The home was comfy, clean, and the location was amazing! Check-in instructions were clear and easy. It was a short walk to town and the walking trail to the headlands. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch and watching the sunset. Overall, it was such an amazing getaway!

This place is a perfect peaceful gem! It was spotless, cozy, and the location couldn’t have been better. We enjoyed being able to walk straight out onto the Headlands Trail, sleeping in comfy beds, cooking nightly in the well appointed kitchen, and relaxing in the hot tub and sauna. We would love to return again.

House could not be in a better location! Because of the setup it is almost like 2 separate units - would be great for 2 families to stay together.

Our family enjoyed this cozy little space at the end of town. The house had plenty of space for all of us and was stocked well with the necessities. We walked out to watch the sunset each day and loved spending time in beautiful Mendocino.

Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Headlands View Home. This home is not on the water, but it was perfect for us because we have a toddler. We wanted room for her to run safely and not have to worry about the oceanside cliffs. You have an unobstructed view to the North of the ocean, prairies of the Mendocino Headlands SP, and Point Cabrillo lighthouse in the distance. At this location you're walking distance (even with a toddler) to downtown, Point Mendocino trail, and Portuguese Beach.
The home was everything we needed it to be and everything worked as it should. It's a cozy place that we were happy to come back to at the end of a long day exploring. This is a historic home (built in 1881 according to the plaque), so it has some historic home traits. Like most homes of it's age, it has had additions that don't necessarily "flow".
There are essentially 2 halves of this house. The South side of the house is the original house and has a large living area with a wood fireplace, fully-stocked kitchen, a private bedroom, and a finished attic with a queen bed on one side and 2 twin beads on the other. From the kitchen, you take 2 steps down and the first bathroom is on your left, and the laundry room is directly in front of you.
The laundry room is a pass-through to the North half of the house. This side has a full bathroom, a dorm kitchen (sink & mini fridge), a living room with a gas fireplace, and a loft with a large bed. Beyond our initial walkthrough, we kept the door to this half of the house shut because we didn't want to worry about our toddler going up and down the stairs to the loft. The view from the living area was spectacular though.
Finally, the house has a large yard with plenty of area for kids to play and explore. There is a scrub pine in the front yard that our toddler loved climbing on. Overall, we were very happy with our stay!

We just love Mendocino and this house was a gem. Well stocked with all sorts of things you would need to stay for a while, didn't feel like a soulless investor rental, felt like a home. Definitely coming back. All the stars!

Our second time at this abode, we love it, the location, the amenities, everything. Very farm-housey.

I would gladly stay at this property once more! It was comfortable, clean, and a super nice location for a stay in Mendocino. All the things people come to Mendocino for were showcased here - the quaint buildings especially. This neighborhood offers great walking and easy access to everything in town and nearby areas.

Nice home, good views and easy access to town services. Check-in time at 4pm is an hour too late and Check-out time at 10 am is an hour too early. All else was fantastic!

A patched-together assemblage of rooms connected by steps & corridors; we started sleeping in the upstairs larger bedroom, but after my wife slipped on the carpeted stairs, she moved to the front bedroom downstairs.
There are lots of amenities in this house, but it would be best for a family with lots of kids. For us older folks who were there for the view and the walks, a place actually facing the headlands would be better. In spite of the name of this house, it is not in the front row of houses facing the headlands; there is only one window in the main living room that faces out obliquely towards the ocean and the headlands. All other windows face other houses and roads. Not what I would have chosen if I had understood the site and the photos better.

Loved staying at the Headlands House! Terrific kitchen with all the gadgets and tools you need to cook well. Walk out your door and there’s the sea and the many beautiful trails. Would stay here again.

Wonderful place - Vacasa SUCKS
I really hate that vacation property management corporations can cross-advertise their stuff on VRBO, since it absolutely goes against the very name of "Vacation Rentals BY OWNER."
Not being able to deal with the owner directly is very difficult when extenuating circumstances arise (and boy, did they arise for me), and Vacasa is really really terrible at customer service.
I had no issues with VRBO and they tried their hardest to help me, but Vacasa was simply MIA and unreachable for a week while I was trying to figure out if I could reschedule or cancel and get my desposit back, due to deaths in the family 2 weeks before the trip was scheduled. Because Vacasa took so long to answer my requests, I ended up having to make arrangements to keep the trip so I wouldn't lose my money. It was really awful to have to deal with crappy customer service during a time of immense grief. I hate Vacasa, and if the real owner ever sees this, I hope they will choose a different property management company.
Everything else about the house was perfect. It's an ideal setup for a multi-family vacation. There's a whole separate studio apartment (with fridge and sink, and full bathroom) that is completely separate from the bigger part of the house.
The only bedroom with a door that closes has only a double bed in it, and there probably isn't room for anything bigger. I found the bed to be too hard. The pillows were great, and ample!
Be careful to duck when you go upstairs to the loft bedrooms - we had someone crack their skull so hard they nearly fainted.
Overall, it's a great place in a great location. I'm up in the air about whether I'll ever give money to Vacasa again.

