We spent 4 nights at Birch Haven in July. It’s in a lovely, quiet, remote location just under 9 miles from Lubec. The cottage is well-equipped and comfortable, surrounded by woods. The pictures are an accurate representation. We enjoyed watching the sunrise from the deck, listening to birds, watching squirrels do their thing. We saw deer as we drove in and out of the home and spotted seals in the harbor. Really loved watching the tides come in and out, and smelling the sea. The tidal range was about 20 ft or so this time of year, quite dramatic!
Birch Haven is conveniently located to Lubec, Eastport, and Campobello Island. We explored all of that and some of the wonderful Cobscook Shores park trails. We had mostly decent weather, warm and sunny during the day, but cool at night. We had some fog our last full day, which we loved, it made for moody, interesting pictures at Quoddy Head State Park and Lighthouse.
It was a very enjoyable break, exploring this part of Maine and Canada. Birch Haven was the perfect place to stay. Jing and Seth checked in with us via text to make sure all was well. I appreciated that.

My fiancee and I had a wonderful stay! The Hosts were very responsive - could not have been better with communication! Their home is on a very quiet, private piece of property with gorgeous water views. Listen to the birds and watch the dramatic tide come and go...perfect spot for some rest and relaxation. Very reasonable drive to 'downtown' Lubec as well as other local destinations: light houses, hikes, beaches, etc. For those who like to cook, the kitchen is well-equipped with spices, dishware and cookware! We would definitely return again and absolutely fell in love with Lubec!

We had a great stay at this property. It was really well stocked, the bed was comfortable, and the deck and view…we didn’t want to leave. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some peace and quiet away from the rat race! Thanks!

Birch Haven was exactly what my husband and I had hoped to find. A beautiful, completely private retreat in the woods on the water. It was very quiet (except for the sounds of nature). The owner was super friendly and responsive. We spent hours on the huge back deck, watching birds, stars, and the tide roll in and out. The house had almost everything we could have needed. We really appreciated the kayaks and muck boots. Beds were super comfortable and it was a pleasant surprise to have access to a piano. Looking forward to coming back some day!

This home was outstanding in ALL aspects. First of all, communication with the host both before we arrived and during our stay was so friendly and heartfelt. She did everything possible to make us feel at home ranging from a welcome gift, to telling us how wonderful it was to spend time on the deck and where to find citronella candles, cushions for the chairs, etc. The kitchen was so well stocked with many appliances, dishes, pots and pans, spices and much food. Jing told us to use any of the food. The view of the water both from the outside and inside large windows was amazing. The beds were comfortable. It was a wonderful time. I highly recommend staying here.

If you want a serene, quiet, real place to stay, this is it. A warm home with plenty of space. It feels “lived in” by the owners but we didn’t mind that. It was very clean. We especially loved being on the water and watching the tide come in and out. The use of two Kayaks was an extra bonus. Would book again!!

We had a wonderful time in Lubec and thoroughly enjoyed the solitude and serenity there! Watching the tide come in and go out and seeing the changes daily was very calming. We enjoyed the bird watching too. The place had everything we needed and was convenient to the Canadian border. We visited Klondike Mtn. and Lily Lake and saw lots of wildlife. Food at Inn on the Wharf was good and the staff were super friendly.

Wow what a view! I highly recommend the town of Lubec it’s one of the most beautiful towns we visited. We loved this rental because of the privacy and the Deck was priceless! We had everything we needed to stay in and it was a short ride to the town. I loved the furniture it was mid-century modern and very comfortable. The wood tables were beautiful! The owner was very responsive and informative! I highly recommend this property!

The view was amazing from the kitchen, dining and living room areas. We watched the shifting tides come in and leave each day to reveal a new look every hour. The birch trees are beautiful around the property. Many birds. The kitchen was well equipped and looks new. The living area was comfortable and appointed with some very nice handmade tables. We enjoyed the piano. We were near many excellent trails and took quite a few. It was only short ride to the Quoddy Head Light house, Lubec and Campobello Island and we enjoyed these locations. There were several good places to eat in Lubec. Jing Huey and Seth left us very complete & helpful details for the house and the area. The house had a number of well thought out details like many hanging hooks, wooden hangers, fun nightlights, plenty of lights, automatic outdoor lights when we returned after dark and more. It was nice and quiet. We really enjoyed our stay at Birchhaven and hope to come again!

