About this house rental

COME RELAX IN A CLASSIC SANTA BARBARA LOCATION -- GET DRENCHED IN SPANISH ARCHITECTURE, OCEAN VIEWS, COMFORT AND HAPPINESS.
Available for three months to 1 year

This is a gorgeous, supremely livable gem of a house, designed by Santa Barbara’s well-known architect, Jeff Shelton. Spanish Colonial with an attitude. Situated amongst other striking homes in the very walkable/bikeable/runnable Upper Riviera. Built in 2003 but feels like the 1920's. Three bedrooms; 2-½ bath rental in a perfect Santa Barbara setting. The spacious "great room" and master suite are on the second story. Every room has a terrific view of red tiled rooftops to downtown Santa Barbara, to the harbor, ocean and the Channel Islands. The kitchen has top-of-the-line cooking facilities: Wolf 6-burner stove and oven, Viking refrigerator., teak countertops and a huge teak island to prepare food and sit around. Off the kitchen, a TV/family/reading room is outfitted with a comfy L-shaped couch, two club chairs, a wall of books, a 50-inch flat TV (HBO, Netflix, and Amazon....) . The dining table (seats 6-10) and sits in front of a ceiling-to-floor window. A powder room is located close to the great room. Both the dining area and the TV room open onto an awned patio.

The patio is amazing view of City roof-tops, Channel Islands and the ocean. The patio is equipped with a gas BBQ and an L-shaped, very comfortable couch with two armchairs. It is a perfect place to visit with friends, nap, or read the paper.

The master suite (queen) is set away from the public space, across an enclosed wooden bridge. The bedroom consists of a cozy and romantic sleeping alcove (ocean view, queen-sized bed) with a more extensive sitting area . The master bath contains a washer and dryer (one of two in the home), a big tub, and separate shower with sea-glass tiles. In addition there are his and her dressing areas and a closeted commode.

The ground floor has two bedrooms (queen and double) that share a single, full bathroom, a full size washer and dryer and a fully-outfitted kitchenette. This wing can serve as an independent living space, with one bedroom converted into a living room. A separate and alternative entrance, through 8-light French doors, makes this wing a flexible and functional private apt. for guests, or a totally cool space for the teenagers in your life. Open the door separating the wing from the main entrance and it's seamlessly part of the main house. Close the door and use the alternative entrance and it's a private living space. The kitchenette and W/D can be hidden behind thick-woven southwestern drapes. A small patio with orange, lemon and guava trees is just outside the downstairs bedrooms.

A newly built, well appointed Gym, including a Peloton, dumbbells, adjustable bench, squat rack and olympic size barbell, is housed in a room filled with. natural light. Step out onto a sweet patio to relax after the workout. This room also contains a desk, file cabinets and office supplies

Further afield, the El Encanto Hotel is only one and a half blocks away, along a “locals only” pathway that winds through the grounds to the famed dining patio. The historic Riviera Theater, three blocks away, is home of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and a year-round source of foreign and Indie films. Many downtown restaurants have outdoor patios lining State Street. This main road is closed to traffic, a delightful holdover from the time indoor dinning was not popular. The pedestrian-only main road now gives downtown a festive feeling.

Beautiful eclectic furnishings, locally-collected plein-aire paintings and top of the line construction blend with the award-winning architecture to create a peaceful, inspiring and happy place to call home. Dog-friendly, with $500 extra one time fee. Small, fenced dog run. In addition to the house, there is a private and self-contained studio apartment with a separate entrance, a full bath and kitchenette (no oven). This unit is currently rented long-term to a mature professional woman..

The house was warm and inviting. The architecture, endlessly interesting. Everywhere you turned was another well thought out detail and thoughtful design that always invited a constantly moving stream of refreshing air. Our thanks to Rachel for being such a thoughtful and attentive host. We look forward to coming back to our Santa Barbara aerie in the future! A real gem.

First of all, the pictures of this property do not do it justice. The views are spectacular from this home and the neighborhood is as cute as can be (and extremely quiet). It's near the Belmond El Encanto for drinks and dinner and just a hop, skip, and a jump to the Mission and its rose gardens, Upper East, Upper State, and downtown Santa Barbara. We have a couple of friends who are real estate agents who were dying to see the inside of this home because the architect, Jeff Shelton, is quite well known in SB. We also frequently saw people walking by and taking pictures of the home and landscaping (which is spectacular and really fits in with the style of the house). We loved the neighborhood so much that we ended up buying a home just a block away from this place. We will miss our stay here but we won't be far away. Rachel was an incredible host and whoever rents this home out next is really going to love it. Maybe I can still pop up for a drink on that balcony with the breath-taking ocean views!