Gorgeous and relaxing
Couldn’t have asked for a better birthday weekend stay for my husband. The house had everything we needed to make an awesome seafood chowder, the location was perfect for long sunny walks on the seaside and around town and the hot tub was a cherry on top. Would Absolutey stay here again!

Wonderful Mendocino Stay
The location of this house is stunning. It is walking distance to both the ocean and the town. There have been several very nice upgrades to the place that make it very comfortable, and those modern touches along with the rustic charm of the place are a great combination. The hot tub was great (we did not try the sauna) to relax and watch the stars at night.

Perfect nest in Mendocino
My family (husband, 11-year-old daughter, and bulldog) stayed here for an impromptu getaway in Mendocino mid-January 2022. This property is perfect!
It's steps away from the bluffs above the Pacific, with world-class views. We were able to hear the ocean crash from the home, which was a highlight for us.
The kitchen has everything you'll need to cook a complete meal, and even entertain if you choose. The appliances are modern and everything was clean.
The historical home, with its nooks and crannies and darling architecture, provided some fun exploration for our daughter.
We cozied up by the wood-burning stove at night, and woke up to crashing waves and a gorgeous walk in the mornings. The home is within easy walking distance to anything in downtown Mendocino. It was the perfect location for us to have a weekend of rejuvenation and exploration.

Simply the best!
My spouse and myself, and adult children and significant others, had the most wonderful time at this lovely home. We have stayed in many homes in Mendocino, and this is my favorite, 'rustic' as it may be. It is the best location also! I hope to stay here again.

We love the great location of this home so much we came back again this year! The Headkands are right outside and the Village enter is just a few blocks away. We only got in the car to ride The Skunk Train and visit the splint Cabrillo Lighthouse.
The very separate sleeping quarters were a boon with a sometimes cranky baby. We will be back.

We loved this house. It is really a home, with a well equipped kitchen, lots of space to spread out and breathtaking views of the open land around us. The proximity to town is perfect. Excellent place to escape from life. We will be back!

Quiet Mendocino stay
We had a great stay in this home. Appreciated the location, views, spaciousness with visiting family, wood stoves , sauna and hot tub. The house was clean and inviting. We would certainly book again. Airbnb cancelled at the last minute but we were able to rebook thru vacassa

Best place among several
We've stayed at several places along the coast and this Headlands View Home is probably our favorite now. Amazing location is on the edge of a field that you look out on-- so you feel you are close to nature (and you can walk to the sea, so you are)-- yet you can walk a few minutes and get to a coffee shop. The hosts thought of everything, and they even included condiments and spices in the fridge (the only place that had them). There are so many interesting nooks and crannies in this old house that was changed a few times over the decades, and it was a parlor game to try to figure out the archeology of it by looking at the structure of it and different boards on the ceiling. We can tell for example where perhaps 100 years ago there was a staircase that went up from the living room to the floor above the living room (which no longer is a living space but is just an attic). We are still mystified at what decade did the 2nd story get removed? There is a photo that shows it, then other photos that show it missing. Perhaps prior to 1914? Anyways, we love old houses because of the character, and this one is a combination of an old house plus a modern addition. We enjoyed both. The kitchen is modern, don't worry. We loved this place and would come back here in a flash.

So relaxing!
Our family (and dog) stayed at this beautiful historic home on the Mendocino headlands to get away from it all (COVID, the election, 2020 in general). It was November when we stayed and I worried that we would be cold, but the heating systems, wood burning stove and heaters in each bathroom kept the home perfectly warm. The house is very clean. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped. The beds are comfortable. The living room has a view of the headlands - you can see Point Cabrillo lighthouse right from the couch! We hiked, we wandered into town, we ate, we stargazed, and we relaxed. Blissful!

Fantastic family house
Unique location, surrounded by the ocean on three sides. A short walk to town and to the water. The house is perfect for a family with two distinct living areas, each having its own entrance. The house is surrounded by decks and lots of outdoor space.
