About this cabin rental
We have added Hunter's Cabin on the same property as Stockade Lake Cabin (VRBO #760445) is located. This makes the perfect addition to our already popular cabin when you are traveling with friends or family who need their own separate space and yet want to be near to share meals and good times. Perfect in every way.....Hunter's cabin is perfect size; large enough for two adults, yet smaller that the big cabin, and minus the tv, thus less costly to rent. With 480 square feet, it has plenty of room to spread out and enjoy, yet cozy for two. Perfect rustic luxury; new queen bed for a good night's sleep, full bath and kitchen, dining area with large windows to enjoy the views, cozy living area with a freestanding fireplace for those chilly evenings or rainy days which can occur at any time, and yet has electric heat to keep an even temperature of y our choice. Perfect outdoor spaces; A covered porch across the front of cabin so you can sit out in all weather and enjoy watching deer and sometimes wild turkeys and even see Stockade Lake across the highway. There is an open patio area on other side off the kitchen with outdoor BBQ and seating area. And we have built a fire pit for your use with firewood, hot dog forks and cooking grate furnished. Hunter's cabin is brand new, but built to look like it has been here for a long time, and is nestled in among old-growth ponderosa pines which have been here likely 100 years or more. Perfect nest to return to after a day of fishing in lake, walking or biking on the bicycle path, also just across the road, or a sightseeing drive through Custer State Park with the entrance about 1500 ft up the road. Perfect headquarters for all your day trips through the hills to enjoy the endless points of interest, and only about a 20 minute drive to Mt. Rushmore. Perfect for those who truly want to bring a pet with them as they travel, as we allow one large dog or two small to medium sized pets. There is a modest pet fee charged at the time of booking.

Roberta’s cabin is absolutely gorgeous. It’s tucked back in the woods surrounded by beautiful pines. She was very welcoming when we met her during our stay! The cabin is perfectly suited for folks that enjoy some peace in the pines. We enjoyed our time drinking coffee, journaling, and playing mandolin on the front porch. It is the most quaint cabin with a wonderful woodsy feel. I’d highly recommend staying here to anyone looking for a fun little getaway in Custer!

We had the best time! From the moment we arrived Roberta made us feel at home. We had traveled 10 hrs., and it was so nice to have a few things available to snack on when we got there without having to run directly to the store. Double chocolate muffins. How can you go wrong. :) Roberta gave us some insight into things to see and, where it was good to eat. We wouldn't hesitate to go back!

The Hunter's cabin was perfect for our needs. The property location made it so easy to explore Custer State Park, but was also very close to a grocery store in town. The cabin was furnished with every possible convenience and Roberta was very helpful and easy to work with. The setting could not be more beautiful. We woke up daily to birds serenading us. Although we didn't use all of them, this cabin came with a lot of great amenities; for example, it was reassuring to know that we could do laundry if need be.

Hunter's Cabin was the perfect size and location for our stay. It's close to Custer State Park which was a great plus for us. The cabin itself was so nicely put together and it was clear a lot of care goes into making sure the guests have everything they need. Roberta was so kind and the fresh homemade cinnamon rolls were phenomenal! We are already talking about making our way back to this cabin in the future. Thanks for a great stay!

We have now stayed at Hunter’s Cabin twice. It is a wonderful cabin for two people. Everything you need for a vacation near Custer State Park. Roberta does a great job prepping the cabin, responding to inquiries and making check-in seamless. Highly recommend this cabin!

My husband and I stayed at Hunter’s Cabin for 5 nights. The property is comfortable and quiet. The owner thoughtfully prepared the cabin, making it a home away from home. The location was perfect for our adventures in the area. We especially loved the fire pit (with wood provided) and watching deer.

Roberta made our stay very comfortable. She provided everything imaginable. Even bikes and kayaks were made available to us. The cabin was exactly as stated, and we immediately felt at home. She was very kind to provide directions to the property and explained everything we needed to know when we arrived. If we visit the area again, we will hope that Hunter's Cabin is available!

We had everything we needed to make our experience in SD a delightful experience. There were all the essentials that are important. Such as stove, microwave and keurig. The muffins and fruit were a wonderful bonus.

We were blown away by our experience at Hunter's Cabin! The pictures don't do this cute little place justice. It was like having a home away from home. From the fresh fruit and delicious muffins Roberta left for us, to the offered use of kayaks, bikes, firewood and grill, we had everything we needed and more! We wish we would have stayed longer! Our biggest disappointment was we were so busy touring the Black Hills we didn't have the time and energy to kayak Stockade Lake, which was such a beautiful place. We enjoyed the resident bunny, doe and twin fawns. We loved listening to the coyotes and owls as we sat by the fire. We enjoyed the comfy recliner and the table for playing games when we were tired. We found the fully stocked kitchen perfect for making meals. If we needed it, we found it there! If we come back to the Black Hills, we will be sure to come back to Hunter's Cabin! We are on a long trip and pretty sure no other accomodation will top this one!

