About this house rental
Having traveled the world, I appreciate people from all cultures and proclivities. I welcome you, your family, friends and pets to enjoy my family home, which is tastefully curated with art, books and antiques collected for generations. I lovingly tend the 1/2 acre of gardens which you are welcome to explore. One of my greatest joys in life is to offer my piece of paradise to the world.
The county of Santa Barbara has a strict NO PARTIES rule. Max 8 people can gather here.
You will be staying in a farm house built in 1900, which has been consciously updated since 2016. The interiors reflect the bohemian roots of my artistic family. Art work from around the world adorns the walls. Asian carpets cover the original oak floors. There are collections of books in almost every room. A Steinway piano, a six string guitar and a baritone ukelele await being played.
Each bedroom offers beds covered in quality organic cotton or bamboo sheets. There are also ceiling fans, black out curtains, white noise machines, and AppleTvs in each bedroom. The kitchen can accommodate preparations for elaborate meals with all the cooking appliances, bake ware, pans and implements that you may need.
New 8 person Jacuzzi installed in May 2022!
The entire property set up with a mesh ethernet system that provides up to 1 gig mbps on a computer and 400 mbps on a phone, not only in the house but throughout the garden as well, so if you need to work, you can do it inside or outside.
Security cameras watch the parking area and the driveway. There is a Ring doorbell and camera at the back entrance to the house next to the driveway for your security.
***Your safety and privacy are important to me! That being said, this house may not be the best fit for the differently abled. The floors are uneven and the gardens are on the wilder side. Shoes should be worn outside at all times. ***
To enhance your relaxation, I can set up a number of in-home activities and experiences for your party, including massage by skilled professional massage therapists, sound bath, well as babysitting.

This rustic home is an idyllic location to decompress. While somewhat secluded, and just enough off the beaten path to allow you to unwind in peace, it’s also conveniently close to anything you would want or need. Walking distance to the SB Natural History museum and Mission. A short drive to downtown, the beach, zoo, or everything else the area has to offer. Sit in the enclosed front yard in the morning and forget that you’re in a big city, or in the dining room to watch the hummingbirds. Just cannot say enough about the serenity of this place.
The home had enough space to allow our party of six adults to spread out and have our own space, yet come together when we wanted. The A/C kept the temp nice the entire time. The outdoor furniture and dining area are great, as is the new deck out front. The hot tub is amazing. The kitchen has all the modern amenities for the most discerning cook, and more ways to make coffee than I could count. And make sure you browse the library. There’s interesting reading for all ages on those shelves.
Maya is a generous and engaging host who wants nothing more than for you to enjoy your stay. We called it home for a week, and only wished it had been longer. Would absolutely recommend, and hope to stay again.

We had a wonderful stay at this historic and lovely property. Outside: oak trees that were hundreds of years old casting shade in the lush garden. We loved sitting on the front porch with a glass of wine and conversation. Inside there were many historic artifacts and books giving unique charm. Fully stocked with coffee, eggs, butter, milk, waffle mix, etc. we felt so spoiled. Also love the jacuzzi and piano.

Not only was Maya‘s home clean, perfectly located and incredibly well-stocked with everything we could possible think we might need, she also encouraged us to use and play with all the things in the home. There was a piano, ukulele, gong, board games, dominoes, cards and books. The furniture and beds were comfortable. The home was welcoming and very inviting. Maya was very responsive to my communications, and I even had the pleasure of meeting her and hearing about the history of the home. I would absolutely stay again and will tell all my friends and family about it if they are heading to Santa Barbara.

Had a wonderful short stay for a small reunion with family. Maya’s place was perfect for us to both hang out and see Santa Barbara. The neighborhood is lovely, friendly and great for walking. We liked that it was quiet and away from the bustle of downtown. Thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit with smores, the hot tub and playing games. If you love books, you’ll enjoy her extensive collection of children’s books. The home is well stocked with everything you might need during your stay. We hope to make this an annual retreat!

Spent the weekend at Maya’s property with my family and 2 year old daughter. The house was the perfect size and had a fun yard for my daughter to explore. Lots of extras that were great to have in the house - coffee, s’more stuff, staples in the fridge etc. made our stay easy and enjoyable. Neighborhood is beautiful and quiet. Great for a relaxing weekend! Bonus - Maya had many books in the house, including a large selection of children’s books. My daughter loved it! Thanks for the great stay!

We enjoyed the property a second time and were able to explore the Mission and botanical gardens nearby. As always, our kids love the books, games, fire pit and hot tub!

Maya’s place has so much character and is just plain beautiful! My friends and I very much enjoyed staying here while visiting Santa Barbara for a few days!

The house and property is very comfortable and enjoyable. Everything is properly stocked. The only downfall was we wanted to stay an extra night as we had family come in a day early to celebrate our son’s wedding, and they wanted almost double the price for the extra night! We ended up putting them in a hotel room because it was way cheaper. Not worth 1250 a night for a Thursday night. It just made it very inconvenient and felt like I was being price gouged.

This was a fantastic family spot. Location was great, yard was large, plenty of room for the kids to roam. The house was so thoughtfully stocked and the art and decor is so lovely. Well kept hot tub was a bonus, will definitely be back!

