Pictures could never do this camp justice. The location is fantastic and the views are incredible. There is so much to do and so much provided for, it is incredible for a large group. We have been going for a long time and simply love it. Not to mention the house is so filled with history

We returned for a second visit to Camp Massapequa and enjoyed it just as much as we did the first time. We love the history of this home and appreciate all the furnishings and decor that also exist in photos of the property from the early 1900s. The size allows our large extended family group to spread out when we'd like but also to gather for meals and games. The property owner responded quickly to a few maintenance needs that cropped up. We hope to return again to what ends up feeling like summer camp for us!

we were almost glad to have a couple of rainy days. With a fire in the wood-burning stove, the pool table, and lots of inside room for whatever games people wanted to play (many are provided), the house was just cozy. Lots of baking also occurred.

We had a wonderful family reunion at Camp Massapequa! The property easily accommodated all 20 of us, with ample room for group activities, but plenty of nooks and crannies for quiet time as well. We loved all the activities available, and spent hours at the boat house and on the lake. The houses were well appointed with plenty of kitchen supplies and high quality linens. The place is rustic and unpolished, but still felt luxurious. All in all a wonderful stay!

We returned for another summer to celebrate my mother’s 92nd birthday. My family LOVES staying here: the beautiful rooms with views, incredible fully equipped kitchen with walk-in refrigerator, the lakefront with boathouse/sauna and private beach, and the wooded location is a dream. The houses are spotless and well organized. Our favorite experiences are sitting on the deck with breakfast or appetizers and enjoying the lake view! We can’t wait to return!

Spacious, beautiful inside and out, large kitchen and refrigeration spaces make it easy and fun to prepare group meals - it's a wonderful and welcoming place to gather. It feels both magically special and warmly homey at the same time.

The photos posted online don't do this property justice. As soon as we drove up we were impressed by how stunning the views are. We had a small elopement ceremony with some friends and family in the boathouse, which was a perfect backdrop. All the boats, the pool table, and other amenities, as well as hiking and going to great breweries and restaurants in the area kept everyone with all their different interests happy. And Sam is a great host, very responsive and helpful. We definitely will be coming back!

Camp Massapequa is a fabulous property offering everything we were looking for in an Adirondack Retreat. The quiet serenity and amazing views on Lower Saranac Lake were exactly what our family was looking for. The Boat House and beach area offered something for everyone. The great room and kitchen in the main house easily accommodated our large family group of 16. Sam was wonderful to work with. Gave us a tour of the place when we first arrived and provided some great background on this history packed property. Really quite amazing!

This was our second time staying here and we love it. The place has so much character it is simply amazing. There is also a ton of amenities, from an amazing kitchen area and walk in fridge, to lake towels, kayaks, firewood and so much more to mention.
We just love this place. Grab a beer, sit on the poolhouse deck and watch the sunset.

No words can really describe the surprise of the main house's living room, the lovely bedrooms, and the decor. It's like stepping into a different world. But even better are the beautiful lake, the pine trees and rocks, the wildlife and the fresh air. Definitely coming back!

The Best Memories Made!
We were a multigenerational group ranging in age from 5 months to 86 years & coming from Ohio, Texas, & Alaska. Camp Massapequa's rustic old elegance with its interesting history was the perfect setting for our group! The many family mementos & collected items had us constantly wondering about the stories behind them. We had everything we needed to prepare meals for our large group & seat 18 around the large table in the common area for dinners together. The kids enjoyed playing & roasting marshmallows at the beach & all kayaks, canoes, etc. were in frequent use. While we had planned some activities in the area, we ended up venturing off the property very little since no one really wanted to leave. Sam was prompt in responding to questions both as we prepared for our trip & during our stay. We are hoping for a return visit in the future!

Awesome Family Stay
Such a unique and special place. We had an amazing time on our mini-family reunion / birthday / anniversary celebration. The property and location were perfect for kids and adults alike. Wish we could spend the whole summer here!

