About this house rental

Having traveled the world, I appreciate people from all cultures and proclivities. I welcome you, your family, friends and pets to enjoy my family home, which is tastefully curated with art, books and antiques collected for generations. I lovingly tend the 1/2 acre of gardens which you are welcome to explore. One of my greatest joys in life is to offer my piece of paradise to the world.

The county of Santa Barbara has a strict NO PARTIES rule. Max 8 people can gather here.

You will be staying in a farm house built in 1900, which has been consciously updated since 2016. The interiors reflect the bohemian roots of my artistic family. Art work from around the world adorns the walls. Asian carpets cover the original oak floors. There are collections of books in almost every room. A Steinway piano, a six string guitar and a baritone ukelele await being played.

Each bedroom offers beds covered in quality organic cotton or bamboo sheets. There are also ceiling fans, black out curtains, white noise machines, and AppleTvs in each bedroom. The kitchen can accommodate preparations for elaborate meals with all the cooking appliances, bake ware, pans and implements that you may need.

New 8 person Jacuzzi installed in May 2022!

The entire property set up with a mesh ethernet system that provides up to 1 gig mbps on a computer and 400 mbps on a phone, not only in the house but throughout the garden as well, so if you need to work, you can do it inside or outside.

Security cameras watch the parking area and the driveway. There is a Ring doorbell and camera at the back entrance to the house next to the driveway for your security.

***Your safety and privacy are important to me! That being said, this house may not be the best fit for the differently abled. The floors are uneven and the gardens are on the wilder side. Shoes should be worn outside at all times. ***

To enhance your relaxation, I can set up a number of in-home activities and experiences for your party, including massage by skilled professional massage therapists, sound bath, well as babysitting.

In May, the lemons and oranges are ripe. The giant bird of paradise, hibiscus, canna, Mexican sage and geraniums bloom throughout the year. In the fall, persimmons, loquats, pomegranates, nectarines, almonds and grapes are ripe. The garden has just gotten certification as a wild life habitat by the National Wildlife Association. Come relax. Enjoy country life and all Santa Barbara has to offer. The guests have full access to the house and surrounding gardens.

The house entry is with coded keypads.

I am available for any questions you may have or things you need. I have an older miniature pincher rescue and a very friendly cat. I do allow dogs, but not if they like to dig in gardens. Cleaning up after your dog is mandatory to preserve the cleanliness and enjoyment of the garden and yard. Thank you.

Mission Canyon is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Santa Barbara. Take a walk around the neighborhood to see the grand homes that started being built in 1880. Some homes are hidden behind stone walls up long driveways, but many proudly display well cared for gardens and impressive architecture.

It is a 10 minute walk to the Natural History Museum and a 15 minute walk to the Santa Barbara Mission. Rocky Nook Park is also about a 12 minute walk away. It is a 10 minute drive to the beach and 15 minutes to the top of the mountains and 10 minutes to downtown.

Trader Joes, CVS, Gelson’s, Renaud’s premium bakery, sushi and Indian food are a 5 minute drive away. The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is just a 8 minute drive. You are close to everything but feel like you are far out in the country.

There are taxis, Uber, and Lift in Santa Barbara. There is also a bus service. Rental cars are available at the airport and elsewhere in Santa Barbara. Thank you.

This rustic home is an idyllic location to decompress. While somewhat secluded, and just enough off the beaten path to allow you to unwind in peace, it’s also conveniently close to anything you would want or need. Walking distance to the SB Natural History museum and Mission. A short drive to downtown, the beach, zoo, or everything else the area has to offer. Sit in the enclosed front yard in the morning and forget that you’re in a big city, or in the dining room to watch the hummingbirds. Just cannot say enough about the serenity of this place. The home had enough space to allow our party of six adults to spread out and have our own space, yet come together when we wanted. The A/C kept the temp nice the entire time. The outdoor furniture and dining area are great, as is the new deck out front. The hot tub is amazing. The kitchen has all the modern amenities for the most discerning cook, and more ways to make coffee than I could count. And make sure you browse the library. There’s interesting reading for all ages on those shelves. Maya is a generous and engaging host who wants nothing more than for you to enjoy your stay. We called it home for a week, and only wished it had been longer. Would absolutely recommend, and hope to stay again.

We had a wonderful stay at this historic and lovely property. Outside: oak trees that were hundreds of years old casting shade in the lush garden. We loved sitting on the front porch with a glass of wine and conversation. Inside there were many historic artifacts and books giving unique charm. Fully stocked with coffee, eggs, butter, milk, waffle mix, etc. we felt so spoiled. Also love the jacuzzi and piano.

Not only was Maya‘s home clean, perfectly located and incredibly well-stocked with everything we could possible think we might need, she also encouraged us to use and play with all the things in the home. There was a piano, ukulele, gong, board games, dominoes, cards and books. The furniture and beds were comfortable. The home was welcoming and very inviting. Maya was very responsive to my communications, and I even had the pleasure of meeting her and hearing about the history of the home. I would absolutely stay again and will tell all my friends and family about it if they are heading to Santa Barbara.

Had a wonderful short stay for a small reunion with family. Maya’s place was perfect for us to both hang out and see Santa Barbara. The neighborhood is lovely, friendly and great for walking. We liked that it was quiet and away from the bustle of downtown. Thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit with smores, the hot tub and playing games. If you love books, you’ll enjoy her extensive collection of children’s books. The home is well stocked with everything you might need during your stay. We hope to make this an annual retreat!

Spent the weekend at Maya’s property with my family and 2 year old daughter. The house was the perfect size and had a fun yard for my daughter to explore. Lots of extras that were great to have in the house - coffee, s’more stuff, staples in the fridge etc. made our stay easy and enjoyable. Neighborhood is beautiful and quiet. Great for a relaxing weekend! Bonus - Maya had many books in the house, including a large selection of children’s books. My daughter loved it! Thanks for the great stay!

The house and property is very comfortable and enjoyable. Everything is properly stocked. The only downfall was we wanted to stay an extra night as we had family come in a day early to celebrate our son’s wedding, and they wanted almost double the price for the extra night! We ended up putting them in a hotel room because it was way cheaper. Not worth 1250 a night for a Thursday night. It just made it very inconvenient and felt like I was being price gouged.
