Wiveliscombe is a small town a few miles west of Taunton with a distinctly rural feel. The hotel is in the centre and has its own car park. The building is old and certainly characterful. Our room was at the back, reached by a bit of a maze of stairs and passages (no lift but not a problem for us) and was clean, warm and well maintained. The bed seemed slightly hard. Both the room and en suite were a good size and the shower worked well. Breakfast was a continental buffet with a reasonable variety of items on offer. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant two nights. Food quality was very good but menu was limited. There is a pub over the road (the Bear) which serves food but we did not try it. I liked the bar which served local ciders and beers. Staff were pleasant and helpful. We rode on the West Somerset (steam) railway, their Bishops Lydeard station is about a quarter of an hour’s easy drive away. The White Hart is a nice alternative to chain hotels in the Taunton area

Advertised as having a restaurant with breakfast included. Not serving food and nowhere local to get a meal. There is a pub over the road but it was rammed and had no tables so went hungry. I arrived down for breakfast at 07:45 and it was still closed. Rooms where in very poor condition

Thought restaurant area was ok...continental breakfast ok but would be nice to have a cooked option. Room below par. Bed small and no mattress topper! Dusty under bed floor. Bathroom window had no blind so a little exposed when light on! Noise outside on saturday night terrible. Didnt sleep.

room 3 was nice and clean and had everything that was needed . The shower could have done with a bit more power but as it is an old place it is understandable. The staff were excellent and friendly and the breakfast was a continental style and was very good indeed.

Nice little hotel located directly in the city. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and in good condition. The parking space is located directly behind the hotel, and has enough room. The only thing is the bar within the hotel and the Pub right across the road. It gets sometimes very loud until the bar and the pub is closing. Also, the family room is located directly above the bar, so you can hear everything there. Could be located better.

The rooms access is not locked as we had people come in banging on doors and shouting and swearing until about 01.30, cannot understand how they got into the rooms area of the building absolutely shocking and didn’t appreciate a few bangs on my door and language

Good location, lovely town, parking a bonus, although there's also lots of free parking in the town as well. Old building, so slightly quirky and old fashioned accommodation but I actually liked that. Clean, superb bed. Room I was in was above road, so it was a bit noisy with deliveries etc the following morning, but again, didn't detract from my stay, personally. Staff were absolutely lovely, including in the bar, and drinks were a sensible price. Breakfast was a continental style one, but very tasty and more than enough to start the day. Overall, very good value for the money, I'd say, especially on a deal like I had from a booking site (very late making a decision, so perhaps they were keen not to have empty rooms?)

The hotel was clean and tidy. The staff were cheerful and helpful. We arrived a little early than the stated checked time. That was no problem. The room was ready and we were allowed to check in. The breakfast was well presented and gave plenty of choice. I would recommend this hotel.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, fantastic property, rooms very spacious and top star beds, massive bath, staff was super friendly, residence was so friendly and welcoming. Would recommend this hotel to anyone and would definitely come back. 5 star from me

Love the small town atmosphere. Area is safe. Coop and pharmacy across thw hotel. Lovely staff so accommodating. Fresh continental breakfast. Not disappointing. We can come back again if we need a short stay accomodation for long trips.

The property was 350 years old so we could forgive the smallness of the room. The bar and dining area were lovely and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. They changed our room as they became aware that my husband would have difficulty walking up the steep and narrow stairs. The food at dinner time was not great and if we did stay again we would not eat there.

Poor hotel on check in told restaurant closed but could eat in sister hotel opposite. Then told main entrance would close early and the way to my room would be via emergency exit. When I returned this entry was up an unlit alleyway Breakfast OK but girl serving not very friendly

Nice clean room. Comfy bed. Dated bathroom. Shower not very powerful. The housekeeping lady (blond lady…not sure of her name) was very friendly, and was more than happy to answer any questions we had. Our only negative point, was the check-in girl did not inform us how to gain access to the hotel after 10pm. Lucky for us, one of the locals was able to guide us in the right direction.

We arrived early ( parking for only 8 cars), but were warmly welcomed and once the room had been checked , we were allowed in, the room was large and light with a view over the town square. There were a few dog hairs in the carpet, but other than that it was clean and well equipped. Breakfast was continental but enjoyable with the staff , again very cheerful and couldn’t do enough to help ( even ran over to the Co-op to get a gluten free item for a guest). So to sum up I would definitely recommend this at for anyone

The staff were very nice but the breakfast was skimpy & looked like they were trying to save money. A box of cornflakes & a bit of something resembling granola, bread, croissants, 2 jars of jam with a little left, yogurts, a few pieces of fruit washed down with weak coffee. If they couldn’t stretch to a cooked breakfast then adding more variety of cereals, ham, cheese, better selection of fruit would have been some improvement. Also suggest providing tong’s to pick up bread & croissants rather than having to use fingers which was unhygienic & off putting. I’ve now read similar reviews but no comments back from the staff so assume they’re not bothered.

A lovely spot and beautiful building. It is so quirky and old. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. I loved the low ceiling in the bathroom. The staff were super friendly, helpful and welcoming. The only feedback I'd give relates to the breakfast which was very limited. I do appreciate it is only a continental breakfast but it really was a tiny selection. The tea pot and lovely china crockery were delightful though as I sipped my tea in the morning!

No lift , 3 flights steep stairs to a room with a grubby bathroom and a kettle that looks liked it had poo over it and curtains that didn't shut Staff was nice and continental breakfast was ok , was nice to have a cup tea. No hot food served on a Sunday evening which isn't mentioned on here b4 you book so had 12 hungery ppl , we ended up using the local Chinese for dinner.... The car park is like a builders yard and photos are misleading in advert.

The White Hart is a nice pub, however staying as a guest was a different experience to having a drink in the bar. A good point was being able to check in earlier than the time advertised of 1530. The room was very cold, the net curtains very dirty & the shower was very marked with black around the tray. No hair dryer or iron in the room.

Homely, welcoming, appropriate, thoughtful. We were looking for a well priced stay in one of England's beautiful provincial towns and that is what we got. Thank you. A treat that is getting rarer due to huge pressures on the hospitality sector. Staff were friendly and accomodating at every level. A happy team.

LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS! No chef = no food! The most basic cold breakfast, to call it a continental breakfast would be a push. Was not told this when booked and the sister pub across the road is so busy you can’t get a table. A remote location to be without a hot supper. Shower had no pressure and was a trickle so took a very long time. A poor experience

We were alittle disappointed, on checking in we were informed that was no chef ,so no food . Carpark was like a building site . Room was basic ,mould in bathroom . But bed comfy . Staff pleasant . . Continental breakfast ok .