Saranac Lake Escape
So interesting to stay in such a historical property! We LOVED Saranac Lake. We did not want for anything at the house and the Guest House was a wonderful addition! Sam quickly responded to any questions we had prior to our stay and was equally responsive during out stay. Wonderful hosts.
All of the water equipment was great. We rented a pantoon boat from the marina around the shore from the property and this added even more fun to our stay. Thank you to Sam & Family

Grand Old Dusty Dame
Glorious location with amazing boathouse and views. Lots of nice kayaks, canoe, paddle boat, etc. for use on the lake. (The lake and estate site can be quite windy). The sandy campfire area was delightful for evening bonfires. House must have been spectacular in its prime but is a little worn and weary. A bit of TLC and updating could restore some of its grandeur. It still has a great deal of old Adirondack camp estate ambiance and charm.
Sam could not have been a more responsive or caring host. We were the first guests of the season—and a very heavy pollen season it was—so gazebo and guest room porch had lots of dust and could not be comfortably used. For someone with allergies or asthma, dust could be an issue. Rugs and carpets were also dusty. Kitchen had a few wrinkles that required Sam’s attention but was otherwise very usable and well equipped. (For example, there was no microwave.) As many reviews mention, the walk in cooler was wonderful. The great room/dining room were excellent gathering and dining places. The three bedrooms on the first floor of the main house were quite small compared to the other bedrooms.
Overall, the space was most conducive to large family gatherings and we had a wonderful time!

Amazing trip!
We had an absolutely wonderful time. The property is unique and very impressive. Sam did a great job letting us know where everything is, and the view is spectacular. It's a wonderful spot for big groups, lots of space to stretch out. Can't wait to come back and visit again!

Spectacular weekend
This camp is truly magical! Our large group of family and friends enjoyed a long weekend here and didn't want to leave. It is spacious with room for everyone to spread out, be together or find a quiet spot just for yourself. The bedrooms are large and many have beautiful views of the lake. I love all the furnishings that make this camp truly authentic. The kitchen and cooler were a god-send for us with a large group. Even though it wasn't warm enough to swim, the beach is perfect and we enjoyed several fires there and launching the kayaks for some time on beautiful Lower Saranac Lake. The boathouse an additional bonus with a space to enjoy the lake and all it's beauty. Sam was outstanding to communicate with and was always available to answer my (many) questions and help us in any way! I can not recommend this camp enough!

Perfect Elopement Weekend!
We'd leave six stars on everything if we could! We stayed for our small elopement at the end of the summer. It was ideal for our 20 guests. The place is beautiful and clearly well cared for. Sam was very responsive from booking through our stay. There was lots of space both to be together and for people to pursue different activities (swimming, kayaking, endless rounds of pool, peaceful reading on porches, etc.). The property is well equipped for hosting a group our size, it felt like staying at a friend's camp. Would absolutely recommend, there's lots of talk already about booking for an anniversary.

The Perfect Family Retreat
Massapequa was the perfect fit for our family of 15! Plenty of space for everyone, a dream kitchen with an amazing walk-in refrigerator and a deck with an incredible view of Saranac. The boathouse offered relaxing afternoons, plenty of boats to explore Saranac and a soft sandy beach.
The owner greeted us and gave a detailed tour-very responsive to our needs. We REALLY did not want to leave! We’re already looking forward to returning!

A unique experience back in time
Imagine going back in time as a member or guest of a wealthy family, to their summer “camp” (read: estate). Filled with historic photos, artifacts, documents and books, i dare say we could stay the whole summer and not absorb it all. The main camp and guest house accommodated our entire family of 20 very comfortably. None of us missed the modern conveniences like TV, but rather enjoyed an extensive vinyl collection to rival any classic rock radio station, especially during the couple rainy days we had. Otherwise, we were enjoying the canoes and kayaks, fishing off the dock and swimming off the beach. Memories to last a lifetime, made all the more sweet, by this special, unique family compound! Thank you to the Darring Family!!!