Perfect. This home is a step back in time to a Santa Barbara that existed decades ago. It’s beautiful location, live oak trees, books, eclectic furnishings and informality were perfect for us. Very relaxing, peaceful. A great walking or biking locale too. Our host Maia was very welcoming, leaving us to enjoy it as if it were our own home. Everything you might need is there, well organized - we didn’t lack for a single thing. Looking forward to staying there again 👍👍

We very much enjoyed our stay at Maya's home. It is equipped with everything you need (and more!) to have a great time away from home. Maya joined us for breakfast on one of our days there and we had a nice morning learning about the home and its history. The only thing about the house is that you can hear everything through the walls, so it is more suitable for families rather than couples. :)

Traveling with 3 romanticly inclined adult couples we chose this property. We needed private bedrooms with accessible bathrooms and we a bit surprised to discover that the bedrooms were not private, but interconnected...where we ended up needing to pass through another's sleeping quarters to use a bathroom...and one bedroom we utilized required that couple to exit the room entirely onto an outside patio, then enter the main house again to access the common rooms. This was not at all obvious from the property description and would have influenced my decisions about renting. On the positive side this rental was exceptionally well equipped with large hot tub, wonderfully heated 24/7. The firepit in the massive beautifully landscaped garden was so nice in the evenings... and access to many cable channels on TV in every bedroom was a plus. We enjoyed the gas grill bbq...and the friendly home owner was available and interested to help and answer any questions. This property is perfect for families with children. Not so perfect for a romantic getaway for adults.

We loved our stay at Maya’s home. It is on a truly beautiful piece of property and the house itself was comfortable for 7 people. There are so many great areas for conversation and hanging out, in the front and back of the house. It was a bit challenging to get Uber/Lyft here, but it was an easy 15 minute walk to several areas of Santa Barbara with coffee, restaurants and parks. Would definitely come back to stay again!

As a frequent user of VRBO, I go out of my way to identify homes with special features or history. This property has both. It is in a peaceful area of Santa Barbara near the Mission and Botanic Garden. The house is well-apportioned with everything you will need, especially the kitchen. The host was delightful. The surrounding grounds are the best part of this place and are even more spectacular at night.

We loved staying at Maya’s place. It is warm, welcoming, organized, and filled with fun and interesting things! Maya has put a ton of thought into everything, and it shows. It is in a great location (so close to the natural history museum!). I would love to stay again!

This property is large, quiet, and in a very nice neighborhood! The host provides a home away from home with supplies in the kitchen, a cozy fireplace upon arrival, and privacy!

We had a wonderful four days at Maya's incredible home! There were six of us, four 30-somethings and two in our 70's and it worked for all of us. I have stayed in dozens of vacation rentals and this kitchen was by far the best stocked! Every coffee maker imaginable, a Kitchen Aid mixer (!), King Arthur flour, eggs, milk, butter! Maya was easy to work with and visited (inobstrusively) a couple of times to make sure all was well. Thank you, Maya, for a lovely place for our family!

We very much enjoyed our family stay "Under the oaks". The property is in a nice neighborhood and has lots of space inside and out. Very clean and lots of activities (books, games, toys) if needed. Conveniently located both to Santa Barbara activities and UCSB.

Maya's home was the perfect retreat for my family, which ranged from my six-year-old son to my 70-year-old parents, and we all loved the place equally. The home is full of wonderful details and is clearly well cared for and loved. My son was entranced by the extensive children's book collection and was so happy reading at the dining table and on the comfy couches. We loved all the outside space and enjoyed dining al fresco, roasting marshmallows over the fire pit, and exploring the ground's many wonderful nooks. There are so many personal touches that make this an exceptional place to stay. We really appreciated the food available for guests - especially the s'mores fixings and English muffins - and how easy and enjoyable the kitchen was to use. We also appreciated that the home is pet friendly. Our small dog also settled in happily. We all felt welcomed and right at home and could have easily stayed for weeks instead of days. We hope to return soon!

This property had plenty of things for the kids in our group to do: outdoor time, toys, a piano to noodle around on. We were able to prepare three meals a day for our largish group and coffee selections galore for the adults!I would return for sure.

Our family, 3 couples and a baby, enjoyed this property. The owner has thought of many users needs like toys, firewood and s'mores makings. The property is close to hiking, beach, and easy bike roads. Grocery stores close by deliver so it is easy to feel safe and social distance during this pandemic.

We love visiting Santa Barbara. This trip was no exception. We had everything we needed for our group to have a great Thanksgiving dinner. Close to hiking. Great separation of space. The neighborhood is gorgeous and close to the Mission and Rose Garden. Highly recommended! PS we <3 smores

Stunningly beautiful yard with tree swings! The fire pit was so relaxing and Maya was very easy to communicate with!

This property is filled with charm and inviting nooks and crannies to enjoy indoors and out. Our grandchildren loved looking for treasures in the gardens which they returned before we left so other children could enjoy, the kitchen is amazingly well stocked for casual and advanced cooks! It’s a quiet residential area but mere minutes to shops, cafes and the beach. We really needed an escape from the confines PD COVID and this spot gave us a sense of calm and freedom we hadn’t had in months. Wonderful vacay for multigenerational families and for kids of all ages. Did I mention the wonderful Co.lection of modern and classic children’s books!
