I've stayed in this hotel for years under different owners and managers. The value proposition is fair and it's always pretty clean, but not always quiet. In recent years, the odour of cannabis throughout gives me pause when thinking of staying there again. No microwave again.

The curtains had holes in them and the bathroom was so close to the bed.

I was only visiting Sudbury for a quick two night stay and it was a pleasant experience. Rooms were great. They delivered two bottles of water to the room in the middle of the night, free - that was a nice gesture.

I checked out and forgot a few personal items and I called to get them back and the cleaning crew never put it in the lost and found they claimed it as their own instead .

Found a needle under my pillow when we brought it to the front desk the guy down played it saying it looked like a sewing needle (there was no hole for the thread) and said he would let house keeping know they needed to do a better job. Ther was no offer to switch us rooms, have the bedding changed ( I don't think it had been after theast guests or they would have found the needle under the pillow), didn't offer a discount on the room or any other solution to this problem and acted like I was over reacting for being upset over the situation. Downtown Sudbury isn't exactly the best neighborhood to say the least so any kind of needle was very concerning. Then when we checked out the other guy that was working the next morning didn't ask how our stay was or anything (we stay in a lot of hotels for work and this is always asked everywhere else) And don't even get me started on the smell of weed in the hall. Security guard sits at his desk all night never once did we see or hear him doing rounds on the floors to deal with noise or the weed smell that was clearly from someone smoking it on our floor. Save your money and don't risk your health. Health board has also been notified

Just not the greatest part of town...

Was an ok stay, nothing fancy in this hotel, didn't like that they didn't have an air vent in the washroom, and the blackout curtains were torn. Also if you're a large size person you won't be able to sit on the toilet as it's too close to the wall.

Room was clean and all working condition. Air conditioning was older . Noisey due to it being beside train tracks. Not very safe location , a lot of homeless people living in tents behind the hotel although there is a fence that separates that and security on site

We were not given credit for having to check out a day early. We had a family emergency come up. Even with hotel.com contacting the hotel, we received nothing back. We were very disappointed and probably will not use Hotel.com again.

Avoid this property at all costs. This area of Sudbury is in total decline. What is absolutely the worst part about this stay is that is WAS NOT disclosed that 3 floors of this hotel are being used as Sudbury Hospital overflow. There is no secueity between floors so people are free to come and go to visit their loved ones. I felt very unsafe and our trip was ll bu ruined as it literally felt like we were living in a hospital.

We did like that the property had a restaurant and bar. The food was good and breakfast was very reasonable.

We booked this room as the hotel had a pool. My son was excited for it, and everything we saw said the pool was open till 10pm. Upon arrival at 6pm we were informed it was closed, no further explanation, or info on it opening. There is a restaurant on site so i understand the lack of a free breakfast but this also leads me to think this is why the rooms don’t come with a microwave. Unfortunately as a family of 4 we had looked to save money and eat in but had to travel down to the lobby to use the courtesy one. There also didn’t appear to be any carts to manage luggage or a playpen. Otherwise the room was great, it was clean and quiet just not somewhere I’d recommend for a family.

Overall had a really nice stay. The pool and Sauna were lovely to relax in. The bed was super comfortable and I would recommend,
Now this was not a negative for me but I want to share for anyone travelling with small children that not every room has a bathtub. Mine had a shower curtain and a lip on the ground to keep the water from going everywhere.
So if you are travelling with kids and need a bathtub I would request a room with one as it seems not all the rooms do. There is photos of rooms with bathtubs in the ad so you must be able to get one.
But if you’re only adults, this shouldn’t be a problem for you as it wasn’t for me.

The place is in need if a face lift. Almost all the carpets in the whole building are stained and stinky. The building its self seems run down and beat up. Staff was very very helpful and friendly pool was nice and the restaurant was pretty decent as well. But tent city out back. Be prepared to be asked for cigarettes, change, and god knows what else in the oarking lot. The hotel has a security gaurd on duty. But the poor guys got his hands full im sure!

Clarion hotel itself is beautiful. Our favourite place to stay when we frequently visit Sudbury. The first 2 floors are blocked off because the hospital uses them for patients recovering from surgery or waiting on surgery. This doesn’t impact the hotel in anyway in our opinion. The only downside is the location. It seems to be getting worse each time we come back. The upside of it being a hospital site is that they have 24hr security and when I saw these guys do a fantastic job it is an understatement. The parking lot is always safe when they are on duty. Unfortunately they go whenever the hospital site closes which would me no security in a very sketchy area. I would not feel safe leaving my vehicle there or going outside alone at anytime of day. Unfortunately when the security goes we will have to try and find a new place to stay when visiting which will be hard because the hotel itself is amazing. We always know what we’re getting. Clean, modern and comfortable rooms. The pool is great as well. They have a restaurant that is always delicious. They are very pet friendly and treat our little guy so well while we stay.

This is a really odd property in that several of the floors are being used for overspill from the hospital/long term care. However, the actual hotel rooms (5th and 6th floors, I think) are clean and quiet, the beds comfortable, everything in working order and the price is right for what you get. There's lots of parking and you can easily walk to several really good restaurants like Respect is Burning, La Fromagerie, and the Laughing Buddha. There's also a great (and huge) used bookstore right across the street. It was less than a 10 minute drive to both Dynamic Earth and Science North (which is why we were in Sudbury) and we had a great trip.

This was not the best experience for a hotel. The two gentlemen we dealt with at lobby desk were extremely unfriendly. The room was somewhat clean (carpets still showed signs of pet hair; no tub and shower stall showed signs of mold in corners). Could not charge phone using plugs beside bed as neither worked. According to website, the attached restaurant was to be open on Sunday but it was not which was extremely inconvenient as that was one reason we chose this hotel. Front desk staff should take the few steps to the sign advertising the restaurant and update hours. There is a security on site and two floors of hotel are used for hospital care and encampment in field not far from hotel. Spend the extra dollars to stay at a better hotel.

Checked in after dark, there was security onsite, but with the restaurant closed we had no choice but to venture back out in the dark. The neighbourhood didn't give us a safe feeling to walk, so we ended up driving to grab fast food when we wanted something real. Just a quick overnight so we didn't use many of the facilities, the room was small but clean.

Stayed a couple of nights while travelling to Southern Ontario. Have stayed at the hotel in the past and will stay there again. Staff were friendly, Sudbury is not so big that being centrally located you are close to everything.

Was a bit out of the way from major malls/ department stores, but there was
a major grocery store less than a five min. walk away.

Hotel itself was clean and well priced, but is clearly a little older. Area of downtown Sudbury was very sketchy. Lots of homeless, drunks, and drug use. The hotel has security and that made things a little better. We were traveling with our young child, and had I known what the area was like I would have stayed elsewhere.

The check in process went well. The room was clean and well cared for. We found getting to the property a little difficult mainly because our navigation system didn’t work in Canada.

We did not get a receipt for our 250 deposit a little worried that we wont get that back .

My recent stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing. Aside from the person who handled my check-in, the staff were generally disrespectful, and impolite.
Additionally, 2-3 floors of the hotel are used as a nursing home for a hospital, resulting in a lot of noise. The surrounding area is also extremely unsafe, with a high presence of drug users, and it seems like no one cares about it.
Given these conditions, the price for this hotel is excessively high, especially since it does not include breakfast. I would not recommend staying here at all.