Amazing experience
The property is beside the beautiful lake. With the two houses (main house and guest house) plus the boat house, there was room for everyone. The twelve rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms have been remodeled and are clean. The kitchen and its provisions (including the walk in freezer) was well supplied for us to cook for us. We also loved the fact that there was no TV anywhere but there was wifi and Bluetooth, so it was enough for the adults and the kids to disconnect from technology for a few hours. There were kayaks and paddle boats, life jackets and floating may, which we used everyday. We stayed at the beach for most of the days. The town is a few miles away and there is an Aldi for all our grocery needs. The drive to Lake Placid was short, which was less than ten miles away, and we even walked around the small town of Saranac Lake. Christi met us upon checkin and showed us around the property. She was a text away for any issues. We were always in communication with them from the start of booking. We have nothing but positive feedback from everyone and we are even talking of going back for the holidays for a white Christmas!

Trip of a lifetime
This is more than an old world estate. This is a log home built in, i believe 1906. It has been meticulously kept up and is just filled with history. The property and amenities were all so far beyond our expectations I don't know where to begin. We spent a rainy day in the great room with 15 people and were never on top of each other. We lit fires at night on the beach and watched the sun go down and the starts come up. We bathed in the sun on the poolhouse deck and swam in the lake every chance we got. A dream vacation for me and my family.

ADK Celebration Getaway
Property was as described and exactly what we were looking for. A beach for the young ones, a dock and boat ramp and boat houses for the younger adults and wonderful surroundings for the everyone. Dining room table comfortably fit all the adults. The walk in cooler is a wonderful convenience..
The weather was too nice to make much use of the "monkey house." The back deck was a great site for our cocktail hours and offered great views of the lake and the sunrise and sunsets.
All of us had a great time and can't wait to come back.
Thanks.

Great Family Reunion
This Great Camp was the perfect place for our family reunion. Plenty of room for everyone to get together plus lots of special places for individuals to read or relax. Private secluded property but very close to town. Lots of unexpected "extras": beach toys, fully equipped kitchen, books, games, etc. Property manager was accessible and helpful.
Each of us had a favorite spot: the screened porches, huge front deck with beautiful flowerboxes, the boathouse and dock, comfy chairs by woodstove.
Property is old; some things are quirky or show their age -- likely original to the building. But what an atmosphere.
I grew up in the Adirondacks and knew about the Great Camps. Being able to live in one for a week was a very special experience.

Amazing retreat for large groups!
The pictures of this property don't do it justice- it exceeded our expectations! It is a beautiful, spacious log cabin, well-stocked with everything you need & filled with all kinds of historic treasures! It's very private- your own little haven tucked back in the woods but still close to town. They've done a great job of maintaining the history of the house & adding some modern features.
We had 5 families in our group and never felt crowded- we only left the property to check out the town & visit Lake Placid- other than that we enjoyed the grounds. We used both the main house & guest house- it was nice that the rooms were all similar in size/furnishings (6 king bedrooms & 2 queen rooms, plus other rooms with twin beds & plenty of bathrooms) so no one was short-changed, which often happens when large groups travel together.
The large porches provided great outdoor space. The kitchen was stocked with tons of kitchen supplies (pots, cast iron pans, dishes, silverware & a huge spice rack). The walk in cooler & extra freezer offered plenty of space for the food/beverage storage needed for our large group. We had extra paper products, linens, propane for the grills & fans in every room which was nice. The 2 outdoor fire pits were stocked with wood & kindling, as was the fireplace in the main house. The sandy beach & boathouse were AMAZING! We spent most of our time there- there's plenty of seating, towels, water toys, life jackets & fishing gear to enjoy. The grill & fridge at the boathouse allowed us to relax all day without even walking back to the main house (a short, inclined hike through the woods- you could also drive down and park there).
The owner was very responsive to all of our questions before our arrival. We met with a local property manager who checked us in & gave a tour of the grounds when we arrived. She & the caretaker were available anytime to help with our needs- Travis came by daily to empty trash, re-stock wood & take care of any issues we had- but we hardly knew he was there. There were also a couple of very sweet women came to change our our linens mid-week.
This house couldn't have been better for our group- if we ever head back to the Adirondacks we'd stay here again. We made memories that will last a lifetime and the kids were so entertained that they never even noticed that they survived a week without tv...although they did have WiFi which they put to use at night after wearing themselves out on the water all day ;)