My husband and I stayed at Hunter's Cabin for 9 days in August. We came to see the area, all the sights, and for the Sturgis rally. We had a wonderful time. The cabin is so precious, cozy, and in an excellent location. So very comfortable and private/quiet. Roberta was an excellent host and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We've definitely stay there again if we return to the area.

Hunter’s Cabin was the perfect location for our South Dakota adventures! We arrived from visiting Devil’s Tower in Wyoming. It was a little over an hour and a half drive. The Cabin is just a few miles east of Custer so we were able to explore Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the 1880s Train in Hill City, Keystone, Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Highway, and of course the town of Custer and Custer State Park, all located within about a 25 miles drive. The cabin sleeps 2, probably wouldn’t be comfortable for more than that as it is just one room plus the bathroom. The cabin had everything we needed! The owner has thought of just about anything someone could need and has it in the cabin! The owner is great and the rumors are true, she leaves you with a plate of delicious muffins to start off your stay! As well as some other goodies. We would definitely stay again!

This was a perfect cabin for 2 people and our dog. Roberta our hostess was very responsive, kind and social but never intrusive. This place is perfectly located to everything. Cabin was very clean and generous amount of products for our stay. There are 6 restaurants nearby that accommodate dogs. We went to Custer Wolfe and Bluebell, both were wonderful. We hope to come again.

My wife and I stayed at Hunter's Cabin on our honeymoon and had an amazing stay. The cabin is perfect for two people, it is cozy yet has a full kitchen and is great for a couple trying to make a getaway. The cabin is located in a great location just outside Custer State Park and near enough to the town of Custer for quick trips into town. The owner is very helpful and easy to get ahold of, and she is more than helpful! Thank you again Roberta!

Hunter’s Cabin is a great cabin for two. Wonderful array of amenities as Roberta has thought of everything needed for travelers. A big plus that she allows a dog. It rained every day during our stay but the cabin was so comfortable that spending more time indoors than planned was just fine. The homemade muffins awaiting us was a great bonus to begin our stay. Definitely recommend staying here.

Very nice cabin. Host (owner) was very nice and gave us lots of info on the cabin before we actually went in. She even provided us with fresh fruit and great home made muffins. Kitchen was well stocked, even had a few snacks and popcorn. We loved Hunter’s Cabin—the location is amazing. Right outside Custer State Park entrance and across the street from Stockade Lake. Deer outside every day. Tucked away from the road enough to be quiet and peaceful. The cabin has everything you could need, and the owner’s hospitality is second to none. She has thought of every detail to provide a wonderful experience, even some fresh fruit and muffins that were delicious. We will be back!

Hunter's Cabin was everything we hoped for, and more! The host, Roberta, is a lovely lady who ensures her guests are properly introduced to the cabin. Her property is absolutely beautiful and wonderfully set near the western entrance to Custer State Park and only 3 miles from Custer (the town). The cabin itself is nicely decorated with great attention to detail! It's also well equipped with anything a traveler would need. It's clean, quiet, comfortable, and easy to access. We look forward to staying there again!

Everything we wanted!
We have been to the Black Hills alot through the years. This rental was amazing. Had everything required to cook if desired, close to town if desired and just true beauty! We could not have asked for a better host...Roberta was amazing. She even had a greeting gift of black cheeries and chocolate! Stockade Lake across the road is simply beautiful to view via hiking or kayaking. Hope to come back again!

Cozy Cabin
Roberta was the very first VRBO host in all our travels who took the time to meet with us face-to-face upon arrival, and accompanied us to the cabin for a brief tour and to answer any questions we had. We loved that. The cabin was very clean and cozy, and was perfect for just my husband and me. The location was convenient to all the sites we wanted to see…Custer State Park (very close), Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devil’s Tower, Wind Cave, etc.
Another “first”…no other host has ever welcomed us with delicious freshly baked muffins, and also left us several food items such as cereal, butter, Sunny-D, sourdough English muffins, sodas, fresh fruits, an assortment of Keurig pods for the coffeemaker, as well as coffee mate & sugar.
I would highly recommend Hunter’s Cabin to others who wish to explore the Custer area. It’s in a very peaceful setting, and we loved watching the deer from our porch in the mornings.
