Beautifully decorated to such an high standard and in an incredible building. It is quite clear there are no staff on site when booking - they are always available over the phone and very helpful.

Second stay at the hotel and by coincidence it was the same room.. Much easier to check in this time, the check-in is fully automated so having gone through the process previously this time it wasn’t an issue. The room is comfortable, not overly large but the bed is comfortable you have your own temperature thermostat and it’s clean, so all the major important boxes are ticked. Certainly, would not hesitate to use the hotel again.

really good value, room was very nicely finished and clean. The temperature was too hot and the thermostat didn't seem to make any difference. I struggled to find the WiFi log in details, they were hidden in some other text

Lovely modern spacious room with kitchenette and comfy bed. Parking with electric charger. Located in fabulous quiet back lane right next to ruined abbey and metres from both River and town centre. Hope to stay again. Carpet could do with a shampoo, head board not fixed properly, tv aerial not plugged in - all minor. No reception or dining, but automatic check in easy peasy. Will stay again.

check in was painful as I never received an e mail with the hotel booking number only the Hotels.com itinerary number which didn't work . I had to contact Hotels.com who eventually provided what I asked for after a frustrating interaction with virtual agent . The room was ok but no desk so it meant i had to work on the bed . TV signal was intermittent so could not watch . Towels smelt a bit damp . As a basic a bottle of water in the room would have been good

Very good quality hotel, right in the centre of Abingdon. Rooms are finished to a very high standard.

Great stay! Our queen size room was very appealing, clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the location was walkable to shopping and dining. Would stay there again!

One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had.
Zero service. Poor room layout. Terrible heat/cooling. Lack of tea and water. Terrible sound acoustics from court yard with window open to cool room. The place can only be described as a business hiring out rooms with a bed but nothing else.

Is a very good hotel I stayed in the twin room with view, very spacious, updated and cleaned, is in the town close to restaurants and amenities, private parking and good base to visit around

We stayed at the property while visiting the Abbey Buildings for an event.
I was initially uncertain when I realised that it was a self check in and there weren't any staff, but actually it was fairly straightforward to get in.
The hotel is beautiful, really lovely decor, stylish and clean. The setting is lovely and we had a nice view of the Abbey Gardens.
The free parking and EV charger were great as well.
We would definitely stay again if visiting the area

Unfortunately my room wasn’t made up. There was a security guy who phoned management and I was upgraded to a wow room.
Shame no tea bags and left over bottles in cupboard.

What a disappointment. No soul and a lot of problems for a new hotel. No air conditioning. Broken windows. Decoration showing signs of flooding. As an ex Abingdon resident - this place is a disappointment to the town.

Was easy and convenient

This is a new 'hotel' so cleanliness and care of the property still good. Unfortunately no staff except a night porter so no lovely welcome on arrival. No housekeeping so bed not made up, no change of towels, no replenish of tea, coffee etc so feel they should no be advertising it as a hotel on some sites.
Car park limited and lots of cigarette butt ends on the ground outside the door.
Brilliant location though and facilities in our ground floor good, although would struggle to get anything out of the oven as bedside cabinet right by it. Also, as with a lot of hotels no plug for the hairdryer by the mirror!

A lovely place, would have given it 5 stars but for the internet or lack of!

Perfect location for access to main part of Abingdon and a charming, large room with lots of character, facilities and a great view.

It easy to see and shopping around the place

Great spacious room, comfy bed, good shower and a great location. Only one small complaint is it would have been nice to have had more milk left or provide a small fridge to be able to keep milk for longer than 2 days for those stopping a bit longer.

This property has been beautifully renovated, its fresh and new with an old style charm that just feels so lovely, infact, its so well done in so many respects that it pains me to have to leave some negative feedback but I think they need to fix these things for return business. We had the family room and it was the most dysfunctional space we have ever stayed in which was challenging to say the least. Had a kitchenette that had an oven and cooktop, no microwave and no toaster, when travelling a microwave is what you need. There was no plug for the kitchen sink so very hard to wash dishes, also a dish spounge but no dish cloth to wipe down benches etc. Had a small sitting area, but the only TV was in the bedroom so the sitting area is not used???? Can't open any windows, this is a real issue because they control the heating and it was warmish, would hate to be there if it was extremely hot or extremely cold?? Bathroom was huge but there was only a tiny narrow shelf above the sink to put anything and no where to even hang a hand towel. Your bath towels could only be hung on the heated rack and that was big enough for 3 people. I think if they could fix some of these small things it would make for a much more enjoyable stay. People have complained about the self checkin, it was a bit painful and like anything when you deal with a computer you take out the human factor, like if you are early and your room is ready the human will let you in, the computer doesn't know thi

Beautiful building right in the centre of town with quite a bit of parking . Big comfortable room. Everything was high quality. Only problem was the heat in the room was 28/29 when i came back at midnight and I couldn't operate the thermostat to make a difference.....

