About this cabin rental
Things to be aware of:
*From March 31st until October 1st, the fireplace will not be available for use.*
*The suite only has a whirlpool tub with a handheld shower wand. There is no standup/walk-in shower.*
*Construction is occurring at the property behind this one. As a result, you might experience construction noise, particularly during day light hours on weekdays.*
The original settlers' home was ingeniously added on to just four decades ago but retained the feel and integrity of the 1800's. As you enter the foyer paved with D'Hanis tile, a warm sense of history greets you. The bedroom/sitting room is magnificently large, rising to twenty foot ceilings at the peak. A wood burning fireplace provides warmth near the king size iron bed.
Kristin's bath has a long and colorful history. In 1885, the Sheriff of Fredericksburg was the home's original builder and owner, John Walter. An unfortunate fire destroyed the local jail and what better place to house the lawbreakers than the Sheriff's stone barn. Iron bars were added over the windows to prevent early checkout and they remain today. This former barn and jail has limestone walls and a triangular jetted tub for two.
Kristin's large private terrace is anchored by an ancient ivy covered pecan tree and a softly bubbling fountain. Relaxing and inviting for two, it is the perfect space for convivial gatherings. Have your morning coffee or relax with an evening glass of wine here for a memorable and authentic Fredericksburg experience.

Fantastic place to get away!

I love this place. It's spacious and comfortable and super unique.

Convenient

Wonderful B&B that is much larger than it appears on the listing. We happen to have stayed during one of the years last cold snaps so made good use of the fireplace. Location was 2 minutes from the main street and multiple restaurants.

The overall feel of Kristen's was quaint and cozy. The bed however needs to be replaced! My husband is 6'4” and had a hard time getting UP in the bed! The mattress topper is so thick to make up for the sagging mattress that this bed is so high off the ground! Also, I would recommend the leaf blowers not show up at 8:00 on a Saturday morning. This went on for hours. We had several people try to enter our suite because of the confusion of the address and the suite signs. We were glad the door was locked!

A lighted make up mirror would be excellent in the bathroom due to poor lighting otherwise everything else was great!

Been staying in one of the Austin Street Retreat Units for years... never had a problem until this trip. 2nd day there alerted mngmt that the hot water tank needed addressing. Told it was but never had enough hot water to bathe. Mentioned it again at checkout and no apology made or compensation offered.

I assumed when viewing photos of Kristin Suite online that the beautiful courtyard was a common area. I was thrilled to learn upon arrival that the spacious patio with seating and fountain pertains only to Kristin's Suite. An amazing perk. I couldn't wait to get back to my cottage that evening after doing the main street crawl all day to put my feet up at my private hill country outdoor living area and open a bottle of wine.

Kristins Austin Street Retreat is the ultimate GEM of Fredericksburg! My husband doesn't like to vacation, so it was difficult to get him convinced… but walking into this sweet place was an absolute game changer! The bedroom was the biggest we've ever stayed in, with the most comfortable king-sized bed ever. It was summer so we didn't need the fireplace, but it made for completion of charm. The bathroom was beyond romantic… the bathtub y'all! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The kitchen had everything we needed for our coffee. It was small, but we had zero plans to cook so that was fine for us. The A/C was cold and quiet.
The courtyard was paradise. Our trip was short so we didn't get to take advantage of it, but I cannot wait to plan a couples retreat, where we ALL stay at the Austin Street Retreat houses and we can all hang out together in the courtyard. Seriously, this place is the coolest!
As far as location, you can't beat it. This place is located within walking distance of strolling, shopping, wine tasting, & dining. No need to drive at all!
Convince the husband, wife, friend, whoever… book an Austin Street Retreat house & load up in the car…. You are guaranteed a great time!
FIVE STARS, Y'all!

Kristin's is a great property with lots of room and great features. The bathroom is enormous and the bedroom/sitting room has a full sized couch which we always appreciate. The kitchenette is very adequate. The stay would have been great except the property was very musty/moldy smelling, and the carpet smelled of urine. We opened windows and doors briefly, but couldn't leave them open since there were no screens. My husband has been sick with allergy symptoms since our stay. We have stayed in many Gastehaus Schmidt properties over the past 30+ years and have never had one that smelled so bad. Hopefully that will be remedied because the property is great.

Our cottage was very nice and convenient for our 3 day visit to Fredericksburg & Luckenbach. Clean. Good amenities. Well done. We'll definitely be renting again in the future. Steve & Laura

Super cute, great location! would stay again!

The feel of a small cottage. Clean and well supplied with towels and toiletries. The tub was nice but would've preferred more of a shower. Would highly recommend.

We enjoyed our place but 2 things kept us from rating a 5. One was the fact that we were up half the night after calling the police on guests behind us fighting. That was not your fault but it made us very uncomfortable and kept us from resting well. The second was the bathing situation. My friend is handicapped so it was quite difficult for her to bathe. We managed but I wish I had realized how hard it would be for her. Other than that we had a great stay. We loved the fireplace at night.

We enjoyed the accommodations except for the bathtub. We could not get enough hot water to take a bath and the handheld shower did not work. We left a day early because of this. We did report it and a plumber was sent out but the hot water ran out before the bathtub had 6 inches of water in it. I asked for a refund on the last day but have not heard back.

We love Austin street retreat. It is where we stay when we come to Fredericksburg. We love the space and the location. However, this year we did not enjoy it as much. The hot water heater was not working well and it did not produce enough hot water to fill the tub. Each time we used the tub it took over 30 minutes because we would have to let the water heater heat more water. It was very disappointing
4.6
We loved our stay and loved the house. However, when trying to fill the tub, the hot water heater was unable to keep up, so it took several of adding water then waiting. Other than that we loved it.

We stayed in Kristin, and the property is beautiful and cozy. Beautiful living space and bathroom, but the bath only ran hot water for about 1 min before turning cold the entire weekend.

We've been coming to Austin Street Retreat for 24 years, and absolutely LOVE it! We've never had a bad experience w/ any of the rooms there, but Kristin's is our favorite for sure! Thanks again for another great respite and time to re-charge.

Wonderful stay. I told Cynthia a couple maintenance items that are hard to discover without staying there. Here you go: 1. The tub can only be filled to about 60% before it runs out of hot water. Hot Water heater probably needs service 2. The bathroom could use some hooks near the sinks to hang hand and washcloths 3. Patio Door would not latch securely 4. The toilet seat is loose so moves (pinches) sometimes when you sit 5. Water fill of toilet is low. A nice to add would be putting electric extension cord next to each side of the bed in this day and age of electronics. Again we had a lovely stay.

My husband and I rented this little cottage for my birthday weekend. It was private and dreamy! Warm, quiet , clean, Cute, and cozy !! We had a nice weekend exploring the beautiful wineries and cute town of Fredericksburg. But I think the best part was coming back to the cottage for a warm soak in the huge bathtub, pj’s , glass of wine and a beautiful fire in the fireplace! We loved our stay!! There was also a cute courtyard !!!! A little too cold for us this time! But will would definitely recommend Kristen’s place!
