About this house rental
The house sits on top of the Shawangunk Ridge, in the Hamlet of Cragsmoor, looking toward Minnewaska State Park and the Catskill Mountains. It is a 2 story house with the living/dining areas, a sunroom, a bedroom and bath and the kitchen (with washer and dryer) on the 1st floor and one large bedroom with it's own bathroom on the second floor. In addition there is a futon and plenty of room for it on either floor. The house has central heat and a wood stove on the first floor.
Cragsmoor has been home to artists since the late 19th century including, George Inness, Jr, E.L. Henry (who's house is next door) Helen Turner and Charles Curran. Many of its houses and the 100 year old Cragsmoor Library and the Stone Church were designed by Frederick Dellenbaugh, who charted the West with John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt.
Bear Hill, a ten minute walk from the house, and Sam's Point, a 30 minute walk, feature breathtaking views in opposite directions, some of the best rock climbing in the eastern U.S. and many hikes of different levels of difficulty, to waterfalls, natural ice caves, spring fed pools. Both are covered with the famous Shawangunk blueberry bushes, free for the picking.
There are spas, golf courses, antique stores, artists studios nearby. There is hang gliding in warm weather and cross country skiing in cold weather.
There is beauty of every kind, man made and God made. The top of Sam's Point is the only place in the world where Dwarf Pitch Pine trees grow, creating on erie landscape of black pine trucks interspersed with white Birches and endless blueberry bushes. And it smells so good!

We stayed while hiking the area with our 6 and 2 year old. It was perfect, especially the large yard. Hosts were gracious and kind. Made us want to move to Cragsmoor.

The cottage is a real gem. We loved the location, the view, the room layout, and all the lovely antique furniture. We were two couples: my husband and I, my daughter and son-in-law. There was everything we needed. Although we had a bit of rain, the cottage itself was a joy to relax in and there was plenty of room so we didn't get in each other's way. My daughter, who is a lover of historical things, is already planning next years stay here.

As described, older and charming house. Great place to decompress over a long weekend.
Beautiful views from the sun room facing a large backyard. A doe and her fawn visited several times, along with wild turkeys and a curious black cat from the neighborhood.
Amazing vegan options, dog runs and parks. Enjoyed being in a smaller community while close enough to New Paltz and other larger locations.

My family spent a week here. Nice and cozy old house on top of a mountain with great views. Everything in the house is antique including all the furniture. The place could have been cleaned much better before our arrival. Overall good stay

Great Location/Cozy Catskill Weekend
We loved our stay at this charming, vintage Catskill cottage which felt like a step back in time. It was perfectly situated in an adorable historic hamlet near several hiking trails with sweeping views. Ann and Cathi, the caretaker, were both lovely and easy to communicate with. We highly recommend dinner out at the Aroma Thyme Bistro in Ellenville - considered one of the best in the Hudson Valley.

Great place
This is a little gem in Cragsmoor. House is packed with vintage furnitures. It will show up in Pine Bush on google map. Great location. Close to the cragsmoor library, stone church and sam’s point. I give it four stars as this is an old house and there are always things that need to be fixed up. Ie, the flooring. Not a big concern to me though. Overall highly Recommended!

Cradled by nature, a beautiful hideaway. Cozy cottage, very tastefully decorated. Great place to relax and unwind.

Mixed feelings
This place is in a beautiful location. From the pictures we reviewed the impression was rustic and we are ok with that. However rustic should not mean run down. The toilet upstairs required constant plunging to assist in flushing. The floor tiles in the downstairs bathroom were loose, missing grout and the threshold broken. The condition of the floor would make it difficult to keep clean. There was other areas of the home that were also needing repair and maintenance. This place has great potential if the owner would put a little money back into the rental. We would not stay here again.

Spectacular!
The photos don't do it justice. Just a lovely place to stay. Peace and quiet with a view of the mountains and the changing leaves. What more could we want? We thoroughly enjoyed our week here at the house in Cragsmoor.

Beautiful home in a beautiful neighborhood
Our family really enjoyed staying in this lovely home. It’s beautifully appointed and well supplied. The master bedroom is large and comfortable. The front room looks out over the very pretty lawn. We saw so many deer in the area. Some of the nearby homes are really stunning, too. There’s a beautiful church just down the road as well. We had a great stay and definitely would recommend the house to others.

I have been to the area for years nice to be close to all.
Place could have been a little cleaner other than that a joyful time had by all.

What a view
Our stay was amazing! It was warm and cozy and perfectly comfortable for our needs. We did have severe weather the last night of our stay and a suggestion for future guest is you might want to post what to do in case of emergency siren. Maybe a radio station to tune into. We decided to play it safe and spend some time in your basement. All was well in the end:). Thanks again for our time on your lovely mountain top.

Love the fire place and location!
We stayed here right after New Years on one of the coldest / snow-storm winter weekends of the season and were comfy and cozy the whole time. Heat and hot water worked fine and the wood burning stove was so perfect! Kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and the super market was a short drive away. So close to Sam's Point, but due to the intense winter weather, we will have to come back to hike that during the warmer months. Will absolutely come back, quick drive from NYC and super lovely!

Gorgeous area, cozy house.
Lovely house with a lot of character, two cozy bedrooms and lots of common space with great light and comfy, unique furniture. Cragsmoor is a gorgeous, historic hamlet set in the Catskills with hiking and other outdoor activities nearby.