The property owners, Seth & Jing-Huey, are excellent to communicate with. We highly recommend this place.

Beautiful corner of the World
This peaceful refuge is just the antidote an urban dweller like me needs to decompress from the pressures of life. It is always quiet and one can just sit back and watch the seasons change. Birch haven was the perfect setting with its water view and simple but well equipped accommodations. It's not the Marriott or any other fancy hotels but who cares? You have what you need here with the minimal environmental footprint. I only wish my stay could have been longer.

Isolated location
House accomodations were quite spartan and not very comfortable. Many nails and screws sticking out of walls throughout home. There is "NO" television reception. Flys and wasps show up daily without doors being open. Missing floor tiles in bathroom and interior walls have numerous patches. Cracks in walls and ceiling throughout house.

Beautiful and Quiet Spot
If you want to be in the woods, have a beautiful view and absolute quiet, and stay in a cozy house, Birch Haven is the place! Everything is exactly as pictured. Lovely hosts who provide very clear and detailed information on the house and things to do in the area, well equipped, 15-20 minutes from many beautiful hiking trails and from town (visit the Lubec Beer Garden, and the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning). Go when the sky is dark and you'll see brilliant stars and the Milky Way. Thank you Jing and Seth for a great experience.

Exceptional hosts + delightful views
This is a great base from which to explore the Cutler Bold Coast, but there is also much to delight the eye at Birch Haven. Naturalists will appreciate the wild flowers and native tree species around the house, and the variety of water and land birds observable from the deck. We love good food so it was great to find a kitchen sufficiently equipped to even prepare chocolate mousse from scratch.

Perfect Maine Getaway!!
We loved everything about this house!! It's the perfect balance between the feeling of a remote location with all the amenities. We saw seal and eagles off the deck. We launched our kayak from the cove and explored South Bay. We also used it as home base for hiking in Cutler and a day trip to Acadia and the Eastport Pirate Festival. Definitely catch sunrise at Quoddy Head Light House, totally worth the early wake up. Lubec is so quaint and my mom loved picking rosehips at Mowry Beach. The perfect Maine getaway! Thank you for sharing your home with us and being amazing hosts!!

Abundant peace and quiet
What a beautiful spot to just sit and gaze out at the water, listening to the sounds of birds. We spent our mornings birdwatching and our evenings cozy in the living room, cooking on the new charcoal grill and in the well-stocked kitchen, and enjoying music on Seth’s great system. Jing was a super-attentive host and the town of Lubec really feels like the end of the earth in the best way. This house is a peaceful retreat that we were lucky to experience!

A quiet, serene, place to relax
The house sits on a private cove and the only sounds you will hear will be your own. The bed was very comfortable, plenty of hot water, excellent Wi-Fi and all the amenities you will need. This was our 8th time coming to Lubec and this house ranks at the top of our favorite rentals. The property owners, Jing & Seth, responded immediately to any questions we had. The town of Lubec looks to be recovering well from the pandemic, which added to our enjoyment. There has been a lot of investment in new hiking trails in the area,, which is our favorite activity. We highly recommend staying at Birch Haven

Birch Haven
If you like to: be deckside on a tributary to the boiling tides of Cobscook bay with an amazing view, watch birds, dig clams, cook a great meal, experience the peace of remote Downeast Maine yet only be a fifteen minute ride away to downtown Lubec, Maine's easternmost town in Sunrise county, kayak, see seals, eagles, and maybe a whale, bike, hike, shop, or dine. This two bedroom, two bath, saltbox home surrounded by white birches is a great basecamp to explore the bold coast. The hostess is very helpful and accomodating. We plan to return to Birch Haven. Thank you for a memorable experience.
