It’s not a flash place, but they don’t overcharge when events are in town, and for the lack of price-gouging alone, gets 5 stars.
Is a basic room with a fan, shared shower which is fine, toiletries and towel provided.

The stay was nice, just the noise from construction across the road and the music at night.

Near bus terminal because i live countryside often travelled by road

Staff very kind and helpful, property needs some updates.

Excellent location

The bedroom was tiny scarcely enough room for 2 beds.
No hanging space, no bedside lights, no room for two travel bags, no kettle or tea and coffee. worst of all was having the bathroom and toilet in the corridor outside.

The staff were wonderful, helpful and pleasant, however this is a very old building, it is in the middle of a large construction zone which was ongoing noise 24/7 while we were there.Internet was poor at best, often unable to be connected and the TV reception was frightful with times where distortion made viewing impossible. these problems may have been caused by the construction going on next door. I have to admit that I am not a fan of shared bathroom facilities. A plus is that the location is very convenient being walking distance to most of the central city and public transport. Meals were well done, if Portions were a little large for us.

Very central and great staff

Noisy until midnight but good price for Central location and easy commute to the airport.

The Met is handy to the Central Market in Grote Street and an easy walk to the Convention Centre in North Terrace. Staff are friendly and efficient: my dietary restrictions were accommodated and I was helped upstairs with my suitcase.
Since they have live music on Friday and Saturday nights, the mechanical street cleaner starts early each day, and there’s a construction site operating weekdays on the opposite side of Grote Street, it’s worth wearing earplugs at night.

The floor boards were old and made a lot of noises whenever there were people walking nearby or closing their doors. There were people smoking in the veranda just outside my room. The traffic was very noisy from around 6:30am. The bed linen was not very clean. Overall very old and not well maintained.

Definitely one of the worst places I had to stay.. room was freezing and no heat at all.. smelly as. I could continue non stop for ages. Besides all the staff were excellent and polite.
I know what a budget accommodation means and I was expecting a fancy one but… come on. I rarely complain in general but the building in general needs some improvement.

I was disappointed that there was no airconditioner, and no tea/coffee making facilities, all though a little inconvenience having to go down the hall for ablutions I expected this when booking

Property was a bit run down and has seen better days. Showers were good and that if a little bit too hot at times. Property is in a good place - right in the centre of town. Restaurant wss fine but a bit of a limited choice.

As expected.

A handy place to stay for activities around the Central Market area. A little noisy from adjacent building works, no fault of the hotel. Comfortable room with a balcony overlooking Grote Street.

I wish I did better research before booking here. I'm glad I only had 2 nights booked in. The bed was so uncomfortable, not good for your back at all. On night 1, there was construction works making hell of a noise after 11pm as loud as they could be and on night 2 there was that heavy metal music screaming well after 11pm too, both instances making it difficult to sleep. Need soundproof windows or something. Shared bathrooms too which you'd expect from a hostel only, not a hotel too. Very disappointed with this stay to say the least, won't be staying here again. The 4 star review is for food and drinks, I wish I had read reviews properly prior.

Poor of wifi
2.0 / 10.0
Blaring loud rock music playing until around 1am most weekday nights, tiny space heater that could barely heat the whole room, and no working wifi. Just stay in a hostel, it'll be cheaper, cleaner, you'll actually have wifi and quieter.
6.0 / 10.0
Internet connectivity vey poor, no electric jug or cup in the room, or even a small table to sit at.
Location is good there was construction when when were there.
Good inner city location with all the inner city noises.
Good staff.

Dirty and full of dust

If you like old world charm, this might be for you.
The windows didn't stay open. The fly screens left a 2" gap at the bottom.
The entire building is old, everything creaked, floors, doors.
The shared bathroom was very basic
The only parking available was paid street parking, and very hard to find.

A private room for cheap. Awesome.

Although this hotel provides pretty basic accommodation it is excellent value and in a great location. Damien and his team couldn’t be more helpful.
They have a good menu, a fantastic range of beers and a daily happy hour.

I honestly dont know how this has the rating it does. Honestly some of the worst accommodation I have seen years. I do not recommend staying here.

This is a busy pub on a very noisy street. Close to the market if that's what you're after, but hard going if you want to relax.

We booked five nights at the Hotel Metropolitan in Adelaide in early March 2024, with the expectation that there'd be some noise from the bar downstairs but will have some old charm and character. We didn't mind the sound from the bar, but after checking in we realised there was a high-rise being built literally 30cm from our room. We asked right away if we could switch rooms, but the bar staff (who doubled as reception) said all the rooms were taken (which was clearly a lie as the bathrooms were shared and we only saw/heard a couple people). The construction work started at 5:30/6:00am on some mornings. There was no "reception", all the inquiries were handled by the bar, which wasn't always open and they really didn't know anything other than checking people in. When you check in, they give you a phone number of the maintenance guy, but there was no emergency number or anything else if something happened after the bar closed. The construction noise was so bad it was impossible to have a good rest, so we got another accommodation and left after four nights. We understand the construction next door is out of the control of the hotel, but they should've stated that somewhere as we'd never have booked it if that was the case. Also there was no internet in the room. When we asked for a refund for the only final night via Expedia, the hotel responded simply that the party (us) never checked in! That's how clueless they were.

Room was clean but lacked TV, AC and hand wash basin as are common in most older hotels.
4.0 / 10.0
It is an old building located in the heart of town across the street from the Central Market. Conveniently located. Wifi did not work in my room. It’s there but only in certain areas. It’s not a fancy place but value for your money.