To be honest with all of the reviews for the property and the price we paid we expected more. No housekeeping or daily clean was something I did not expect but maybe my fault for not reading the details. Parking was always a fight if you drove around during the day and came back late. Our room stunk of cigarettes and because we were by the hallway, everytime someone walked by, the firedoor would slam shut and wake us up. The 10am checkout time is also a first for me usually most places are 11am?
Room size was very spacious and clean, but those few things were a bit of a let down

Great position, handy to cafes etc. Very clean and comfortable.

I had a fabulous ground floor room overlooking the Abbey gardens. The room was immaculately clean and very comfortable. I had an excellent night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. It had been a very hot day and someone had thoughtfully been in to prepare the room accordingly - the windows had been opened and the blinds pulled down to shield out the sun, for which I was very grateful. My only issue with the hotel was that I didn't see a single member of staff the whole time of my stay. The Reception area remained completely empty and blank from my arrival to departure. My check-in was all done using a machine, whereas I would have preferred a personal welcome and for someone to do the check-in for me, especially as I had trouble using one of the systems and there was no-one to help. I made myself a cup of tea, but needed more milk and there was no-one I could ask to provide this. Eventually, I had to leave the hotel and walk to the supermarket just to buy milk for my tea. As a woman travelling alone, I felt uneasy about the lack of staff at the hotel, particularly as I went to bed. I would have felt a lot safer had I seen hotel staff at the Reception desk, especially in the evening. It all felt a bit odd and unsettling.

The old world charm of being downtown Abngdon

Fabulous place to stay cannot fault the place.

I stayed at the Abbey on 2 separate occasions in the same week so this review will cover both.
The hotel rooms especially on the 2nd night when I had a kitchenette were excellent. It was an exceedingly hot night and they left a fan which was fantastic.
When booking this I didn't overlooked the fact that this hotel is 'unmanned' because I was unaware such things existed. That means there is no bar, no restaurant and no people or atmosphere.
For people used to that I would expect its no problem.
Abingdon is a quiet sedate sort of place with a rich history in the old part of town so its easy to see none of the above would prove a problem to type of people attracted to the town or hotel.
But for me the system doesn't work. On the first night I left my charger in the room and couldn't get it back. I had to email the hotel who contacted housekeeping who said they hadn't found it. That meant that it was probably still in the room but I couldn't get it back.
Systems like the above are great when they work but if they don't it is the individual not the hotel or staff who are impacted. It only works when it works. If for some reason you lost your key or locked yourself out there is no easy remedy.
I'm sure it works for the hotel who don't have to pay staff etc but the risk is all to the customer.
Having said that the rooms were excellent the hotel quiet and as I say the second night the room was fabulous. But I lost something easily retrievable and spoilt my stay.

Stunning location and lovely hotel however I felt really let down.
I appreciate the property is old so air con might not be possible to install but the room was 29.9c when I arrived and the window only opened an inch. It was unbearably hot and as there is no manned reception, I placed a call to the number provided to request a fan. I was told they only had a limited number of fans but they would call through to the housekeeper to see if they were still onsite and could provide one. I heard nothing so called 40mins later after the room temperature reached 30.6, and was told there were rooms on the top floor that were hotter were mine. There was no real assurance that anything would be done for me so I ended up purchasing a fan.
Someone did come to my room later with a fan but I declined it in the hope it could be used by another guest as I had purchased one.
I felt the hotel was unprepared which is surprising as I'm sure this must be a regular occurrence over the summer and no advance warning to prepare guests before arrival

Lovely place to stay. Rooms finished to a high standard. Everything you need is within walking distance. Make sure Expedia have emailed the entrance code. They forgot to send mine. It was sorted promptly by the hotel staff, needless to say after a long drive you dont need the bother.

Possibly the best stay we’ve had in the UK. Clear instructions, stunning hotel, beautiful high-end rooms, perfect cleanliness and ideal location. Honestly can’t fault it - it’s just opened, so I guess the pricing is “introductory”. Grab it while it’s such good value!

All services were exceptionally excellent. Very camping after a very long tiresome day. Thanks so much to management.

Beautifully decorated and pristine. No staff physically, but send a virtual response to queries in minutes.