Cozy and quiet
Great stay. House was warm, just rustic enough while still being completely comfortable. Even though the parks were frozen over, we still enjoyed a low-key weekend around the house, playing cards on the table with the woodburning stove going.

Lovely mountain retreat
Ann's home was such a wonderful place to relax and unwind for a long weekend. The cabin is rustic and charming and close to many cute restaurants. The house itself has everything you need for a weekend away. We were happy to get snowed in a little. Easy to get to from NYC and easy to communicate and coordinate with Ann!

True peace and relaxation
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful long weekend at this quaint home. The home is in very good shape, with very nice furnishings and it had to be the most well stocked home we've ever rented on HomeAway or other sites. Linens, towels, toiletries, paper products....more than enough. We spent one of our days entirely inside with a fire going in the wood stove and the relaxing views outside. We got lucky and it snowed the night of our arrival, so we did have the Winter Wonderland we had hoped for. The area is not far from several towns with shopping and dining and we will be back for a longer visit so we can explore the area. The owner was quick to answer questions and the stay was beautifully uneventful. :)

It was a beautiful home, we enjoyed the garden and bbq, and loved that we were so close to great hiking spots. I highly recommend this place!

Very nice stay
Spent two nights in this lovely cottage. It is an older cottage and feels that way, but the master bedroom is quite comfortable, and the heat and hot water work great. The sun room is the best room in the house, in my opinion, offering beautiful backyard views and a great place to cozy up and read. The house is a great base camp for hiking in Minnewaska.

Lovely home
I stayed here for a weekend with my wife and two dogs and we had a great time. We arrived a couple days after a big storm and there was more than a foot of snow but Cathy and Anne were nice enough to clear the snow and offer us a refund as well. The cabin itself was lovely and snow kind of made it even more beautiful.

We stayed for 3 rainy, foggy, nights at the "Retreat". In the mountains these conditions add a romantic mystery to this beautiful area. From the sunroom we enjoyed watching the fog float in and out, hiding everything in its path and uncovering what it leaves behind.
The Retreat is a large, clean, charming, antique furnished and decorated country home with modern conveniences on a large tranquil property.
Sams Point preserve with its myriad of hiking trails and awesome views of the valley, and the beautiful Stone Church are just a 2-3 minute drive away. The cliffs of Sams Point can be seen from the 2nd floor balcony. Ellenville with restaurants and shopping is also a short drive.
We enjoyed our stay very much. A beautiful house in a beautiful convenient area. When visiting this area again, we would definitely stay here.
Note: My GPS could not locate Cragsmoor. We used Pine Bush to get directions.

My friend and I and my lab stayed at this mountain house for 2 nights and we really enjoyed it. The location is perfect to hike sams point in minnewaska and bear hill preserve. The house is old and charming. We loved having our coffee on the back porch in the mornings taking in the mountain view. Thanks Ann!

Anne, I realize this online spot is to 'potential renters'. But I would rather use it as a message directed to you.
We found 'your home, away from home' especially unique! All 6 of us!
If I were to just include my favorite things that are not easily found in upstate rentals, then I wouldn't hesitate to speak of lying in bed looking out the bay window and seeing the stars and a large treetop silhouette against the night sky, every night! Even the silhouetted leaves on the treetop, fluffed like a bad hair day, and waved at us in the breeze. The bed was so comfortable, especially the pillows. To us, your home is cozy up nights, and lullaby sleep!
The wood stove - spread its warmth and aroma to the entire lower area. But let's say if you shut 2 small glass doors and a bedroom door- then an open area of 3 wall-less rooms emerge and become perfect for card games at the table, gabbing by the fire, private talks on the parlor couch, or sitting at the petite desk/chair combo. All of these happened..but so did watching a Gator football game in what I call-the glass room- do you suppose the squirrels watched as humans hooted and hollered and jumped up and down behind all that glass?
Your home has charm and personality nicks as it should! These things were fabulous! They caused my mind to wonder about all the stories this house could tell! These things are a real part of the reason we could 'relax'. So thank you for the extra creak in the floor by the living room, the sliding door that shuts with a crooked lil crack, the unnew, but ultra clean dish towels, the vases tiny and big for all the wild flowers edging the woods out back, clean plain couch covers that DO not have to be smoothed out or pulled back up Yay!, the ole mountain cottage kitchen with every type of utensil or pot pan you may need....the 'gotta-find-my-switch for the bathroom light, the uneven gorgeous walkway out front, the oodles of spices, different soaps, herb garden on the patio, a winding walk to a splendid view, and the painting above your mantle which not by coincidence is found in the quaint 1928, 2 story library, just a hop skip and jump away... Hmmmm
What it must have been like to grow up, here.
"THROWING YOU A DOZEN @->->
@>->> @->>- ROSES"!
Sincerely and thankfully,
Cynthia and Hubbie
and family

We really enjoyed our stay at this cozy cottage. It was the perfect set up for two couples with a bedroom and bathroom on each level. The sunroom is where we spent all our time. We were only there for a few minutes when we saw a turkey strolling through the yard. Although we only cooked breakfast, the kitchen is very well stocked. There is very good hiking within a 5 minute drive. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cottage. Plenty of room, yet cozy and homey. Kitchen was great with many extras too! Master bedroom with sitting areas and bay window to see the stars at night was a special treat. Thank you so much. We will be definitely come back again!!
