Not enough power outlets. There are a lack of electrical outlets in the room. The bed table in the room had no electrical outlets. i brought my own power-strip in order to plug in both my phone and my computer at the desk.

It was a cool place to stay.

Good and bad. The bed was pretty low quality -- despite the lovely four poster aspect, the mattress was too soft. I have back problems and ended up sleeping on the floor. The water faucet squirted all over the place every time we turned it on, soaking the mirror and counter. We had to request bedding for the pull-out sofa. Once received, the bedding lacked sheets. When I went back to the front desk to let them know, the concierge had walked away and left a phone number. Understandable in such a small hotel, but annoying because now it was late and we had no sheets. One good thing was the small bar/restaurant on the premises. They had a very good jazz trio, and the food was very good, both dinner and the free breakfast in the morning. The hotel was a beautiful building, but they need to work out the kinks.

Such a fun hotel with its mix of modern and school house classic. Great accommodations. Clean. Easy to walk to dining and shopping options.

Unique hotel; spacious halls, comfortable bed, modern bathroom with nice penny tile, nice hardwood floors, so close to Central Park, great Buddha Bowl.

The heat and shower this time was really bad but, we have loved the hotel each time we have stayed in prior to this visit. So still would give 4 stars

Great stay in a cool, converted school.

Had the best night sleep at Hotel Grinnell, during artic blast snow storm. The temperature was -9 with a wind chill of negative -25. The heat wasn't working enough to keep the building warm, but management made sure people that needed it had a space heater. Shower water was hot. Thank goodness the pipes didn't freeze. Love the double head rain fall showerhead. This is my 2nd time staying at this property, and I have already made my next reservation. I would go out of my way to stay at this hotel.

There was no one at the front desk when we arrived. They said they would email the final bill to me, it never came. The breakfast was lame. There are much better options in town. It was expensave for the services we received, The employees were not friendly.

Great service.

Since I haven't been traveling much lately, I wanted to stay someplace nice--and Hotel Grinnell definitely was that. Since they repurposed an old school into a hotel, they used a school theme throughout. Rooms are a wonderful mix of new and old--nice, clean modern styling, but with the wonderful old hardwood floors from days gone by. Other guests made the same comments as I did, "This place is cool!"

Loved the cute hotel walking distance from the school. This is where we have stayed before and definitely best in the town

Everything was great! Very clean. Hallway on the third floor had a strange smell but not terrible. The shower has the new style with half of a door (no curtain) which is nice except the rain shower a hole that sprayed sideways and flooded the floor. The free breakfast was perfect. We were going to go to the restaurant the night before for an appetizer and have nachos but they were $25! Overall a very nice hotel but not sure it's worth the price. It is also strange that no one is at the front desk, you have to call them on the phone. If the price was much lower, I would stay again

What a wonderful place to stay with a small town feel excellent service will come back again

Very charming hotel, converted from a former Junior High School. Retains much of the original wooden and tile flooring, just adds to the overall charm of the place. Staff very helpful and the free breakfast was delicious.

Beautiful hotel and fantastic customer service. My only complaint is the king size bed was uncomfortable. I would have expected a nicer bed

Very nice local hotel in a former school. Room and bathroom were clean and in excellent condition. Price was very reasonable. Only about a 10 min drive from interstate 80. Complimentary breakfast was excellent. My wife and I would stay here again if in the area. 4/5 stars for service because there staff is not always at the front desk and can take a few minutes for staff to arrive when called. However, did not detract from our staff.

Lovely hotel, restored/converted thoughtfully from an old high school. It was clean, safe, great service, and just off of i80. Perfect to break a cross country road trip!

This place was one of the best places I have stayed. The staff was great and we just really enjoyed our time there.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Hotel Grinnell. The school theme throughout was wonderful and reminiscent of our youth. I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff, the great restaurant (Periodic Table) and bar. We attended race weekend and the “shuttle” service was incredible. The hotel owners, happy to say our new found friends, hosted us in their private motor-coach, front row parking at venue, and a weekend experience we will forever cherish. Please do yourself a favor, book your stay at Hotel Grinnell, you’ll be glad you did.

I loved the hotel. The theme, the ambience, all the details, the service. This is going to be a stop in our next road trip in the area. Can’t wait to bring my family. I would not stay anywhere else in Grinell.

Clever conversion from a school building to a hotel.

In the heart of town, this location is great to walk about and is close to the college. The hotel welcomes pets, is close to several parks and has plenty of parking.
The outdoor seating is very nice in mild weather - but could be unbearably hot and sunny seasonally. We were there for a few days in May.
The lovely woman who seems to keep everything in the breakfast area running was wonderfully helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was nice, with hot and cold choices. And coffee is always available in the Periodic Table dining area. Coffee makers are provided in the rooms and there is a small fridge.
We did not sleep well due to the thin, seemingly un-insulated walls and floors. The creaking old wood school room floors are charming to look at but the crinkling wakes a sleeper as one walks to the loo, and the upstairs walkers can sound strikingly loud. We heard thumping and banging at all hours.
The room is spartan - lacking comfortable or enough seating, no rugs to absorb sound or soften the hard floor.
The hand held shower curiously faces into the bathroom so the bather has to squeeze between the flow of water and the wall or the room will flood.
We found the rooms elementary, (pun intended.) Everything you require is there but there are no extra comforts or pleasures.
Finally, the tv was not a smart tv. Sigh.
Grinnell needs a nice hotel and this place has unmet potential. Hoping for improvements over time. Cheers.

Really cool hotel and restaurant and outdoor space with fire pits and games etc.. Enjoyed our stay and hope to return again!!

Stayed here during college visits. We had visited Drake and then traveled to Grinnell to tour the college the next day. This looked like a fun place to stay. The building is really cool - I loved the reuse of the school into a hotel. Lots of fun features throughout that hinted either subtly or directly at the building's former life. The staff were universally great. Friendly and helpful. The room was spacious but otherwise not amazing. Outlets were in weird locations either they were not near the beds, or they were behind them - or on the opposite walls. There were plenty of outlets generally, just not where you needed them. The bathroom was gross - the shower had a lot of hair in it (yuck) and the faucet needed cleaning - significant soap scum or something. There were holes in the sheets. They send a welcome email, but they didn't send it until the day after we left. Lots of helpful text messages, but when I texted back that my stay was a 3 our of 5 and the reasons why, there was no response. Overall I'd probably stay here again given the other options, but it was not a great experience.

I had a pleasant time spending the night at the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Zaine and Nate in the Periodic Table were great! Breakfast burritos and the nice young lady that made them were good stuff as well. Good location as far as walking to everything.
It’s not worth $250 a night. Definitely not $400.
Our shower was missing the shelf. Shampoo and Conditioner were on the floor of the shower. Sheets had stains on them. Appeared to be dried vomit?stains in the carpet on the 3rd floor.

Exceeded our expectations. The total experience was perfect. The room was unique in its décor, quiet, and very comfortable. The bar hotel was awesome. Simply stated, we couldn't have had a better stay. This one is on our list of favorites.
