very good location, a nice and comfortable little room.
I absolutely recommend it, especially if it’s just for a couple of days.
Just keep in mind that you share toilets and the shower, they are not in the room but that didn’t bother me.
The staff is super friendly and extremely helpful.

It was OK for the price. Centrally located downtown. The reception is very friendly.
Around there are many homeless and drug addicts, but they didnt bother me nor were somehow approaching me.

It's the best you can expect for this hotel accomodation style, the people that work in there are very kind and helpfull
It's on the verge of the tenderloin zone which is not reccomended at all in SF

Location is not bad
This is the first time I booked a place with shared bathroom and rest room probably I shouldn’t have. the reviews on booking.com website weren't bad so I booked it. The first sight of the place shocked me with a shabby locked grille door, narrow, small hallway and dirty carpet, the reception is a tiny window and the room is the same size as the prison cell I visited on Alcatraz trip. When I opened the door to my assigned room, a strong sweat smell greeted me and I told the staff about it and asked for an air refresher and he brought me a fabric spray for the purpose. As a Chinese, I drink boiled water but there is no jug in the room so I asked for one and the staff hurriedly sorted out one coffee maker which he apparently washed hurriedly but still have heavy stains which I tried to wash off in my 5 nights stay but couldn’t get rid of. Apparently the staff tried to make things better for me although they don’t have enough resources of equipment or such. The place is so old and dirty so I feel very uncomfortable and tried not to touch anything. Staff are nice but it can not changed the fact that the place is substandard even by 3rd world country standard. The budget price doesn’t mean such a poor facility is OK.

I loved the location. Not far from Union Square.
Walls are very thin and some guests don’t take into consideration there are other people there (not the hotels fault).

can be noisy

first of all was greeted by the owner, who was so lovely, made me feel very welcome, advised on how to best spend my few days in san francisco, gave me map, advise what to do and where not to go. The room was very clean, quiet and felt warm (in a good way). shared bathroom and toilet were very clean and not too many people sharing with. The hotel was 10 min walk to Union square and just slightly more to the closest train station (there direct train to the airport) so very easy commute.
everything was great

Owners were exceptionally friendly, very helpful and always up for a nice chat.

Luz Hotel is nearby Union Square, in a point that allow you to visit the most common places by walking (anyway there is the bus stop just opposite the hotel). Personally, I visited the city by walking. The staff were amazing! They gave me a map of the city and explained me the places that I could visit! I really appreciated everything!
Everything is fine for me!

Place is really old but still in good maintenance. Rooms and bathrooms are clean. Close to downtown and main connections. Owner and employees are friendly and caring. Price is equal to all the conditions.

I love the location very convenient and easy to get here from SFO Airport by taking BART. Close to Hop On Hop Off Tour Bus and Cable Car Station. Owner is very welcoming and friendly staffs. Reasonable price.
It's an old building so you can hear noises especially from the 2nd floor and bed is noisy.

Nice Staff - helpful and friendly
Neighborhood was very rough - a lot of homeless. You get what you pay for. Small rooms. Stains on the towels and sheets.

The manager was amazing! He helped us park the car and also gave us a map about the most common places in the city. Also in the last day they gave us a little souvenir! Very thoughtful :)
Ir was everything fine for me.

Nice staff.
We found a cockroach in our room and there was a lot of spiderweb in the ceiling.
3.5
Kind staff
No parking. Not the most comfortable bed. No private bathroom.
4.5
Staff is really nice at Luz Hotel. Location is rather central. the hotel is very safe. the area also is safe for my standards, but there is visible poverty on some streets in the area. If that is a problem for you, avoid Ellis and O'Farrell St, and stick to Geary St, for example when taking BART train from airport and getting off at Powell. Little Saigon is very close, and there are several very good cheap Vietnamese restaurants. Bike-sharing bikes can easily be found nearby the Luz Hotel.

location staff and comfort
3.5
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very central location and the bed was clean.
The insulation wasn't great so you could hear everything from the corridor or other rooms. Whilst it was clean, it was very worn and my room didn't look like the photo.
3.5
Good location and very friendly staff
The temperature inside the room/hallway/bathrooms was pretty cold and it was not the cleanest hotel I’ve seen
