The setting is beautiful. Secluded with wonderful views. The staff were really friendly and the room was clean and comfortable.
Not much really. After a full day’s walking the food was quality rather than quantity, but having said that it was very tasty. On the other hand we made up for being a bit hungry with a superb breakfast.

Nice hotel in a beautiful part of the countryside. We walked here from our other hotel so arrived through fields and lanes to the hotel.
We had a double room that was a shared bathroom for families but the room was booked for just ourselves. Obviously an old country hotel but the bar and restaurant were good and the food was top notch with staff that were friendly and helpful.

Beautiful old pub in an amazing setting with great walks right out of the door. Lovely food and beer in the restaurant and a great breakfast. Friendly staff. Very comfortable room with lovely views of the fells.

The staff was helpful and nice. They brought tea up to my room when I arrived.
The inn sits right on the river and some lovely countryside.
A soaking tub in bathroom was a great touch. Food was excellent including vegan/GF breakfast.
The room filled with flies when I opened the windows. After somehow killing them all, I kept the windows shut and was just glad it wasn't hotter since the room had no AC.
The room was also right over the kitchen with a VERY loud fan that ran until 11:30PM and began again at 7AM on the dot.
I had to rinse out the bathtub since the first time I went to fill it, there were many hairs floating on the surface of the water.

Charming very rural location next to the village church and the river. The ambiance is of a traditional Cumbrian inn/farmhouse - very cosy, low ceilings, relatively small (but adequate) room size, traditional furniture but comfortable with modern en-suite bathroom. thankfully it has not gone down the over-worn road of contemporary boutique chic redecoration/refurbishment.
Welcoming and helpful staff.
Evening meal was excellent: well cooked and presented, from a distinctive menu that had more interest and variety than just standard pub fare. Breakfast was great, esp. the homemade granola.
Evening meal was served in residents' dining area annex, which felt a bit spartan, but has nice views of the river. (Breakfast was in the main dining area, which is much more cosy.)
We were not given any choice of dinner or breakfast times, but given that we booked on the day of our the stay, this is perhaps not unreasonable.

Third time we have visited here, it says it all I would say. Love the location. Staff were excellent, friendly and efficient and the food was exceptional.
Nothing.

Breakfast and location great
Booking.com charged me £135 for single occupancy. The Kirkstile refunded £31 as they only charge £104. Not impressed with Booking.com.

We were made to feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. Every member of staff we met were really friendly, polite and helpful. The food was lovely and there was a great atmosphere in the bar/restaurant. It was a bank holiday so you would expect to wait longer but the service was great and we didn't wait for anything. The food menu offered something to suit all tastes and the portions were generous and very tasty! The room was lovely and clean and we felt like we had escaped the madness of modern living. Loved everything about our stay.
We liked everything

Beautiful location, great for walking. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The pub itself is a cosy and atmospheric place to spend an evening. Food and beers were great. Room was spacious and comfortable. We loved our stay.
The shower in the room and the soundproofing could have been better.

The restaurant and food was impressive. The waiting staff during the evening meal were really friendly. The location was ideal for walking around loweswater. Room was clean.
On arrival, limited parking spaces. The initial greeting was not ideal, took around 10 minutes for anyone to notice we were waiting to check in (after ringing the advised bells for attention)- multiple staff saw me waiting and didn’t acknowledge me.
Wifi login was provided but wasn’t accessible in the room at all and there was no phone signal- I felt this should’ve been advised at check in. The toilet broke on first use (this was fixed) and the shower was weak and not very warm at all. The popularity and location seem to have a detrimental effect on both staff attitude/availability and the facilities.

Wonderful evening meal, very comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Exceptional location. Kind and friendly staff.
It would have been nice to have a TV in the bedroom but there was one in a small communal lounge upstairs so not a major issue.

Driving away in the morning.
I found the staff apart from Olivia and a chap with brown wavy hair, very hostile. The older man with grey hair, actually put his arms up, as if he was fielding cows, or about to tackle me, when I entered the resturant, as if to say you cannot just walk in here. I was an overnight guest and had already been informed by Olivia , that she had very kindly made me a dinner reservation. I was really taken a back, as I was just wandering in as a lone woman.
Breakfast hostess , with vile blue very long nails was very brusque. I overheard guests at neighbouring tables, whom had stayed a few days, comment on how rude she was and appeared to be in a bad mood. The cooked breakfast served, was off cold at best,( think the temperature you fed your baby, their food). 98 percent of it left. Milk left festering on tables, in a place over-run with flies, I asked for fresh out of the fridge cold milk , I have a severe medical reaction to milk left out of the fridge. I asked for fresh milk, it was presented by blunt blue nail varnish woman, shouting 'Milk fresh out of the fridge' (very sarcastic) but on popping it into the coffee , I knew instantly my request had been ignored, I can taste the issue in milk, again as with the case with the food, it was cast a side. Never mistake a guest for a fool! You really need to respect food allergies with more concern and responsibility. I checked out and had to find breakfast elsewhere ,at further cost to myself.
Pressure of the shower was a dribble. I could have licked myself clean more effectively.
A communal TV and only 2 chairs and a 2 seated sofa , in a common room. (Think bunk house/ hostel set up).
I had a kitchen extractor fan running until 21.20pm and it restarted at 7am. You could hear every word said below the room in the dining room/kitchen, with no TV/radio to drown the sound out. I live very rural, I have no TV and no internet. I expect at 100 pound a night to have had access to both.
