 6) as each family group had own space, as well as shared space.
4.7
Overall a great place to stay in SB. Walking distance to lots of things.
2 of the bedrooms have exterior doors. good for adults, a little unsettling for parents.
Not all of the showers and sinks work properly.
Enjoyed the house!

My friends and I came to Santa Barbara for a surf and beach weekend, but were forced to hunker down inside most of the time by rain storms that pummeled California. And this house was a perfect place for the six of us to hang out! David was very responsive and helpful to questions about the property, and seemed very happy to have us around. Thanks, David!
4.7
Loved our stay! The house was exactly as described. It was a perfect setup for our family. Close to the beach and State Street. It was extremely clean. We would definitely stay here again.

Highly recommend this property. The house was very clean, stocked and comfy. It was easily within walking distance to a myriad of restaurants and stores. Owner was very responsive and pleasant to communicate with.
4.7
Clean(most important), great location, off street parking(2 RAVs and Prius), well stocked. Older property, but charming. Description of property accurately reflects rental. Good communication, quick response appreciated.
4.7
Nice clean house. Great location. Would use it again.
4.7
The property was very old and not updated. However that is part of the charm. It was well stocked. The one thing that stands out when I think of this property is the dead animal carcass that had to have been there for months on the front step.
4.7
We had a great stay — the host is very responsive and was accommodating to allow us check in early. Place was very clean and location is fantastic. It was an unusually hot weekend, but the host was sure to have the portable AC unit out and ready for us. Photos and video tour available online are accurate. Overall good stay!
4.7
Amazing place to stay. Owner absolutely fabulous. Everything so close. Place to park. 100% recommend this location

There are 3 bedrooms with 3 small bathrooms. It's an older home, as stated in the listing. Kitchen is functional and convenient! Coffee and creamer were a nice touch. The beds aren't super luxurious but sufficient after a long day. Good for 3 couples or a family of 6 at any time of the year BUT NOT summer. The host claims it's a Coastal town and it's 60-65F at night, but with the windows closed and no AC, the inside of the home stayed in the high 70s for us till about 3am. I live in a mountain home near Santa Cruz with no AC and am very familiar with what needs to be done to cool a home in summer.
I've stayed at over 70+ rentals in the last 4 years and high 70s - that's too warm!
We arrived at 10pm in early August. The host told us they would open windows for us at 6pm to cool the house. Most of the windows don't open because they're painted shut, and no one had come by to open the few that do open. It was about 78F in the home till about 2am when it dropped to 75F.
The host did provide a room cooler that cools the living room and front bedroom by 3-4 degrees compared to the rest of the house. It was still uncomfortable for half the night even in the front room.
Since we only rented the place to sleep and shower, our stay wasn't comfortable.
The access is pretty rough for an SUV/truck. We had a forerunner. When we drove up cops were lining the street, and we had to drive past the home, not enough room on an a narrow street to back into the NARROW driveway. After that, looping back was hard because lanes are one way. Finally made it back and had 4 cars pull up behind us while reversing into the driveway. Too crowded.
For a family, this is a bit of a rough neighborhood. An ambulance and fire truck pulled up at 1am down the block, making a racket. All manner of sober and drunk folks walking up and down the street in front of the house till late hours on a Wednesday, can't imagine it on a weekend. The yard is small, so the patio and front room are about 15 ft away from the sidewalk... Which made it impossible for us to let our dog out of the house with with that many strangers so close. So our dog panted in the hot indoors.
Patio is v small but fun for 2-3 people to sit on and enjoy a drink. The yard is a bit unkept and the concrete walkway is very uneven, walking from the back where the car is, to the front entrance.
We will not be staying here again, but it could be fun for younger folks wanting the night life!
4.7
We enjoyed the house and the location to downtown was great. The driveway is a little tricky to get out of on the street, some of the windows were painted shut so we could not open them to get a coastal cross breeze in the house.
4.7
This little house is exactly how it is described! There is nothing fancy about it. What it does have going for it is….. location, location, location PLUS….. Parking!!!! Which is amazing and oh so wonderful! And let’s face it…. Your staying in Santa Barbara! You shouldn’t be in a house/room. Your supposed to be enjoying the town-the restaurants and the beach! Yes, I’d stay there again.
